My specs are: GTX 560 Ti AMD Phenom x4 965 3.6 GHz 8 GB RAM I know the game isn't fully optimized yet but in its current state I still can't make the game look better than the first Rome Total War in regular campaign battles. Edit: I just tried this and it seemed to help a decent amount. I'm still tweaking things to get this game to look acceptable.

Expansion would be so tediously slow trying to build the economy necessary to support an army at home that prevents the inevitable "trade" in settlements when the legendary AI rolls a carpet to their bare cities, and then turns around and ninja attacks a random undefended settlement by boat. :s

Legendary / very hard doesnt matter.....30 turns ago i set it from very hard to legendary because its boring. in those 30 turns rome still didnt manage to create an army that has more than 2 untis of legionaires. 2 armies of gold/silver level spartan hoplits and pikemen was enough to steamroll the complete 8 roman settlements (yes rome had only 8 settlements after 70 turns)i was so disappointed. i set up a nice invasion army for rome with 3 full armies! expecting epic battles vs them. but they were so weak. funny thing is.when i attacked the first roman settlement a civil war broke out with 4 full armies of spartan hoplits pikemen etc ready to steamroll my home.. I was like "SHIT just when i attacked fucking rome." so i moved one army back and in the meantime i used my last armyslot to raise an army in athene and recruit 3 units of hoplits. then the attack on athene happened with 2 full armies (5000 men) vs my general with 3 hoplit units and my garrisoned troops (both together almost 2000). my body was already rdy to lose athene.....BUT I FUCKING WON! and not because im the greatest general (still great though ![]() They attacked 2 gates with 2500 men each. but instead of going through the holes in my wall, made by ballista, they waited until the agtes where burned down and went all through the gate only. so i had a small v-formation based greeting comitee in phalanx waiting behind each gate.... the masses flooded in....what happened?? they slowly overunned my small forces. but with overrun i dont mean rape em. they just walked THROUGH THEM. going straight for vic points. at first i was like SHIETT im done for. but then i realized my complete overrun forces almost lost NOTHING while the ai lost more than a 3rd of their armies just by passing through my hungry small joke phalanx. long story short i did it the same way with the next attack (again 5000 vs 2000), they where crippled, my from rome coming 3rd main army cleaned the civil war up while my 2 other armies killed whole rome alone......FUCKING BORING

As for Rome only having eight setylements by turn 70, its a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, Rome should be expanding faster, but on the other, in rtw1 Rome pretty much rofl stomped everything. Which was fun for a little while, fighting Rome as an empire, but it also meant if you didnt pick a faction located near rome, youd never get the chance to encounter factions like the greeks, the gauls, or the carthaginians because they get wiped out so fast otherwise. Also battles against Rome in rtw1 were extremely tedious. Their units took forever to kill and required a lot of micro management to deal with. Spending the majority of the game dealing with legions when youre playing Parthia gets very boring. Its probably an oversight in the AI, but i wouldnt mind not having to fight the roman *empire* every single campaign. Same went for the egyptians and britons who would conquer the entire map if rome was killed off early.

I've sent cavalry at routed infantry but only get a couple dozen kills, as opposed to hundreds.

Or Paradox games ? As shitty as it is both these licenses have a reputation for having to rely on modders. Paradox has made progress though with CK2 and EU4, CA not really. What really sucks about Total War games is that they still release half finished games but don't improve their moddability...
