I have a little problem, maybe someone here can help me.
I was playing fine last night but today I pressed something on accident(i think) but now I cant see the reticle in the middle of the screen making it really hard to aim

Plenty of servers like to force you to use iron sights and first person view. Just try another server.
I'm honestly in favor of forced first person. Laying down in grass while using third person is essentially legit wall hacking.

I just started, no idea how this game works and seemingly its impossible to play during the night without a set NVG.

I may be wrong on that but the reticle could be a bug, I don't think it was even supposed to be in the mod in the first place, again to be more realistic. I use the zoom-in/close-up aim and it's more accurate anyway.

The ones labeled Veteran or Expert will get rid of the reticle, 3rd person, or both.

Dunno. I picked a random spot on an American map and placed a google person on it, then took down the address and used that. You might be able to do it your way, but it's far more obvious that you're lying than if you pick a real address. It'll take almost as much time as making up a fake address on the spot.

I'm from Canada, I just put my full address in the street address, picked CA for state and put 90210. Worked fine.

I guess that's the key.. people seeing this as purely another CoD or whatever, making it easy to kill. I expect that on the southern coast and only go there at night because of that. Anyway, I'm loving this game. I highly enjoy the fact that there are people who will kill anyone.. it makes the game much more enjoyable and intense. As someone that is highly geared and knowledgable of the map, I love nothing more than seeing people and asking if anyone is at such and such a place.
Two days ago I was at the NW airfield at night. I was preparing to loot the northern barracks when I saw someone prone in the field just east of it. He didn't have NV or any light source active. I asked "is anyone at the NW airfield?".. no response. I ask again "are there any friendlies at NW airfield? please let me know now or I'll shoot anyone I see". This person starts moving, obviously hearing what I said and choosing not to respond. By chance, I also knew who he was as he chased me away from the airfield earlier during the day... except the night is my territory. Anyway, 3 silent shots to the head and he was gone. Just to talk shit afterwards, I announced to the server that I now own the NW airfield and don't come unless you want to die. His clan had 3-4 on the server and the message was meant for them. After I said that, I proceeded east to berezino... :D
Once the comm system is working properly, global chat will also be removed. So, the system which most people use now, of asking if friendlies are at _____, will not work nearly as well in the future. You'll have to go near them and risk yourself to communicate with them.

Are you supposed to start with a map or do you have to find one? There just a black space where the map should be for me.

They are fairly common in the two main towns though

I spawned on the coast near a lighthouse, first thing I did was run to the forest. Because I started playing during dusk, my plan was to try and not waste time, find some food & weapons, while avoiding the cities / towns / roads. I came across a small house and a barn, in the latter I found a sniper rifle, but no ammunition. I also found a soda can as well as some wood. Suddenly, just as I was about to exit the barn, a zombie came in and started walking in my direction. 3 shots to the stomach, and the poor bastard went down. As you'd expect, the gunshot noise attracted a nearby zombie who was nonchalantly moaning in the backyard.
This one wasn't like his dead friend: he was faster, and seemingly angrier. As he started running towards me while screaming like a madman, I drew my trustworthy pistol and put an end to his misery. Anyway, there was no time to waste in that place; 2 zombies are dead, but who knows how many of them might be lurking in the vicinity? I left the building in a Sam Fisher-esque way, and ran back to the woods. I was in a tricky situation: I had no rifle ammo, no food, and the night was falling rapidly. That silent, deadly night that every player fears (except those who got Night Vision goggles I guess). So I went on to find another place to loot, preferably an isolated farm. Unfortunately the whole plan had a serious flaw: I had no map nor compass.
After running through the woods for about 5 minutes, I came across a zombie who saw / heard me right away, and the sadistic monster managed to hit me once before he bit the dust. Mind you, the son of a bitch was not alone; one of his associates ambushed me as I was reloading, and began clawing at me. Eventually, I was able to defend myself but the wounds were too deep, I had to use a bandage. Then, a few minutes later, as I went on my mission, the scope of my empty sniper rifle allowed me to spot a couple of buildings in the distance. I stumbled upon a small town called Bor, and to my discomfort, it was full of walkers. I tried to throw flares in order to lure them away, but I realized there were way too many zombies, and it was getting way too dark, so I hid near a tree and left the server.
Man this game is hardcore, I love it. We definitely need to form a group, playing alone is way too dangerous

I'm a huge wuss -_-;
Spawned in a town next to a dead zombie, the ambient music and eerie quietness doesn't help either. Really need a group to play with LOL =/
|
Turn off music. Just do it. You need to be listening for any slight hint there could be a zombie around the corner.
Isolated barns and hunting stands are your best bet if you are low on ammunition.
Grouping up intuitively seems like a good idea, but realize what it does. It is much more likely to aggro zombies in a group. To counter this, make sure your squad leader always has an exit strategy. If one of you aggro's, everyone haul ass to the nearest safe house (hopefully a barn). You'll burn all of your ammo, but better then scattering and possibly losing someone. You could also just have one guy scavenge with an empty backpack, and run back to the squad providing over watch to pistol down any perusing zombies. I actually ran 15 minutes to my buddy after I ran out of ammo to get him to shoot three zombies off of my. Turns out I had one extra pistol clip in my back pack.
Best thing groups do is protection against players. Enemy players with rifles with rifles in advantageous positions will still try to take out groups of 3. Just because you are in a group doesn't mean you are invincible, don't stay in the open.

Dammit! I was on a great run, collecting up tons of supplies and gadgets, but some zombie got a lucky hit on me while I was fumbling around with my weapon (giggidy) and broke one of my bones. I don't have any morphine and regular painkillers don't fix bone breaks. Neither do bandages. I can only crawl around on my belly now.
Now, unless anyone can be bothered to come all the way up to where I'm holed up in a forest on the west side and bring me some morphine sometime later today, I'm down to two choices really: 1)Hope to get lucky on nearby zombie drops (very unlikely, as I've never seen morphine drop), or 2) Crawl all the way to a hospital. There aren't any on my side of the map. I'd have to crawl all the way down to the coast.
I guess I could pick off a newly spawned survivor down there on the coast, which seems mean, but I guess, if you've only just spawned, you can just spawn again without losing anything. I don't really want to do that, though. I'm happy with my clean sheet at the moment. Oh, I could also respawn with a new char. Don't want to do that either.

Where are you exactly? I'm in the town called Bor, and as I spawned recently I didn't use anything but a bandage and a can of food. I guess I have some morphine & painkillers I don't have any map nor compass though
