I'll teach you a trick to prevent death and losing all your souls from falling off the cliff. Just right when you starting to fall, immediately press alt+f4 to close the game. As long as you closed it when your hp bar is still red and not depleted, you will be able to load the save and start at some point before where you fell. You keep all your souls and no death has occurred.
This only works if you are falling, it will not save you from enemy attacks. However, say that you are getting owned by a boss and you don't want to die, you can do the same by alt+f4 and you will start outside the boss area again.

A more legit solution is to equip a ring of sacrifice for some insurance until you can recover your bloodstain.
|
Ring of Favor and Protection feels like cheating already. That is just too easy.
My advice is to never do that and just accept your failure like a man and learn from it.

So I'm running through a new game with a sorcerer character and I have to say that sorcery makes boss fights super trivial. I haven't died once yet. When I was playing my first game, I'm SO glad i decided to go with a melee only character first. Playing a mage seriously takes the fun out of boss fights.

Playing the game a second time makes many boss fights super trivial. My second playthrough, I don't think I died at all before a few fluke deaths to Iron Golem involving my body flying off the tower. After Anor Londo things get tougher, but yeah, for the earlier bosses there really shouldn't be that much to challenge you once you know what you're doing.
Edit: Not saying mages aren't great at certain / most bosses, just that having an easier time after your first playthrough probably isn't solely because of the class.

You don't need 27 humanities for farming, thats way overkill. You hit max item discovery from humanity at 10 humanity, but you don't even need to go there, you can have just 1 and the ring to get 350/410, or 5 humanities and ring for 380/410 if you really want it.
And you don't need to farm most titanite, including in the depths(leeches in blighttown drop 5 green anyway, and large too) you find enough titanite from chests/lizards to upgrade at least one weapon by the time you get to sen's. The giant blacksmith(twinkling)/sen's fortress merchant(everything but twinkling) sells almost all of the titanites and farming souls is far faster than the actual titanite. The only thing you need to farm are slabs and chunks, and each of the slab dropping enemies drop chunks more often.
For those who want to know where to farm: For all colors of chunks only, farm+ Show Spoiler + the black knights in final area . For regular slabs/chunks(and dragon scales), farm+ Show Spoiler +Darkwraiths in New Londo. This is one of the best, as they drop a lot of chunks too, you can also farm Drakes for Dragon Scales, and there are a lot more Darkwraiths to farm than the other enemies that drop other colors. For Red, farm + Show Spoiler +Chaos Eater Octopi in Lost Izalith for slabs/chunks, and the non attacking chaos bugs for chunks and sunlight medals . White and Blue are a bit more of a pain. For white you have to farm+ Show Spoiler +Pinwheel servants for white slabs(quite rare)/chunks, though the skeletons in the tomb drop chunks and for blue farm+ Show Spoiler +Moonlight Butterflies for slabs(excruciatingly rare) and chunks, though crystal golems drop chunks only and are far easier to farm .

One more boss and that's it. I might go for dlc area before finishing. But what a game. Can't wait to start with a new character.

Hell you can do it when you're dead too. When you reload the game the first thing you'll do is die but you'll be at a doorway somewhere. Usually not around mobs.

Might be a coincidence, but DS crashed on me for the first time ever just now. I was fighting the crystal goblin things in the duke's archives, took an arrow to the back, and program close.
hm and now the game won't open... gonna try verifying integrity and restarting my comp

Maybe you experienced a random bit flip in RAM due to cosmic radiation (this actually happens more often than you think. But often you won't really notice). If it hits something on the OS side, it will sometimes disable the OS from shutting down properly, etc.

something is royally fucked up. i don't know much about hardware so...

yes, when you try to access the HDD and things take a) forever to load b) things mysteriously disappear from the disk drive area, and c) the drive is relatively old, you're suffering from an HDD failure. Buy a new HDD asap, copy all of your necessary shit off of dying drive, and replace. DO IT NOW. If you wait, and play the gamble game, you'll be more fucked when the HDD fails to register and you lose everything.

alright thanks i'll get one today. luckily i'm about 30 min from newegg pickup facility so i can buy off of them and get it the same day.
i'll fucking cry if i lose all my dark souls saves...it doesn't save on the steam cloud, since on this laptop none of my saves are here. i have over 100 hours played already lol

getting a bit bored with pvp. Got a mage, faithy and a new pyro but I rarely use their spells because a lot of them are just boring. Only good thing about pyro is throwing fireballs but you have you do that manually. Mage spells hard to land and are pretty boring like the homing ones. Only viable faith spell is WoG but I don't like using that really.
I think I'll make a support style cleric for pvp and see how that goes.

Is there a list of what exactly they added/changed in the "DLC" areas of this version?

Best thing ever.
PvP story, but spoilered in case anyone doesn't want to hear about later areas of the game:
+ Show Spoiler +I'm grinding up my newer PvP toon still (Dante theme) by invading in the Kiln. I haven't been having very good luck today; not only am I underleveled and unpracticed with this build/weapons, but I've been getting tons of annoying fat bodies. Anyway, about 10 minutes ago I invaded after taking a short break, and I landed in a game with two fatties waiting. I decided to just haul ass to the bridge section between the second and third black knights and fight on strange footing. I ended up doing a ton of damage to the host by charging up a Fire Tempest behind one of the pillars. After a bit more running around and shenanigans, I ended up back rolling over a spot (right where the ground meets the bridges) by luck that was actually not solid, and the host chasing me hit it and just fell through the small hole. Minor victory, minor amusement. Few thousand souls.
Then, the next game I landed in was two guys in full Darkwraith armor, weapons and all. In fact, the host's partner was even invaded HIS game as a dark spirit, for the roleplay I'm assuming. Decided to do the same thing, hauled ass to the bridge where they hadn't killed any of the knights. This time I immediately went behind a pillar and let a Tempest rip. The friend (dark spirit) whipped around the corner and got it, the recoil launching him off the edge. I looped around the same pillar the safe route evading the host, and started backing up onto the bridge where the Black Knight armor set normally is. Backpedaling away from the host with my guard up, the 3rd knight in the Kiln comes jogging from my right side and lands a sprinting blow on the unsuspecting host, knocking him clean off the bridge. By this point I'm already laughing, but I wasn't ready for the icing on the cake:
528,000 souls.
