Makes me wonder what I missed out on with the older games like baldurs gate, is it as good as people say or is it mainly "nostalgia" speaking.

I will just answer with this: I return to Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale (and Fallout 1 & 2) almost every year. There's a reason people still talk about those and play after so many years. Check them out when you're done with Pillars, you won't regret it.

Honestly, you need to play BG2 to really be able to appreciate it. The characters, the story, the fighting system, the ridiculously overpowered monks and wizards...it's really amazing. I wish I could erase my memory and play it for the first time all over again.

Loved every hours of it. My only complaint would be in fight designs and a lack of "boss fights". I played the game on hard. It was excellent during the first act but then became somewhat too easy with too many: tank, control, aoe fights. For example I loved the final fight, very long very enjoyable (beat it first try though but I had a lot of training after Adra Dragon haha). But if I take the bounties for example... meh. A sequel would benefit a lot from tougher but less numerous enemies. I was also a bit sad to not see more boss fights. Liked the story a lot, found it original and with a good pace always driving me forward to know more. Can't really understand the critics there as far as video games are concerned. It's not PST but it's definitely on the level of BG1. Definitely the kind of game you don't want to reach the end. Now I need a sequel.

Yeah overall BG2 is probably my favorite RPG of all time and best group based RPG for sure. I think there are some ways that single player or player with follower RPGs improved over it, but BG2 was tremendous for its time and was worth revisiting. I think the only other group based RPG I get into that much was possibly Phantasie III which was pretty cool for its time if you had a C64. ![]()

Got into the final fight. + Show Spoiler + Loved the amount of text and the atmosphere leading to Thaos. I was looking at the place, checking every damn corner in stealth mode and the "souls" cleaning the dark was quite cool view. Until of out said darkness came a drake. But well, the fights were easy, so nothing prepared me for how hard the final will actually be. I gey my ass handed to me after 10 minutes. Thaos got "bursted" fast and then did what I was afraid of: went into one of these golems and started kicking everybody in the face. 3 guys insta dead, including my mage and Endurance, so the rest of the fight was hopeless. Didn't try again yet, but today will be the day!

I usually offtank him with a Chanter while my maintank(s) take care of the statues. Spread out your dudes and DPS the statue with less defense. Prepare some Eldritch Potions for when the defenses are too high as Thaos will buff their defense from time to time. I had much more trouble with the Adra Dragon than Thaos. At least until I figured out that the Dragon has no ranged attack and is too fat/slow to be able to catch up to ranged DPS characters...

Use Eder forward sweep and knockout, he should have still all 5 of those spells, to physically control the statutes as you kill Thanos first (my logic is he is the only spell caster and the longer he is alive the longer he buffs things), then focus them down one at a time. Also remember that combat Ai is retarded so keep launching your summoned creatures to get the wrong agro. You should have had by the final fight at least 2 summoning thingies. Or at least the chanter summon things.

1. Why the hell were wodecia and wael giving me the silent treatment? All other gods spoke to me but those two didn't even give me the time of day. 2. How is the Arda dragon even possible? I get one-shotted within the first 3 seconds of the fight. I wound up just doing the stupid quest but I kept a save to give it another spin when I'm bored. 3. How long do I have to travel around with the grieving mother to progress her story? I never used her at all but now I want to go back and do her quest. Apparently she's one of those women who make you wait for months before anything happens. I got no patience for those. 4. How the fuck do I deal with ghosts? I've beaten the game and I still haven't found a reliable way to hurt them. Nothing hits them ever. The only thing I can do is use magic and that shit runs out really quickly.
