Maybe its because I played ALOT of EU3 but similar to the post above, the new graphics are really gonna take some getting used to for me. Right now I really wish they had kept it the same, I hope I won't feel this way for long after release.

It is silly how small things can have such a big impact sometimes. After playing the demo I'm really bothered by some graphical things.

First off the water is really annoying and have these cloud reflections which are pretty to look at for 5 sec but then you start playing and it's just annoying due to that the game pushes you to playing zoomed out, and in western/northern/southern Europe that means water will be on your screen, this gets on my nerves.

Then there's the cloud shadows moving across the terrain but it doesn't even look good because the clouds all look the same pretty much, same size and shapes. They also irritate my eyes, especially combined with the water reflections.

There's also the issue of the fog of war being quite dark, at least for me, when zoomed in the entire screen outside of your country goes dark. When you zoom out it disappears, but then I'm more zoomed out than what I'd like and then you get to see even more of the stupid water and stupid cloud shadows everywhere.

Then there's the font. Not all of us get to have good genetics and have 20/20, and I like to sit back in my chair and relax while playing, and the extremely tiny font while readable is too small for me to feel comfortable playing after about an hour of play while leaned back in my chair. Lowering the resolution doesn't quite work since it makes everything fuzzy/blurry at the borders of corners including the font though this might be my computer/monitors fault, I dunno. It's more playable but still not comfortable for longer play-sessions sitting leaned back in my chair.

Oh and the year is 2013 and there is still no windowed fullscreen!!! This game really really need to have windowed fullscreen for multiplayer when you can't just speed up the game. Why is this feature so seemingly impossibly hard to implement, it seems to me that it ought to be a trivial thing to implement, especially when it's so hugely beneficial to the game as in the case of Paradox games? Very few games have it but you would think it would make the games significantly easier to test for developers so that they would implement it if only for their own benefit.

The actual game on the other hand is really fun. They improved a lot of aspects and the fresh UI makes it feel different to EU3 yet it's still the same old Europa Universalis. I just wish the game was more playable for me personally

Expect UI mods within a week of release

I'm really excited about this game. I've followed Paradox's games for ages. Smartest games out there in multiplayer, i think.

However, i feel paradox is going in the wrong direction. Day 1 DLCs, and a "deluxe" version? If only it was cosmetic only i would be ok with it,or if it was neat thingys like the converter ( honestly i never finished any paradox game, since i get bored after i feel i've "won", and i'm too powerfull to be defeated. Vic being the exception, since i don't conquer i this game, and enjoy politics at home) but a lot of event are not in the base game. This infuriates me.

Events are a core part of Paradox games. This prevented me from buying day one ( a first since HOI2), and wait for a pricedrop on the game plus DLC. Pdox always end up dropping prices dramatically, just be patient.

Yeah, that is pretty much the way i deal with Day 1 DLC on games that i want nowadays. "Oh, you want to milk me for more money with DLC? I guess i'll just wait for half a year and get the complete game for half the price"

On a positive note, i would like to add that i'm SUPER EXCITED ( yes this needed caps) about steam workshop. One click to add or remove mods is awesome.

If you're not familiar with Pdox modding community, or discovered this company with CK2, there are guys with amazing talent following these games. GoT mod was impressive, but the mods on HOI2 and Arsenal of democracy or my favorite, darkest hour were huge. Like really huge. Grab these game for a few bucks if you can by the way, just to try a second world war where France and great Britain are socialist, and initiate with their colonial empire seceding, Germany won world war 1 and is a kingdom, Russia still has a king, with hundreds and hundreds of events with multiple choices, give it a shot.

Playing the demo right now. New trade and production systems are a million times better(probably dont need to play to know that). I'm still not sold on how much the terrain shows through the political map, though. I think CK2's map was much better in that regard.

I've had to play every Paradox game in 1280x720 fullscreen since forever, and as you say even then it's hardly comfortable enough to read. It boggles my mind how they haven't yet realized the UI scale they use in every single game is a massive problem for a lot of people.

Somebody needs to nag at them for like a year like TB did for FOV sliders in first person games.

Been playing the demo as France, very fun but overwhelming.

The map don't bother me, but if it bothers you there is already a map mod out for the demo !

damn I can't wait till the full game is out

Been trying Denmark for 20 years in the demo and then The Papal State, defiantly gonna be the papal state in the full game and create The Kingdom of God !

Trading seems much better than in EU3 and I like how you have to make choices between technology and Ideas.
Conquest is also much more limited with the overextention modifier and the aggressiveness modifier.

I fucking love everything that they changed in the demo. Some of the things are going to be major problems (improving relations and spike stability boosting) but everythings coming up rose's and really looking up for next week.

I cant wrap my brain around the new trade mechanics

so I can only collect trade from trade centers that have one my provinces in their reach. But I can improve my trade power in every trade hub I desire. But what does that bring me? I am confused T_T

While you can only collect income from trade nodes you got a province in, you can still place merchants in other trade node and send trade from them to your node, thus increasing the trade value in your node.

Trade power helps you send more trade value from those other nodes to your node,

Only 2 nodes in the entire game can't forward trade to other nodes and are thus safe from this, those are Venice and a
Antwerpen.

I'm not sure how trade range works exactly, but trying to extract trade out of any node other than the one your capital is located in will be only 50% effective. If you project power in a node it will direct trade to the node downstream where you're collecting trade, or if you project power to a node downstream from the node you're collecting it will just transfer some power back upstream.

So as Ottomans I have one merchant collecting in Constantinople and another in Crimea directing trade towards Constantinople. The one in Crimea directs 1 gold worth of trade to Constantinople which is added to the 6 gold they produce locally. That is reduced by any country trying to move trade downstream themselves(like Venice). And you extract a % of what's left based on the % of power in the node you have.

You can transfer trade like this at multiple nodes in a row. As Portugal, I had trade going from Brazil to the Ivory Coast, where I was competing with some African countries to direct it to the Mauritanian Coast, where Spain and I where directing everything to Seville and competing to extract it(we were both getting about 45%). With all the extra trade being directed to it, Seville was worth ~3x more than any other node in Europe.

Generally, if you have a large % of trade power in one node it's a lot more effective to direct trade towards that node to be extracted rather than extract if upstream at 50% efficiency.

Look at my beautiful Russia, LOOK AT IT !

Really like the diplomatic idea group, so diverse and useful in most situations.
Same with the economic and defensive idea group.

The trade idea group are good for Merchant republics, but less so for others I feel.

and the innovative idea group seems really weak, only -5% tech cost...
