Disabling shot has no effect on the secondary weapon of sectopods from my experience.


They can still barrage you and still get a reaction shot. I think it even only skips their first shot of the next turn but I'd actually have to get my snipers to land the 80% disabling shot to confirm.


99% sure they wont reaction fire or barrage if you disable shot them.


They absolutely did both of those things to me last night. The way disabling shot works is it requires their primary weapon to reload. That takes 1 action for a sectopod and doesn't affect their secondary weapon that they use for reaction shots.

Just have one assault lightning reflexes it.
It´s not like you don´t have options there mate.

By the way i had disabled today a few sectopods, and i didn´t get shot at all. Dunno about the primary / secondary, i guess i will need to do more research.

I think there's 3 options after disabling a secto:

1st action is reload, turn ends
1st action is cannon, 2nd action reload, turn ends
1st action is cannon, 2nd action is cannon, weapon remains jammed (no free overwatch shot), turn ends

I personally prefer just adding more damage over a disable that might not buy me anything.

What's the followup on the Portent mission? (the one where you need to get the only survivor from assault on french military convoy). Cause I don't really noticed anything new. Unless it's a prequel to EXALT?

Is it possible that a country won't leave you despite 5 panic if you have a satellite there? Cause I had panic in Germany and UK, both of which had a satellite and only Germany left while UK stuck around.

If you earned a continent bonus through satellites but later on you lose one of the countries due to 5 panic do you keep the continental bonus?

I am absolutely loving the expansion; it makes the original seem really incomplete. And I don't know what y'all are complaining about in terms of difficulty. I just cleaned up the alien base on classic ironman and I've only had one casualty. The new MEC's and the genetics synergies (sniper with the aim bonus after miss is insane once you get double tap) seem to be giving me a great edge, and I even started with Africa

The exault missions where you have to defend against the hack is silly unless the computer you are defending is on open space. just put two mechs with power fists and every turn exaults die.
The new snipers can move and shoot in the same turn was a surprise.

Some things I wish they had done:
Turning of Valen and Shen was nice, but so should be turning of Control. I hate him hijacking the camera every 3 turns on missions with some kind of escort. It would be nice to have an option to hide shot% because it just causes me rage to watch 80% shots from snipers miss and 20% shots from rookies hit.

How much Meld do you need? I feel like after making two mechs that are a neccessity in early game there is never enough time or money or engineers to also genetically clone stuff if you are constantl

still, it is good old excom in the highs and lows that can be generated in back to back missions. 4 Rookies all you have left for a terror mission? But they manage to bring down everything, feel supper accomplished. 3 missions later: all your hero-rookies are on the verge of being awesome? Have 10 thin men spawn on top of your spawn and then panic shoot each other.

What I mean is fish and whale getting infested by Chrysallids, could it possibly mean Terror from the Deep? That would be exciting

I don't doubt grenades are a good answer, but I believe there are at least 10 or 11 thin men and 1 sectoid in that mission, so it's not like you have an unlimited disposal of grenades to break their cover, and even then you 1) won't kill them with one blow and 2) they still have a pretty good chance of evading your shot because your current squad has low aim. So essentially if you use a grenade, and still can't kill them with a gun with no cover it's gg there, few hours wasted start game over again.

I've cleared it with 4 rookies on Classic Ironman (without anyone dying).. You just have to know the approximate spawns and move forward slowly

I don't remember getting this mission in month one. I got no special advice for month one except good luck

Portent is month 2. The build order is not optimal yet, it was for Enemy Unknown, but since you no longer need 4 sats to save every country on month 1, but 3, you can squeeze the officer school in month one (after the first council mission normally), that way you can have 5 soldiers by portent's mission. As i said, i haven't toyed a lot of this, since i am about to finish my first impossible ironman playthrough. When i finish it, i will look for more optimal openings.

And as i said, it was quite the pain in the ass for me on impossible (i thought you were playing classic) because they have 6 HP and i was only with 4 soldiers (i liked to cut a lot of corners on EU, but by this time you would have beam weapons in EU... on IW you do not, so i think the 5 soldiers is very important early game for the terror mission and portent), i didn't lose any soldiers out of luck, everybody ended wounded that mission.

Cheers Sacrilegious, and don't get too discouraged, being challenging is a good thing. Too bad it will get old since it's an scripted mission.

By the way, somebody knows how the "story" box works in optional ? If you uncheck it, what happens ? xD

I didn't get Progeny until after I did the EXALT base, it doesn't even make sense that Portent is a forerunner of that mission from a narrative perspective.

Portent is before you ever see an EXALT mission, you find a convoy killed not by aliens, but by other humans. This is your first contact with EXALT. Presumably through the interrogation of that guy, you know EXALT when they hit you later. Once you kill the EXALT base, it makes sense that you find hidden stuff they left behind that the aliens want, which is the narrative backdrop for Progeny. I'm not disagreeing they're part of a storyline, but I'm disagreeing that the 2 council missions (plus the 3rd where you rescue the other guys) are the only ones there.

Eh, I did a new Ironman Classic run with some second wave options and everything went well until Portent :D
My Officer building was late 3 days because I got a promotion to Sergeant too late, I didn't have beam weapons and then Critmen one shot crited my heavy on first attack :D (and he was behind full cover and had that medal that gives +5 defense more :D). My sniper could not hit anything and it was over before it started.

Shit happens yep, had to restart my second playthrough because got 6 losses by the end of the first month, and no way in hell i can do the terror mission later on. I finished my I/I, and i am currently toying with the second wave, training roulette combined with not born equal and the other one which makes them level up with different stats makes that every soldier is a single entity on its own. I am liking it (even tho it is quite harder)

Do I need to complete alien base assault to get followup missions for Portent? Cause right now I'm almost at the end of november, I destroyed exalt base, got satellites in every country and got all the tech, but I still hold on on the assault hoping to do everything. But so far I only receive ufo landings or interceptions and no council missions.

My god the base defense mission (if anything up to that point hadn't) completely convinced me that In The Zone wins out over Double Tap by a long ways. Getting to shoot 5 times in one turn, multiple times over the course of a mission, with your highest damage, most consistent, longest range character is just bonkers.

Not really, but doing the alien base the sooner the better. It's simple, the aliens inside will be always the aliens you are currently fighting, if you wait, you will get harder aliens, so there is no real drawback to going soonish to make it. I do it normally by month 3, because you will get a lot of resources, panic decrease and cash.
