Why should a person have to unlock heroes that are a crucial core of the gameplay? It's like playing SC2 and saying "you can get maurauders and stim packs at level 20 or if you pay $10 now!"
You get where im heading, the game will never have any form of balance when you cant/are unable to have access to heroes that are essential for a strategy or a certain counter, unless ofc you shell out like $500 for all the content as im guessing they're going down lol route of shitting out the same generic heroes every 2 weeks for ze moneyz..
While I really do dislike the mechanic as well (much prefer the old hon-way, pay once get all the heroes), you can't deny lol being stupidly successful despite having the very same mechanic.

Isn't the view that separates it from a fokton of DOTA clones? I haven't tried it yet, so can't really judge.

Would be nice if somebody gave me a key, will be giving every one I get back here ASAP

There is simply no need for beginner players to be able to play with every single champion at the start, it just confuses things.
Take LoL/DotA for instance. The way you learn the game is through familiarity. Being able to choose 1 of 100 champions is going to make your first games hell. In 10 games, if you're constantly up against different champions, you're not going to know what the fuck they are, what they do or if your character actually has the ability to beat them. The ones you face in the first few games are going to be forgotten and you're simply just going to have a lot of a harder time understanding the game as it's constantly being changed each game.
If you take LoL or Smite, you'll be facing roughly the same lot of heroes for the first 10 games. That means you can understand it a whole lot better. You know what those champions are about, what you can and can't do versus them and is just a lot more calming having familiar aspects in each match. It's simply no good every time getting into a match where you're like, "who the fuck are all these champions and what do they do?".

This isn't an accurate comparison, though it's an easy mistake to make. A better one would be " You are only allowed to play as Terran, but you need to unlock Zerg and Protoss". However, the Terran race is complete and you have no disadvantages in comparison to anyone else playing Terran. That's where many people fail with their comparisons.
Also the best way to learn the game anyway is to just stick with one hero the whole time, as such it's not that bad, and you can test them out during the freeweeks as well. It takes me around 3 days to get 6300 IP in LoL for the most costly champions and the cheaper ones are way cheaper, you really don't need to change your favored hero every few hours or anything.
Above post has an extremely good point as well - The beginner player will be mainly playing against the 10 freeweek champions in LoL for instance. I remember when I was starting out that those were the ones that I tested vs bots (To figure out what their skills did), and playing vs them was pretty easy then. It's a lot more difficult to get into a game if you need to learn what each of the 100~ heroes in the game do. Learning them 10 at a time is much easier. Also, even though you occassionally will play vs heroes that aren't free at the start, there's usually just 1 or 2 in the game and you can pretty much ask your teammates what they do or look it up. Even so you are already familiar with all the others and need to just learn one new hero.
I think that this system is a lot nicer for beginners than say, DotA, even if it restricts you somewhat.

Third person view messes everything up and makes action impossible to follow. i agree ! the view totally kills the potential .. :/ I don't know about you, but after a few games skillshots become pretty easy gauge and map awareness gets pretty easy. Not only can you use the mini map but you can see friend/foe hit points on the screen no matter the distance, so when I'm in mid and look at the left lane and know they are engaging, I can tell whether my allies are winning, retreating or pushing as well as how low the enemies are. This means I can pretty much decide whether the engagement will be over by the time I get there or whether I can make a difference in the fight and save allies or finish off the enemies.
im sure that you will get used to it when u played enough games but still i think this weird view will always be worse than the "usual" moba view

You've never played or heard of League of Legends? Hint: It's the game which is crapping all over SC2 stream view counts and has the exact same system.

You can try all of the Gods for free in solo play (vs Bots) so you dont even have to unlock them to know what they do

Am I eventually going to need Favor for something else (as in they're worth saving up), or is it always going to be just for buying heroes?
I'm quite happy with Ra, but if the points serve no other purpose whatsoever I might as well spend them on Hades because he looks cool. xD

i didnt like the way this game felt. just felt 'cheap' in the animations and the way skills played out. and the viewing angle made it very difficult to judge what would be in range of my skills.

Eventually they will put in something like the LoL rune system and you will use favor to unlock them.
And hades is cool but very team dependant, you will need good teamwork to play him as he should be played. Zeus+Hades= roflstomp (unless they are using purification beads)

Can someone pm me a beta key? I played HoN / Dota / Dota 2 for multiple years and would like to try this game out . Also, I already have a Hirez account cause of Tribes Ascend ^^

I'd love a key for me and my friend to play together. We've been playing DotA for a while

I guess it's smarter to save up then?
Then again, with it being alpha those changes could be really far down the road and spending 5k now won't matter as much.

Would like to have a beta key for this game if anyone got an extra key to spare.. thanks a whole bunch in advance, this game looks like a real blast!

I've played about 50 games so far and I'm really hoping this game picks up. It's still in early beta (according to their FAQ, they're looking for a Q1-2013 release) but I'm loving it so far. There are some major map and champion balance issues that need to be addressed, but those are minor to the highly optimized servers (like 3 second load in time, wtf) and action-packed gameplay. I've been having so much fun.
