edit - forgot to say I'm really excited to play this game. I've been watching the LP of the original that someone posted here getting ready for it. I'll have to do a playthrough myself sometime soon too.

I was skeptic at first, until I saw the hatching animation. Pretty terrifying stuff. Did you know they can jump several storeys to high to reach your soldiers now?

The only things i hadn't seen was Snakesman, Reapers and Ethereals right now. Hope Reapers are gone for good, useless shit, and the close combat mutton should get rid of it's role to be honest.

Ethereals are definitely in, but I haven't seen Reapers either. minor spoilers + Show Spoiler + Thinmen are the reimagined Snakemen.

You have really beaten TFTD dozens of times? If so, then I envy your patience :-) Those ship missions are sooo long and repetitive.

That's the vibe i get from the dev team regarding sectoids, that they'll be replaced by mutons (unlike in the original where they became badass with psi skills right before ethereals started touching down on earth).

Looking at TUs in comparison to only 2 moves(which can be varied by abilities of soldiers) does not in fact make it simpler i think. The amount of TUs in my opinion made it easier, because you could move through a door, shoot an alien and move out(assuming the alien does not react). You can slowly inch forward and do not have to commit to anything that is not safe. Smaller squads but a lot higher emphasis on a single soldier. I for one played the first x-com with around 14 soldiers, 6 of these mattered to me. The other 8 were just cannon fodder which was supposed to walk around, scout and die. For this makes it harder to decide, which move is the correct move, because if i make a mistake and Sgt. Fuzzy Boots, whom i carried around since the first mission, dies, i am royally screwed. This to me seems not easier but actually harder than the original. I have no idea about friendly fire, but that is only a minor point in my eyes. The fact that you only have one base, which you have to develop (you can station interceptors in bases on every continent) does not make it dumber just because it is easier. The decision where you place your first base, matters so much more because of the initial bonus that base will give you(e.g Europe cheaper Sci and Eng, US cheaper air force, Asia better future warfare). I for one think saying it is simpler thus making it dumber, is just flawed logic. No one would say that chess is a dumb game, even though it is simple. Btw. anyone on TL interested in playing Multiplayer once the game is out? I think it is too early to tell if the game has or has not been dumbed down. The changes that I personally hate the most are the lack of in-combat inventory management, because this functionality allows to have cool "clutch" moments (being able to pick up loaded weapons/ammo, carrying unconscious soldiers or aliens to the craft to abort and save them, etc.). I really don't like this simplification and I don't see how it is not making the game more straightforward (which is what I think the phrase "dumbing down" implies). But fuck this, maybe the new special ability system will somehow replace this. What I really hate is no map randomization/really destructible environments. And this is due to tech limitations (afaik Unreal Engine depends heavily on the concept of a static "map"). How ridiculous is that, huh? Today's tech can't achieve what was somehow possible 20 years ago with like 500 000 times less computational power? Or maybe it's just that the engine choice was not appropriate? How come ten years ago this was possible: but not today? Grrrr...

Regular Floaters and Heavy floaters. Pretty sure they thought about it, but who knows. I saw a "midgame" with heavy floaters, and Greg getting buttraped by chrysalids haha. So i guess you will start to stream on 9 ? Will you go for singleplayer or multiplayer at first ? Poor Europeans guys like me will need their X-COM fix baby! ;p

Anyone know how much Zrbite I need to manufacture the Leviathan? Although it doesn't state it needs it to manufacture (only for fuel) it won't allow me to put any technicians on it :[

When i saw my best shot Caitlyn get a plasma projectile into the back and fall down, i was close to Alt+F4 and end that game for good. Luckily she just got wounded and got promoted to Captain since the former Captain Xin Zhao died just a turn later when he turned around a corner into 2 Sectoids and his two auto attacks at 3 tiles distance managed to miss both of them and even his tankyness couldn't keep him alive against 2 plasma rifles pointed at his guts. I'm thinking about making a LoL vs DotA2 run. Half the soldiers are named after LoL champions, the other after DotA2 heroes. The half with the most kills at the end of the game (win or lose) wins the contest for the better MOBA :p I pre-ordered the new X-Com now. Since it has Chrysalids it has a chance of being the relentless soldier-slaughtering game an X-Com title has to be.
