![]() Are there any tips how to proceed? I am trying to get france into a alliance but they are just not interested in unimportant me (le sigh), same goes for russia who is pretty big as well. poland is tiny, bohemia is tiny, i don't see castille joining me and the ottomans might try something by them selves, but they will surely not do it together with me. Any tricks to get a big chunk of people into a coalition?

Austria has pretty much free land from the start in the weak monarchies of Hungary and Burgundy, so inheriting those are almost a given for them. After this Austia and France are about evenly matched, and the sensible this to do is to pick a side and try to blob in the shadow of that guy. Keep bashing Denmark, and spread out in northern europe to other easy targets, and don't try to mingle with the big players for a few decades - their time will come later. An alliance with Autria should secure your independence anyways. One of the biggest mistakes people make in this game is when they see a clear objective, and focus so hard on getting it done immediately that they don't realize that they are bashing their head against a wall. You can't compete with them right now, so you might as well do other things until you can.

I just had a game as Aragon where Austria was my most important ally for +150 years, helping me destroy France and Castille. Then I got powerful enough to tackle them head on, and went for the throat as soon as I had a good excuse. It did help a lot that I had 135% dicipline, 5.0 morale troops with 4-5 pip generals, but I guess that just shows how important tech and ideas are for taking down such a giant.

Any tricks to get a big chunk of people into a coalition? I don't know how late your game is. Would guess its past 1500 due to the PU-annex timer being 50+ years. My suggestion would be to vassalize Denmark and get Sweden to return cores to them. If Teutonic Order / Livonian Order are still around it wouldn't hurt to vassalize them as well, declare without CB if necessary. I considered playing a Hansa game (ended up going with Genoa instead) - here would be my strategy. Overview: Due to the way trade works, you want to establish high control over the North Sea and the Baltic Sea nodes as both of them feed into your home node of Lubeck. So this means all of Scandinavia, the Baltics, and even Scotland are fair game. Short-term priorities (~first 20 years) - Make at least 2 of your 3 starting provinces contiguous. This means Bremen or Saxe-Lauenburg have gotta go. This shouldn't be too hard, as Hansa really is more like a mid-tier power due to the very high base tax of their provinces. The reason why I don't suggest annexing both is because this will likely make you enter coalition hell. - Ally Austria and ideally France. Since you don't have RMs this can be sort of tough. You can also repeatedly restart until you have a +1 statesman as diplo rep is extremely helpful for getting alliances. Since Holstein represents a buffer between you and Denmark, you have a couple of years before you actually will see a DOW from Denmark. - Bonus, but strongly recommended: vassalization of Pomerania - 15 AE for 3 provinces is about as good of a deal as you're going to get in the HRE, and they are all coastal provinces which gives you important naval forcelimits. If you don't move fast, these guys are going to get eaten by Brandenburg in all likelihood. You will also need them to project power into the Baltic Sea area. Medium-term priorities (first ~100 years) - Vassalization of Denmark. Hopefully Sweden declares independence and beats the shit out of them and takes a bunch of provinces, as then you can vassal Denmark easier and beat Sweden to get cores back. - If you vassalized / integrated Pomerania, go after Teutonic Order, hopefully Poland hasn't eaten them in the meantime. Danzig is an incredibly rich province and you should be able to vassalize them over 2-3 wars. You can then go after Livonians but then Russia might rival you in return. Expanding outside the HRE is ideal as that knocks down your AE - By now you should have burned enough AE to annex some more HRE guys, you want to eventually take out Bremen and Mecklenburg - Take religious ideas unless you want to get wrecked by the Reformation If you have all that (Teutonic Order + Livonian Order as vassal or integrated, Denmark vassal, all provinces contiguous) and can take out Sweden, you can then do whatever you want. Steamroll Norway, vassalize Brandenburg, etc. etc.

On my second try I had peasant rebels instead of patriots. Too bad the 50% chance didn't trigger and made me a Monarchy ![]() (As far as I can see there is no way to change government type from monastic state, correct?)

Around 1480 Poland and Lithuania attacked me from the northwest, and even though they outnumbered me quite a bit I held them off by taking advantage of some alliances, and good positioning using the rivers in Moldavia and Bessarabia for the defense bonus. I started taking provinces from Poland, but then the Mamluks (whatever the hell that is) declared war on me and started besieging my provinces in the east. I sued for peace with Poland and was able to get some ducats out of them, and tried to move my armies back to the east to fight the Mamluks, but I can't get my armies to cross between Constantinople and Izmit. Is it because my ports are being blockaded? If so, I'm screwed because my manpower reserves are totally depleted after my fight with Poland, and I've been really neglecting my navy. So is there any way for me to get my armies from Constantinople to Izmit? If not, anyone have suggestions for how I can salvage the situation? Thanks!

In most of my games you would really only have to move through Crimea and Qara Qoyunlu (or something like that) to go all the way around. If Poland hates you and is blocking you though... yeah I don't know if you have many options

43:00 MIND BLOWN what do you get when you mix 500 loans, completely obscure game mechanics, and possibly the worst government system in the game? A world conquest, I guess (funnily enough, I'm getting the impression that conquering Europe as an Asian tech country will be the easy part compared to what ddrjake just pulled off)
