has anyone taken the black path for a bad paladin?
is it as good as it sounds?


also it seems like flames of devotion doesn't do anything..

think im gonna start this character over
when he uses flames of devotion it does less damage than when he doesn't lol

Pretty sure min/max is a base requirement for PotD

And PotD is not a base difficulty and the whole game does not need to balanced around it. If you upped the difficulty do what you need to finish it. If it is too hard for you, lower the difficulty.

So far PotD is definitely not min max required but you do need at least a strong build. I'm now at defiance bay and done the first main quest bit there. I've built a good pc and use food buffs quite a lot plus resting bonuses, some of the bigger bandit fights were hard. The shadows and phantoms were super nasty but like everyone here got a lot easier once I worked out how easily Aloth kills them. If I didn't have Eder Id have got absolutely nowhere.

I'd say it's a really good difficulty right now, but will reserve judgement until seen the whole game, it definitely forces you to learn quickly, the early bear cave has a giant bear and two young bears with increased stats, first time I went in with a party of 3 I wiped in 2 sec, couple of goes and did it without a scratch.

Going to start doing some trial of iron runs for laughs when don't feel like the story part. Absolutely no chance of success.

I have really mixed feelings about this... I think Divinity Original Sin had way better combat. Turn-based combat is exactly as tactical, but just less tedious micro managing.

Apart from that, I quite like the atmosphere and graphics etc. The races are very uninspired and I just can't comprehend how "human with fiery head, human with cat's head, human with weird head etc." can possibly qualify as races. I already hated it in Skyrim, and I still hate it here. People really seem to hate making animations for actually different models...

Anyway, I am not really pumped to keep playing. I will probably do it anyway and hope to get hooked.

I don't really like turn based personally, it makes me fall asleep. PoE is too fast for my taste though yes, BG had a somewhat better balance. However putting it on slow feels right.
Either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.

For me divinity was fun but a bit rigid and got repetitive quite quickly. I can see how this could be seen as hectic by comparison. It's quite jarring compared to BG as that used the round system, but I've got used to it and it feels more natural overall.

Torment: Tides of Numenera will be turn based, but they plan on focusing on quality combat encounters rather than large quantities of trash mobs to keep players engaged. You can turn on a bunch of auto pause options in the menus that can make this game much closer to turn based if you want.

I've found playing on slow with a bunch of pauses is the way to go.

We will see if Torment has good combat... the original wasn't exactly known for the combat, let's be honest.

I like the fast speed of pillars, though if I was playing ironman or w/e I would slow it down because it definitely makes it a lot harder.

I just don't like wasting time vs trash.

lol i just reset because the portrait annoyed me to no ends, i was clone aeloth.

Installed some IWD portraits





idk what you mean by too fast combat, you can slow it down and pause at any time.
I even think on hardest difficulties DA:O was much faster because the whole fight was almost always determined in the first 3 seconds, where in this game you often have another "round" after the opening to worry about.

Yeah, me neither at first glance. I'd rather have the BG2 unlimited rest and some tense areas where you can't rest.

Sheesh the Endurance vs Health thing really confused me for a while. I rolled Paladin and picked up Lay on Hands (duh). It recovered "Endurance" so I just assumed that was the name for health in this game.

It wasn't until half way through the church basement in GV that I realize they were different. Not sure how I feel about it, though I'm not far in. Def confusing as fuck to have the character icons turn red like in BG and NOT have that indicate health loss.

The fact we have 2 health bars to manage, an encounter based one and an area based one, is interesting but could end up being annoying in the long run.

Other than that the game is awesome so far.

Managed to clear whole temple, wasn't so bad as the bear - my main character is a mage, so I had to just make sure the enemies didn't teleport and instakill him. Now I'm wondering if I should create a new character at the inn to join my party (currently having only myself and Eder/Edar guy) or just go ahead and hope I will meet some interesting NPC.

Also, need go get back and kill that damn bear.
