ok so I took every province except for lothian, waited till truce ended, fabricated claim again and took lothian with casus, but I can't actually annex or vassalize scotland and it looks like my game is stuck cuz apparently i need a warscore of 10 to negotiate with scotland, but there are no more armies to fight.


edit: Ok nevermind, apparently I needed to sue for peace with France instead. I took Lothian and now have all of Scotland. How do I make more money and gain more admin power?

The probably have a province you haven't sieged yet. Don't the scots have these weird really small islands?

Edit to your edit:

Admin points you gain through your king, which you can't influence, and through the advisor. You probably can only afford a 1 star advisor.

Money you can make through a variety of ways. More provinces, buildings in provinces, trade are the main ones. Consider building light ships and steering trade towards london to grab all that juicy money.

Taking some from others is also viable. But you don't actually need a lot of money, usually manpower is a far more pressing concern. The main use of gold is hiring mercenaries.

If you have finished the scots of, you might want to take a look at what you have to do to become Great Britain, there should be a decision for that. And you need to think about what you want to do next. Maybe colonisation, maybe trying to gain influence in continental europe or scandinavia?

I need admin technology level of 10 to become GB, I have all the core province requirements. Because of that I hired a +3 admin advisor who costs 10 ducats a month. So my economy isn't doing so hot and I need a lot of admin power to get the technologies.

Admin tech 10 is mostly a function of the date. You can't really get far ahead of your time because tech becomes incredibly expensive if you are. You can sometimes choose to fall behind a bit for something else, though. Basically, that is something that will happen eventually, but not something you can focus on. +3 Advisors are usually not something you can afford most of the time, money is better spend on other things.

What should I be doing after I conquer Scotland? I built some ships to protect trade, but how do I get more merchants? Is there anything else I can do besides going to war? I'm improving relations with papal state, influencing cardinals, etc. If going to war, who should I focus on?

That depends on your goals. France is probably too strong at the moment, and the HRE is usually annoying to deal with. You could go for stuff in Scandinavia.

Alternatively, you could focus on colonizing and dominating the new world.

Basically, you have reached the point where there is not really an obvious path, so you should set some goal, and then work towards accomplishing that. A lot of that is based on ideas, so if you want to trade a lot, you need the merchant ideas. If you want to colonize, you need exploration and expansion. For war, you probably want some military ideas.

scandinavia is a soft target, but generally has poor provinces

castile and portugal are your short-term colonial competition, though they generally are allied with each other so you will want allies to fight them

the low countries might seem tempting - rich provinces and part of the best trade node in the game - but if you attack them the holy roman emperor will defend them

Scandinavia would probably be a good target as long as the nation you're targeting aren't allied with Russia. Until that time (almost) inevitably arrives, they're a pretty good target.

So I managed to vassal three Irish provinces, conquer one, then diplo-annex the rest. I own the entire British Isle but now it seems there's nothing to do. I'm constantly running at a deficit unless I keep my military maintenance at 0. I built some light ships to gain power in Bordeux. I used the rest of the ships to protect trade in London. I'm the papal controller but I don't know what that means. Now I'm just fast forwarding through the game while I wait for ideas to develop. I went for the trade one. I made all Scottish and Irish provinces core, kept my stability up. Tried to build some markets. What else can I do? Just attack Scandinavia?

Check to see whether your military is running over force limits, and whether you have non-infantry mercenaries. At this point as GBR you should be swimming in cash, its a really rich area.

as a rule of thumb you don't want to have advisors at all unless you're making 3d/month, you don't want to have +2s unless you're making 30d/month, and +3s you can think about at 100d/month

Typically Britain gets into the exploration game as the 2nd-3rd idea group so you can start colonizing North America. If its about 1500 the Protestant Reformation might be coming, though if you are papal controller its unlikely your lands will convert to Protestant unless you convert right off the bat

Should I keep my maintenance sliders at a minimum if I'm not at war? What if there's possibility of revolt? Should I disband all of my heavy ships once I conquer the whole British isle?

Personally, I keep all my military maintenance at zero if I'm not at war. If there is a possibility of revolt in specific provinces, just make sure the troops aren't in those. Then if rebels appear, you can put up the slider; wait for a tick or two then wipe them.

edit- As long as you're not over naval forcelimit, the maintenance shouldn't be too high at minimum to worry about. If it still is and you aren't expecting to use them for a decade or so, then feel free to disband them. You may have better naval tech by the time you need ships again. But, if you are planning on making headway into scandinavia soon, then keep hold of them I'd say.

if you take exploration as your 2nd idea group you will probably have to take Iceland from Norway and core it to have the range to do Iceland->Greenland->Canada

As 3rd idea group I think you have enough range to jump from Ireland to Greenland at the very least. A lot of the choice territories in the Carribean will have been taken by Spain/Portugal at that point though.

ok so i just got +50% colonial range, and have fleeting rights with norway, do I colonize greenland first then go from there?

Nvm can't colonize Greenland, Canada is still too far to be colonized. What other technology do I need?

fleeting rights don't give you colonial range anymore. diplotech 7 + 50% colonial range MAY be enough to get from Ireland to Greenland but I can't guarantee it

hmm in COP they changed the diplo ideas so that it doesnt give you colonial range anymore either. I'm wondering what I should go for my 2nd idea. I'm in the middle of coring one of the icelandic provinces.

edit: wait nvm diplo 7 means unlocking the 2nd idea group right? I've done that and none of the idea groups make colonization easier...

No that's administrative tech, diplo tech is the one below that. It's the tech that takes care of upgrading ships, colonial range etc.
