I am noob.
A fresh start with Castille cause I am a noob. Allied French fast because I thought Big blue blob would save me from everything. Aragon+Austria decide to slap France or vice versa. I was dragged into that fight with the hopes of crushing my bellowed neighbor.
I lost a total of 3-4k MP max in fights and 10k+ manpower to attrition. I don't know how it happened but war is mostly about me besieging Aragon forts and occupying areas that Aragon holds. One war without too much fight depleted my manpower.
Did I do some thing wrong? If I'd keep my army on my soil and send a part of my stack to conquer, it'd be instantly wiped out by superior Aragon army and taking provinces took so long. I couldn't negotiate as the alliance but myself so maybe I should finish the fight early? Since after losing that much MP, I gained absolutely nothing.
How do you manage wars and manpower guys, assuming it is early and you don't have too many ideas yet.

Try to fight on your territory, then siege with small stacks while having a fighting army ready just at your borders to jump in when the enemy tries to engage your sieging stack. Or, if you managed to destroy the enemy army completely, siege everything at once.

The rules for attrition basically are: if you are in enemy territory THEN: you take flat 1%/month If the enemy has fully defensive, you take additional 1%/month if the province is tropical, you take additional 2%/month
if you exceed supply limit (regardless of enemy or your own province) you take fuckload%/month max you can take ever is 5%/month
What you generally want to do, given you have the patience, is capture provinces using the least units possible. Note that once you occupy enemy province, it no longer counts as enemy (so you don't take flat 1% anymore, amongst other things). Ideally, if you know the general location of enemy armies, you want to send 1k man armies to capture unforted provinces. The most important are the provinces closest to forts. Once you clear a path where you won't take attrition (remember, as long as your army is in your own province at the end of the month, it's ok. The only day you take attrition is 1st of every month) move your army next to the desired fort. Depending on where the enemy army is, you might want to position the very minimum needed to siege, or more, but you can leave a large portion of army in attrition-free land while being close enough to reinforce a battle in time if needed.

Trying to minimize your losses by fighting smart and avoiding attrition is fine and dandy, but there is no nation in the game that can fight big wars early on and not deplete it's manpower pool without relying heavily on mercs. Use them for all the dangerous/costly stuff and keep your regular units in reserve for the crucial fights. Only get merc infantry the rest is way too expensive. Unlike regular troops mercs only cost money which you can demand in peace deals and even get through loans if necessary and losing them gives no war exhaustion.

"- Liberty desire from development on vassals & marches is no longer just fixed values, but instead +0.25 per development." also gave me a bit of trouble. played a bit with 1.19 beta last view weeks.

You can play on the previous patch and migrate after the game is done. Think saves always break when they add more provinces. Doesn't seem that hard to fix though, ID=X, owner = NOR, migrate and ID Y also has owner = NOR. Or is it something else breaking them?
Maybe things like the combat width change in a current battle or ongoing wars with removed causes belli. Lots of stuff that could break I guess.

Do they get unique ideas or just areas with free cores? edit, starting game to check.
Nice they fixed The Great Khan text, assume nothing changed in the actual script check and they just added a new country tag.
edit 2. Seems you can't see it when starting as Great Horde. Assume it is the bottom one in the ideas file which doesn't feel super interesting. Edit 3, no that is Odoyev. So GLH it is, core creation, manpower etc. Seems slightly better than normal steppe horde.

Cool. maybe I should try playing some hordes. I usually dislike playing hordes. Not conquesting hard/fast enough so my horde unity is super low and then its rebels. rebels everywhere. Only somewhat successful horde game was my Manchu -> Qing game. edit: Oh wait. I can exchange Mil. Power for Horde unity now. That might make things more pleasant for me.
Currently playing Sweden trying to get Lion of the North and maybe going for Fanatic Collectivist, if I win the league war.
Time is kinda running out, so I need to declare soon. Will be a close one. I am hoping either the ottos or russia join protestant, that should give me the upper hand. edit: Sweden game also still on 1.19 beta patch. Will update after that is done.

its a really difficult achievement if you think its gonna be close, Ottomans rarely join protestant anymore ive noticed, and you really need France/Castile(Spain) to be on your side to hope to beat Austria honestly

How the fuck are you supposed to not die as golden horde? you can maybe 1/2 of the time ally timurids before kazan which stops kazan from getting an alliance but not dying to muscovy is horse shit

Calling arb or some other eu4 expert - what should I do next?
Here is my country:
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/C2Ygqle.jpg)
Update: Just beat Bohemia, gonna take a few more provinces from them. Having Poland as ally crushed this war without using much manpower.
Choice #1 - Keep pursuing these small HRE provinces, finish off Bohemia, take East Frisia / Brunswick and the other small nations around me
Choice #2 - Try to engage Denmark (who is currently exhausted from its war with Sweden), who has France as its ally. I can't do much against France, but I am able to call Austria + Poland (and its Lithuania) as allies in this war
Choice #3 - Break off alliance with Poland, and try to gather allies to attack Poland (which will be hard) because Poland occupies 1 province that I need to form Prussia
Burgundy keeps bothering me although it's too far away for me to start a war. It keeps allied with my targets around me and tries to interfere. Anyway, what's the best course of action to take right now? I can't attack Pomerania because it is allied to Austria and other big countries

if you can get elected emperor you can vassal feed and blob really hard tbh, dont swap religion or country till you get optimal size though
usually vassalizing pomerania then either brunswick or anhalt is a good way to feed without having to core by yourself but you gotta be emperor to vassal feed or else they will accept unlawful territory and youll be super sad

I am so angry right now. Went for one faith as Spain (but also wanted to do other Spanish achievments). Everything was going smooth, untill i swear i just looked other way for like a few years (was fighting Mali, Pasai, Cuzco, Aztecs etc.) and Austria is loosing League war like -80% and fully occupied. Like wtf. Now i can't be the Emperor (since Protestants will win)
This campaign is super weird in religious way - reformation fired up way before 1500 and religious war is also super early. Fuck! How can catolics be losing when i just converted Mecca to Catholicysm? I think i will abandon this run I will just check if computer wont settle for peace of westphalia, but dont have much hopes.
