you can core adjacent to vassals on the same continent. So I released montenegro from Zeta after warring Serbia. You can quickly ally Ottomans if you've been improving relations with them the entire time (otherwise they will go hostile, hope they don't get a -200 for Kosovo). Use Ottoman alliance to take Dalmatia off of Venice while improving relations with Austria, and let Ragusa nationalists rise up while you have a missionary to incite revolts. The rebel type switches to Catholic zealots. Convert, then (this is important!) immediately re-ally Ottomans before they lose friendly attitude, then RM + ally Austria.
Keep both Ottomans and Austria at well above +100. This way they cannot turn hostile on you.
Change capital to Dalmatia once its finished coring and join HRE.
Fight Hungary ASAP. You'll probably feel sorry for them since no one should have these two alliances available.

I still rate Granada balkans start as harder than the Albania start, its insanely risky even despite cheesing missions to roll a 5 shock general. Horn of Africa is the more logical / easier place to attack.

no cb war against ragusa brings venice and austria in a coalition which declares war against me in 1447 :/
2nd try, improve relations with austria so they dont join coalition, but venice is able to dec and siege ragusa before me
3rd try, ragusa somehow has a 5 shock king and destroys me
4th try, get ragusa, ally ottomans, war serbia, but naples breaks PU with aragon and joins venice coalition who decs me + ottomans, and now castille decs me too  Big daddy ottomans are my only hope

no-CB serbia first, the AE hit is less since its orthodox not catholic. Then fab claim on Ragusa.
you'll need loans or exploity ship selling tricks in order to field a reliable amount to beat serbias army. If you constantly send / resend improve relations to Ottomans on monthly tick you can start spamming missions for 100 army tradition in early-mid 1445 (you need Ottomans at 50 relations so the "accumulate money" and manpower missions will get priority). BYZ will ally Serbia but BYZ navy tends to go directly dropping troops in granada instead of intercepting yours so you can land troops in Zeta. Zeta is mountainous so with a good general Serbia will not straight attack into you.
Do note that I got insanely lucky (had like 10 restarts) - you have to roll a great general and still fight Serbia with terrain disadvantage + them having a flank on you. And after that I got a 5/4/4 heir.
The other Catholic alternative is restarting until Aragon starts domineering on Navarra, Portugal doesn't join HYW and allies Aragon, and Aragon attacks Navarra+Castile, so its Aragon+Portugal vs. Navarra+Castile. You have a chance to win this if you go all out. But I feel like this one of all the possible starts has the hardest war. The positive is that you can flip to Catholic immediately after, though you're going to have all three of the Iberians coalitioned against you.
Horn of Africa is by far easiest strategy and would probably be fastest, as you can ramp up your economy insanely fast with economic ideas. I might try practicing this actually, I really do need to start playing games where I don't go standard diplomatic-offensive-religious.
Btw, do you play your MP games on locked ledger?
re: Iberia. You won't be able to hold Granada unless you're lucky (I got instantly DOW'd by Castile when Austria was busy with another war). So try to sell non-capital provinces to Portugal (best, if they'll take them) or Morocco. The 1st option can lead to Castile DOWing Portugal which is always good for a laugh:

Ya locked ledger MP games
Actually just had a really good run going with ragusa first, had ragusa, dalmatia, and serbia + bosnia as vassals. Except then i forgot switching religion ends your alliances so then ottomans broke alliance and warned me and venice coalition decced me. GG

yeah, its important to re-ally Ottomans ASAP. They should still be friendly for about a month after you switch religions, then they re-evaluate their attitude towards you. If you ever drop below +100 with Ottomans they will go hostile and break alliance.
I generally convert exactly when I know I can secure Austrian alliance with an RM (so around -36 for alliance with Austria, since RM is +16 and not-same religious group is -20. You also get +10 relations for same religion)
Honestly, it might not be so bad to stay Muslim...you would have to expand into Hungary though as heathen AE penalty is massive.

Ironman so my heart about dropped at those numbers.
I have Naples as well and it's still distant overseas since no land connection obviously. Will have to go trough Venice but they're allied to France which is my ally as well.
An advantage of the distant overseas modifier is that I cored Constantinople for 80-90 admin points haha.
In my game Ottomans were only allied with Golden Horde and Crimea so Poland with Lithuania simply beat the Ottomans senseless for me all the time. The only problem was getting naval superiority. Luckily they split it up so I could take is down with 30 galleys or so.

Wtf is it with Brandenburg? Do they have medieval nukes or sth?
They completely anihilate me in a 30(me) vs 40 battle despite them having a crossing penalty before I can pull my ~120 guys from the neighboring province into the battle. Of course then I have the crossing penalty and they reinforce kill another 50 before sending me home with my tail between my legs. Granted I'm behind 2 levels in military tech but why are they that extreme?

how far are you into the game, what ideas do they and respectively you have unlocked? Generals?
Also 2 levels in mil tech is pretty badly if it is the "wrong" levels

edit: Does anyone have a recommendation of a country to play? My last 2 games were as the knights and nagaur but I'm already blobbing and they're getting boring.

Yeah I checked it after I posted here, it was lvl 24 vs 26, so new units for infantry, cavalery and artillery. Then they had tons of ideas running which boosted their infantry, generals were somewhat similar iirc. I knew I was quite a lot weaker than them which is why I didn't dare attacking them at all and only stood in defensive positions where I could outnumber them at least 3:1 but I was still amazed that they completely wipe a stack of 30 faster than I could pull reinforcements from a neighboring province
After that I quickly backed out of that war Hungary dragged me into.
Btw I'm still learning a lot while playing my first ironman game (Tuscany) which can be "interesting" at times, I found the "convert religion" button and found protestant pretty appealing...that was quite a disaster and cost me somewhere around 30-40 years of progress.

going to need to figure out a strategy, but Mongolia great khan without reforming is probably my next game.

New units, especially infantry and cannons make a huge difference. It's what can be the difference between losing and rolling over an opponent.
Edit: nice idea I'll try Mongolia out as well. Won't be going for the achievement though.

Yeah, i kinda hope they will add some diplomatic/peace options beacuse of this. So if i beat down the subject that revolted on me i can in peace option chose to replace the ruler - execute him and put someone more willing to cooparate on the throne. The rule of fear rather than soft touch of diplomacy ^^.

Liberty desire will probably be reduced after quelling a revolt. At least I would be surprised if it wasn't.

I'm curious what kind of exploit you are thinking of. To me it sounds like they are trying to severely nerf vassal feeding this way. You'll probably get your vassal to 100 liberty desire in no time if you feed him lots of provinces. And if they really get the AI to actively seek nations to support their independence (which they never do currently) that could become a real problem.
I like the idea of the liege-vassal relationship becoming more complex though and I hope they don't let the AI cheat (I want AI vassals to rise up against their AI lieges even without my direct involvement)

Theres plenty of "supporting independence" already. You just need to give them some serious motivation. In my Sweden game all my vassals with 400-600AE have someone supporting their indepedence. I kinda wonder how much AE i would have with Austria if it wasnt capped on 1000. Reached it long time ago
