MIND BLOWN

what do you get when you mix 500 loans, completely obscure game mechanics, and possibly the worst government system in the game? A world conquest, I guess (funnily enough, I'm getting the impression that conquering Europe as an Asian tech country will be the easy part compared to what ddrjake just pulled off)

lol
this is amazing :D

What I think is most impressive is how he deals with coalitions, I've learned a lot from how he approaches conquests. I have trouble taking a single country without half the know world denouncing me.

Yeah, DDRJake is pretty awesome. Though he admits that many of the stuff he pulls out is based on exploits.

But I still love him for the Jerusalem blockades the world AAR back from the MEIOU days.

started up a Hansa campaign in 1.5. The AE seems harsher than it was in 1.3 but its still manageable, since early you can vassalize 3-4 province states and its still below 100% warscore.

Having near-permanent 6/6/6 leaders is really nice though

Playing as Muscovy/Russia, how do you deal with all the Tartar/Sunni provinces that you get? I can't convert from sunni to orthodox... and I guess Tartar will eventually become accepted, but I'm still probably going to get a bunch of miscellaneous Altaics eventually (Uzbek, Turkmen, etc.) and of course you can't change culture if the provinces aren't orthodox -_-

I'm basically throwing away all my monarch points right now so that I can fall behind on technology and westernize. It's quite entertaining to have double digits of ideas so early in the game, hehe

This looks fucking sick. Really tempted to buy it ASAP. Never played any of these games but I love strategy games like Risk.

Yes/No?! It looks so deep.

It is fun if you aren't going for world conquest. Never do that, it is utterly boring and you have to mix max every single thing.

There are a bunch of mods that change things you might find annoying. The only thing I feel lacking is a mod that makes buildings build automatically if your monarch points gets above 600.

It's my personal opinion that any conquest oriented game needs diplo and religious as the first three ideas. I tend to go diplo-offensive-religious though some people prefer defensive at the 2nd slot.

Expansion might be something you want to squeeze in as Russia colonization is quite powerful.

It requires Steam. So if you have no problem with that, buy it.

I'd say yes, however you also won't find a really unbiased opinion in this thread.

If you are unsure, i'd suggest watching a few videos or reading a few AAR. Also, be prepared for a rather long learning curve. While EU4 is in my opinion the most accessible a paradox grand strategy has ever been, it still require quite a while to get used to, especially if you are new to the series. The reason for this is the sheer scope and depth of this title. But if this idea sounds fun to you, EU4 is probably something you can greatly enjoy for a long time.

unlike risk, this game is actively trying very hard to prevent you from doing world conquest with its rules.

Ah, I went for expansion first because I guess I got greedy (and wanted to get the free casus belli), and then offensive. I forgot how much religious helped, I'm going to get that next (or maybe diplo).

It's less like Risk and more like roleplaying as a historical nation. Actually, I'd say it's most similar to the civilization series, but on a different scale: there is much more detail, and the game takes place over a set time period.

Don't try to do world conquest. You will probably fail your first couple of times, and going for WC makes the game tedious and gamey as fuck. If you do get the game, start as an easy nation like France, Castille, or Austria for your first game.

It also has the replayability of civ, I think. You can easily log several hundreds of hours in most paradox games, or even thousands.

I've been thinking of getting this too. How complete does this game feel so far compared to EU3+Expansions? Will I miss anything coming from that game?

So far most of the mechanics in EU3 are also in EU4 in some way, you might dislike some mechanics like monarch points, on the other hand the AI is a lot better in this game (And a lot of the really gamey thing is harder to do or doesn't work, but i am pretty sure there is other new gamey stuff around. And it is a lot more pretty.

visited this thread just now,
after some 'eu/ck etc bombarding statements' (LaNague) on civbe, i might as well try this game...
hopefully this is better than sengoku (which i never won even once, very frustrated)

can somebody recommend me what edition/packs should i buy?
im a fan of any 'take-your-time' strategy games like civ, galciv and sengoku....
thanks

For EU4, basically the main thing you need is just the base game. Most of the DLC is pretty useless, and afaik the Conquest of Paradise Addon is only really relevant if you intend to play in the New World OR have a random new world instead of america, which i don't know what to think about.

Taking your time is very much possible in EU, except in multiplayer, since you can always pause the game or reduce gamespeed whenever you wish to.

Only thing I miss from EU3 + expansions is the earlier starting date.
