Must be some kind of personal thing. Leaving NOH to go to Phoenix? :/

I just found something about him saying it's a waste of energy, doesn't look like it has any official source though. I wonder if missed layups result in better energy consumption

Maybe NOLA wasn't willing to offer enough coin and he felt he could get himself more on the open market?

Maybe NOLA knows more about his knees than they're letting on and feel he isn't worth a max investment? It'll be interesting to see if they match. As good as he is/could be, he could also be Roy v2.0.

They're definitely matching. They said it before FA even started.

Meh I got nothing then. Maybe he's just using it as a bargaining tool to get the most out of the contract?

edit: looks like he really wants to go to the Suns.

Gordon said Tuesday night that his preference is to play for the Suns, not the Hornets.

"After visiting the Suns, the impression the organization made on me was incredible," Gordon said in a statement. "Mr. (Robert) Sarver, Lon Babby, Lance Blanks, the Front Office Staff and Coach (Alvin) Gentry run a first-class organization, and I strongly feel they are the right franchise for me. Phoenix is just where my heart is now."

As a Mavs fan I'm kinda dissapointed with this offseason so far

At least this made me happy for a bit during theese hard times:

Really really annoyed that Gordon isn't staying. There goes the vain hope the ship would turn around instantly and also basically the entire benefit of the CP3 trade.

interesting take on raptors + fields. tldr: raptors locking down fields so he cant be used in a sign and trade with phoenix to get nash with more salary than the knick's exception could have done. they could send shumpert ... but probably will not, especially if Lin is shopping around.

the downside, raptors overpaying bad players yet again ... hoping that nash will sign and get production out of these players

So Eric Gordon is the new Joe Johnson? There's no way he's worth the max contract (in my eyes at least) especially with his injury history. Bad thing is, this could really drive up the price for Steph Curry when he hits FA next year (with the Dubs)

If he can get over the injury bug he is definitely a max contract player at his position.

gordon is still on his rookie scale, so max for him isn't joe johnson money

also curry will be worth max if he can keep those ankles healthy an entire season.

"Max contract" is being used too much. I have to agree with Zach Lowe here, it's misleading and means absolutely nothing.

The word “max” is thrown around too loosely in the NBA, as if a “max”-level deal signed immediately after the expiration of a rookie contract is equivalent to Joe Johnson’s gargantuan contract in Atlanta. Players are entitled to different levels of “max” money depending on their number of years in the league. Players with four or fewer years of experience have the lowest “max,” which starts with an annual salary a bit under 25 percent of the cap level and includes maximum annual raises of 7.5 percent. Players only get those 7.5 percent raises if they stick with their incumbent team, which is why the Hornets were smart to allow the outside market to determine Gordon’s price. Phoenix can only offer a 4.5 percent annual raise and four years, which means the Hornets — by matching instead of jumping the gun as the Grizzlies did two years ago with Rudy Gay — have saved themselves several million. Gordon’s Phoenix deal would pay him an average of just shy of $14.5 million per season, a movable contract, especially as the cap jumps by two or three percent each season starting in 2013-14.

yup, and if I'm not mistaken, depending where you are drafted also depends on how high your rookie scaled max deal can go. so someone like lbj who signed for max received more than hibberts max, at pick #17.

Yeah you're right, I was taking the gushing over phoenix to heart too much when it's probably just lip service for the contract.

Well, he said something about Sarver and co. being a top class organization, but everyone is a top class organization when you've only played for the clippers and the league owned Hornets.
