man this game is so hard to play

because I can't fucking join any servers. I've gotten into a lot but only managed to play in like 3 or 4 and that was for like a minute or so.

wat do

finally after like 4 hours i'm stable

edit 2: don't alt tab

3: fuck sake man, am I the only person having an absolute ridiculous time trying to connect to servers? My ping is fine

It takes a while to load into servers sometimes. Don't disconnect if you aren't getting in. Let it load. The reason for the server problems come almost exclusively from people disconnecting while "waiting for server browser".

Alt tab should work fine. Both my friends and I haven't had any problems with alt tabbing.

I understand your frustrations with server issues because everyone is dealing with it. Remember though, this IS an alpha version of the game. It was meant nothing more than a tech demo and slightly playable mod that has exploded in popularity.

If you can't be patient loading in to the server then good luck in the actual game.

I actually play the game in windowed mode with the run-in-background flag enabled so that I can easily alt-tab out to check maps or whatever without potentially fucking everything up ;x

I cringe every time I tab back in, because so many times I've tabbed back in and my character will randomly fire a round. Not exactly great when I have my CZ550 out, or when I'm crawling around in a town... D=

Oh there's no way I'd ever have it out in or near a town. I keep it out to check large fields or to read sign etc., but when I'm near a town I pretty much always have my Revolver/Winchester out. When I started this game and before I learned about agro distance from weapons I pretty much exclusively used the Lee Einfield just because the ammo was/is so easy to come by. It's pretty much the equivalent of the CZ minus the scope. However, I like to refer to is as the "Lee-aggro-the-world-insta-death-Einfield" - -'.

Yes. Night is pretty much impossible to see in unless you have night-vision goggles, though.

They say that helps, but I never noticed any difference; it's still basically pitch black except for faint building outlines. Could be because my eyesight is bad, though.

I was watching someone play this game and he ran out of flares, so he had to fire his weapon so he could see where the zombies were. So scary seeing them come closer only frame by frame.

Found a UAZ jeep near Solinchiny, it looks perfectly fine. I think it only needs fuel and a windshields.

edit: Any know how to repair vehicles? On the left hand corner, all the icons are green. Doesn't that indicate everything is fine but apparently I can't seem to fuel the jeep with my jerry can.

I had 100 or so viewers for my DayZ stream after Talutha sent them... and a couple hours later, a script kiddie air struck the airfield killing 3 out of 4 us.

I had finally found a toolbox in the factory west of Solnichniy when someone aggroed all the zombies before I was able to leave and got me killed.

Well, I'm off to a decent start in my new life. I was making my way back north from spawn Kamenka when I encountered another survivor. That is, I spotted him from a distance and followed him until he was through Pavlovo. I then shot him while he was in the open field...I thought I had heard automatic weapons fire in the distance, so I was hoping he would have a gun for me. It looked like he had just spawned and looted the town a bit though. Still, not bad, and he had a toolbox.

ok nvm, the server reset and i didnt even get to keep the stuff i looted

A bit late, but I figured I'd comment on the whole playing at night aspect. I personally find it a tooon of fun, and it adds a whole new element to the game. I normally play with a buddy of mine, and we carry around Chemlights (glowsticks) so that we can stay together and clear towns with military flashlights (I actually recently found a G17 with a flashlight attachment, soo nice at night!). Haven't really been scared by this game before, but crawling around in the pitch black with a flashlight having zombies growl on your left and right is deffinately.... an experience.

Oh, and never EVER EVER EVERRRR use a Flare anywhere near you are, or may be going. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but every time I've chucked a flare in a town or just in general to give vision zombies swarm out of seemingly nowhere. Flashlights and chemlights don't affect them from what I can tell.

They run to the flares so its important to not throw flares less than 20 meters from a location you want to be passing though. A good tip is to throw the flares really far around you, it will give you insight on towns etc and let you gauge the number of zeds in the vicinity, as well as potentially force other survivors to back off or reveal themselves. However they could always not and hunt you down, but until you have better equipment for night (eg NVG's) its worth the risk rather than stumble round in the dark.

I always keep really slow and careful at night, since it is so easy to get lost or snuck up on at night.

It's far more satisfying to lock down an area with bros with chemlights and shit. Or just not play at night.
