Don't they get auto-wiped on second defeat in Rome 2? Also, after you bring down the last settlement, the enemy armies stop regenerating.
Dunno about Shogun 2, I had 1 province nations spawn stacks in the fog of war, and he could get like 5-6 stacks, at least in this game it's limited to 3 xD At least in my experience, they aren't fielding 3 fully top shape armies, but rather primarily massed low-tier.
Anyway, I think it is a good thing that the people you are at war with, are trying to the best of their abilities to act like assholes towards you.
You should be able to have small internal policing armies though. In real life, not every army had a crack general. Large powers would have plenty of small forces maintaining internal defense. You shouldn't have 1-man armies besieging whole cities or blockading ports, that's stupid. You also shouldn't be forced to turn a real army around to clean up BS like that.
To be honest, it doesn't really make sense that you can't have some no-name captain lead a small force on patrol. Maybe limit the size of his force, but it should still be possible.
You can right click with a settlement to force away blockading\besieging straggler groups with garrison though. That and use of agents is supposed to represent this internal policing army.
Is there any resource resembling TL.net for Rome 2? Or good site for strategy guide/explaining the game? I'm at a loss about what many things do. For example, what does "+1 cunning" give exactly? I'm also clueless about family/politics in this game. Encyclopedia isn't very helpful tt, for cunning it said something along the lines of "instead of defeating opponents by force outsmart them".. thanks lol, at least it didn't give me the dictionary definition
This game has disappointed more than even Empire total war did. I really wanted to like this game. Even though I didn't enjoy the first few hours at all I still kept playing. But I cannot lie to myself anymore. Ah well
I'm having a lot of fun. Ongoing Suebi and Athens singleplayer campaigns and Sparta/Rome co-op campaign. The game needs patching to be sure and I trust CA to do it.

Cunning = more crafty For example the more cunning your general has, the quicker his unit's abilities recharge. Furthermore at 4 cunning he unlocks battle rhythm (make's a unit get stronger and stronger for a short time, after which they exhaust greatly)
Zeal = more brute force Higher brute = units do more melee damage, and missile units do more upfront damage at all times Higher brute also unlocks you more skills.
edit: This applies with agents too, similar concept.
Thanks, going from their description to units recharge abilities faster was a stretch thought it was more for political aspect of the game. I'll check that site out

Basically. I've seen the game run fairly smoothly on some YouTubers' channels, but they probably have a ton of money invested in their computers.
Regarding agent traits (zeal, cunning, and authority), I really like that addition to the game. It adds complexity without being nitpicky and infinitesimal.

Agreed. After the awesome Shogun 2/FOTS, this is a huge dissapointment

I have been replaying Empire - I genuinely think you should too. It blows Shogun 2 out of the water for many reasons. It's just incredible.

Why? I've just been plasying it vanilla...massive game...massive possibilities, massive variety of units, runs smoothly and seamlessly on high settings. What does Darthmod do?
So i just finished a pretty long Skype chat with a friend of mine from and old mmo who coincidentally now works at SEGA. I'm not going to tell you who he is or what position he holds nor am I going to provide any verification of this claim in the form of progress reports, memos or any other kind of internal documentation as that is illegal.
What I will say to you is that he went into great detail on why Rome was released in the state it was in. The game was not ready and CA knew it was definately not even finished in the gameplay department. They had plans to implement all those missing features that caused the outcry: no family tree, guard mode, auto fire, unit formations. The game was completely rushed out in order to meet that deadline and I can tell you (again no proof of this but feel free to believe me or not) that there was a great deal of friction between the CA team and Sega.
It doesn't excuse the state of the game but at least I understand why the game is pretty much obviously half done. Also on the point of console port, he refused to comment so take that as you will.
ah, there is no doubt that TW changed after Sega took over. I had an idea that it would be their influence which would lead to less perfected games coming out but was made to be optimistic once I got used to the change of style.
Funnily enough I absolutely despise Activision with every bone in my body but when they were publishers of TW (Shogun/ M1/ Rome) they obviously worked really well with CA and the games each included massive improvements. I remember when M2 was released I was very disappointed, there was a lot of flash graphics but the gameplay left me crestfallen. However looking back it was a good game and I enjoy replaying it, the same goes for Empire and Shogun 2. Nowadays Activision horrifically ruins any game it gets involved with and while I was confident that Sega would finally be giving CA the breathing space they required, it seems they have gone down the Activision route; and have decided to fuck shit up for the sake of releasing at a good time. Sigh!

it makes everything better. Better ai better units better mechanics and a ton of small mods rolled in like a really epic blood and smoke mod.
