You need to find embers to be able to ascend weapons(modify equipment, first option in blacksmith menus). The large ember allows weapons to go from +5 to +6(also to raw, but that sucks anyway), you can't ascend it yourself and only one blacksmith can do so for each ember(andre in the undead parish in this case), then you can reinforce yourself from +6 to +10. You probably already have the large ember to give to andre, it's kind of hard to miss+ Show Spoiler +It's in the depths in a chest where the first butcher was. To get a weapon to go lightning you need to get it to +10 and then ascend it with the giant blacksmith(no ember needed to go lightning besides the large ember to get to +10).
For other types you would need other embers. For example, to make a divine weapon, you would need to get the divine ember(allows up to +5 divine, ascend from normal +5 weapon), then to get higher would need large divine ember(up to +10 divine) or dark ember(up to +5 occult, ascend from +5 divine). Again, ascending weapons to new types can only be done at the blacksmith, so to get from +5 normal to +0 divine, and from +5 divine to +6 divine would take a blacksmith, then you could reinforce yourself at bonfire to get to +10 divine.

You have analog control. Its inside the mouse. Also I believe its just 8 way directional control with the left stick.
Also here is the upgrade routes.

Right well in the game its only 8 way directional control. Just because they threw an analogue stick to it doesnt mean your getting analog control.
In fact most games just do 8 way. Its easier to program.
EDIT: Actually I take that back. Its closer to 16 or 24 way directional. So you can move in more directions with the stick than you can a keyboard if camera controls are not factored in.
That being said. I dunno about you, but 90 percent of my tweaking is done with the camera. Im not actually left sticking myself around corners. Nor would I WASD exclusively around them. I would either use the mouse to do most of the labor, or the right stick.
But, yeah controller is way better.

I tweak with the camera too even when I use analogue stick, especially for 3d platformers. For example if I have to walk across a narrow bridge I center the camera behind the character so I have to push straight up on the stick rather than at a more difficult to judge angle.

Controller has a few problems too though. For instance I can't:
Dash and tweak the camera (right thumb overbudgeted). Alter my direction quickly while changing spells or items or swapping hands (left thumb overbudgeted). Also can't swap 1h to 2h while changing the camera.
But I can do all these with the mouse and keyboard, as long as I bind it right anyway.

Woah WTF, is Seath the Scaleless supposed to be that easy? I didn't get hit once and just followed his tail around whacking it for like 3 minutes. Nito was also super easy but he almost at least killed me once...not quite, but almost did.
|
Seath is probably one of the easiest fights yes
|
Getting the tail chop is tricky. His tail lash is very damaging.

Oh I didn't know you could lob off his tail. I whacked at one of his side ones and nothing chopped off D:

when you manage to make seath destroy the crystal that makes him invincible with one of his laser attacks, he'll stun himself and you'll get enough time for the tail chop
there is a video on that on youtube.

For the first exemple you used, I had to developp a new skill, which is pressing the sprint key with the side of my index. It hurt a bit at first, but now I can sprint AND move the camera. I probably could switch hands as well, but never had to I think. For the second exemple, I overreach with my right hand. Not as efficient as a keyboard probably, but it's not something I do often anyway... I'm on the X360 controller, if that changes anything...

I know you can do that, but that defeats the purpose of ergonomics.

took a little break to focus on dota more but I'm back and addicted allover again. Before my break I had just got to S&O and didn't really attempt them. Now they are dead I have my lord vessel and what seems to be on the start of the 2nd half of the game.
Right now this is my first character and he's probably pretty bad. I'm a str build wearing heavy armor (havels set + ring) and using +5 Lightning Garg Halbred until I get my STR high enough to switch to one of the beast str weapons. I know this build isn't great, especially for pvp but seems to work out ok in PVE. I hit hard, I take hits well, all is good.
I want to roll a new character afterward and I'm looking for suggestions. I dont use ANY magic on my main so that's something I'd like to incorperate. I'd also like to be a bit more speedy, fastest rolls, quick weapons etc. I'm thinking some sort of DEX/FAITH PvP build. Any thoughts?

40 Vitality 40 Dex 40 Endurance Magic Adjust as needed Quelaags Furysword the light armor set you fancy Wolf Ring Ring of Protection and Favor
basic build to pwn some fools with Pyromancy. Perfectly viable in PvE too.
|
Uchigatana +15 will generally do more damage (over furysword) because of dex scaling. Better attacks too. Furysword is better with lower dex (and higher other stats).

Str builds are actually great for PvP(and PvE too), possibly the best builds, as big weapons can still be pretty quick to swing, easily stagger players, and will just demolish someone's health regardless of what armor they wear, as well as having greater reach than other weapons. On console a popular setup was Black Knight Greataxe and Giant's Armor with the Dark Wood Grain Ring(I used paladin gloves and mask of the child/mother with giants chest+legs and that BKGreataxe on a char and could still flip, though dwgr is nerfed now so can't anymore).
Dex/Faith sounds like a good choice based on what you described. A lot of the dex weapons are really fun, and none of them can be definitively called "the best" as there are balanced benefits and drawbacks to each. There aren't many weapons that scales off of both dex and faith, though there are a few(more than str/faith weapons anyway, even if Grant hammer is really good). Astora's Straight Sword in the Valley of the Drakes is a personal favorite of mine and good early, but there is also a very good boss weapon for both scalings+ Show Spoiler +Ornstein's Dragonslayer Spear, really good for PvP, very long reach and can shoot lightning bolts , but most of the time you have to pick between a dex weapon or a faith weapon for scaling, and people generally go dex weapon +15 and buff it because of how powerful they become. Buffs give a flat damage bonus, so fast weapons benefit more. I would recommend faith as a better secondary stat than int, though you could go int if you really want to. Int is more fun as a pure sorcerer though.
@Medrea You shame the Bushido elders with your choice of Uchigatana. Even if Chaos Blade is the strongest katana for damage, everyone knows Iaito is the true masters weapon

I am not sure about the Uchigatana +15 but the Chaosblade +5 hardly does more damage then my Furysword +5 at 10 humanity. In the end I personally dont care that much about 30dmg plus or minus as most damage comes from the pyromancies when I play pvp.
most weapons are viable in DS so everybody should find the weapon they like best. I like my Furysword it has style ^_^

Chaos blade also just has B scaling like the furysword. At +14 Uchigatana gains A scaling. Iaito does as well.
Additionally, a +15 uchigatana is enchantable whereas the furysword is not. On top of this, Katana's inflict bleed damage, which also gets benefits from being enchanted. Also as far as I know, the fire portion of the furysword does not scale with stats.
With 40 Dex and 30 faith, in a lot of places it (Uchi) will do over 700 damage wielded in one hand with power within and a 1.8 mag adj weapon buff.
Sure weapon buffs only last 60 seconds but boss fights dont last much longer than that!
If your going the dex route. I feel Uchigatana or Iaito (if you prefer) are the best in conjunction with the bandit's dagger if thats your thing. Gold Tracer is also pretty popular (also has A scaling). Also Black Pharis Bow is nice.
Basically the biggest problem with Dark Souls boss weapons (and weapons in general) is they are often not enchantable, so weapons that are have a HUGE advantage.
