Does it matter which faction I play initially? I played through the campaigns with all 3 factions and Haven seems to serve me best (I lose the least with the basic starter deck). Also won a few duels with the Haven starter deck. But I can't seem to beat the 3rd campaign against the Nergal dude in the temple of the spider goddess, because he just buries me under lich spam with pague zombies in front. I almost won once (got him down to 2) but I'm like 0/6 vs him now and I'm beginning to think I need more creatures and to drop those shit 1 costing Xbowmen and normal Sentinels. Should I invest into "The Box" or "The Serious Box" first (since I'm very new to this, I could use any card I can get my hands on really) and continue with Haven, or maybe buy the newer factions' starting packs? Stronghold? Academy? Sanctuary? Also, is Haven competitive/good, cuz all I'm reading is Infernal rush decks here with some minor necro action on the side ![]() Gold I spend on reinforcement packs (does it matter if it's premium or normal?), I get that. Most bang for my buck.

I wouldn't save up for The Serious Box because that'd require a lot of grinding with the starter deck. Buy The Box or two of them to hopefully round out your set of commons and get some uncommons. Use your gold for regular reinforcement packs, don't ever buy premium ones. Also keep in mind with the new wildcard system that Forgotten Wars boxes give 37 wildcards. Although the base set does have the largest number of generally useful cards, you can buy a lot of cards directly with 37 wildcards... Heroic packs are probably worthless these days too. Most heroes suck, and you can just buy the ones you want with wildcards. In other news, I put together a Xorm Gate deck that's kind of fun to play. It's totally reliant on good draws, but sometimes you get to do this to someone: ![]()

Funny enough I went the other way. I got into Hearthstone and am having a blast, then talking to a friend who wasn't in beta, he said he's been enjoying DoC, so I dl-ed that. So far I just unlocked the 3rd part of the campaign, but I'll keep playing both I think. Some comparisons I've noticed so far: HS is so much more intuitive than DoC (casual game will do that), but it's just so much more clear to understand what's going on. There's a lot of stuff in DoC that seems to do multiple things and figuring it out isn't always easy (or possible). Part of the problem could be that I'm playing on iPad, and there's way too much junk going on to fit on a tablet (not to mention selecting cards out of your hand with touchscreen kinda sucks). On the other hand, I think constructed in DoC looks much more fun than HS. The variety really appeals to my theory-crafting / collecting side. But of course, Arena in HS is super fun; I haven't unlocked tournament modes in DoC, but it doesn't sound like they have an Arena variant do they? But DoC is probably too complicated for that to work well. HS needs an achievement screen like DoC though (or like WoW even), I didn't even know you got 100g for beating all the expert AI's until my friend told me... I also wish both games would teach you a bit about deck building. I have no idea what to do in DoC when I get new cards, or when I finally start a new deck. At least HearthStone's not that complicated so it's not as painful a trial by error (although I'm looking up guides/help like this thread! lol).

I'm playing Haven (because the iPad app auto-selected that when I was scrolling through the faction descriptions...). What if I started a DoC arena and it asked me to choose a hero from a list that only included ones from non-Haven? I would have no idea what to do from there. Sure it could restrict it to a faction, but that was part of the fun of Arena, having no idea what class cards you would get (course you get some of that from schools of magic). Anyways, that's one benefit from F2P games, they're going to be stealing the good ideas from each other int he coming months =p. So we'll see how Ubisoft responds. Anyways, I wouldn't mind deckbuilding being a take-your-lumps experience if they at least explained better how to get new heroes (maybe award a 2nd one from the campaign?) to nudge you in the build a new deck experience or gave you any hints to mix in new cards as you gained packs through the campaign. I guess I'm just feeling a little lost getting started. The fact that I had to play two Duels just to unlock the 3rd campaign just underscores how garbage the starting deck is (or that might be Haven again =\). Not to mention how little I know when it comes to tactics, like when to move creatures around the board lol. But DoC has pretty good match-making so it was a pretty decent learning experience, I did go 1-1 against two other players that seemed as lost as I was. (HS has amazing match-making too I should add, at least at the levels I'm playing at).

i think your problem is with the shitty tutorial, and starting with haven is a terrible handicap. a lot of your issues are solved if they simply gave a deck for every faction (like in HS) as you start out

Sad that this is so limited to new accounts, I'm not even lvl 5 yet. I really wish they had done this based on character level. Well, a free box or a 6 days towards my weekly reward + 4 levels worth of game play... not a hard choice really.

Ya, restarting with a box may have made me like this game more than Hearthstone lol. Like a masochist I stuck with Haven and I must have gotten better since I one-shot the campaign with the starting deck (1hp win against Nergal even) and am 5-0 with a flawless victory so far lol. Anyways, heartlxp can you add me to the player's list? Time to get the 30 friends achievement =p. ign: roanranger Edit: So now I'm back to lvl 4 with 1k+ seals. Is it worth it to get a secondBox? Or should I go for one of the expansion boxes? I'm not in a hurry to change factions if that makes a difference.
