i love my iaito. the 2h strong attack isn't great (slow) but it covers a lot of ground, but the 1h strong attack catches a LOT of people off guard because it's so fast and covers great ground. the normal attacks are the exact same, but i personally like the iaito better than the uchi.
also - anyone around lv 50 want to help me transfer some items? will only take a few mins and i'll give you a soul of gywn for your efforts

edit: also, will having more dex make miracles cast faster? like lightning spear? because i have 10 and it's slow as balls
Iaito strong attack is just badass. When I used to use it I'd bait with an R1 at range and followup with an R2 which sometimes catches people off guard.
I think it will only cast faster with 45 dex so it's not really worth it seeing as 45 dex only makes your lightning spears faster, not any of the Force spells.
Will probably make the gravelord spell faster though.
Made two more videos. One of my dex/faith like the previous:
AAAAAAAND my new mage. Pretty incomplete at the moment but it's a lot of fun so far.

Yeah, dex works on most spells (sorceries, pyros, miracles) for more cast speed. It works on the lightning spears. It doesn't work on the homing soulmasses, weapon buffs, mist spells, self buffs like power within/flashsweat/iron flesh, heals, and force spells(and possibly magic barrier?).
The problem is that the actual cast speed gained is very minimal on all spells, and effectiveness varies for each spell. Combustion for instance will cast only about 7 ms faster at 45 dex, fireball about 14 ms, while possibly the slowest spell firestorm casts about 50 ms faster. Lightning spear is one of the ones it works better with, but the overall gains from cast speed are often not worth the investment in dexterity unless you were planning to be a dex warrior in the first place.
this game is pretty crazy. I haven't played a game that required a controller in over a decade so I'm a bit rusty but holy crap.
After the first little area when the bird takes you away, I ran around dying for a good hour or so. Since there is no real direction on where to go (seems like some ghost appears at certain points to guide you?) first path I walked off a failed staircase, then I ran in these ghosts mobs that it didnt seem like I could even damage and their attacks went through block. I died a few times running through them. Then I went to a graveyard and had epic fights with skeletons. I figured this was the path I was supposed to be because I heard the game was hard but jesus fuck those skeletons and especially the giant skeletons were brutal. After running that path killing 6-8 then finally dying over and over and over, I realized I needed to actually go up the stairs. What a relief it was once I got to the undead place, that place was so easy and felt more tuned to my level. I have a feeling I'm going to run into a lot of roadblocks like those described.
edit: should i look up builds? This is my first play through, I've avoided spoilers etc., but I don't want to get to say lv50 and be a worthless retarded. I chose bandit from the start, I've only upgraded strength, dex, endurance so far. Should you ever upgrade strength and dex, or choose 1? Str gave me bigger damage, but Dex gave me some damage and some defenses so it seemed better. I use the axe still that comes with my bandit character.
Imo dont look up builds, if you read the descriptions and put even the smallest amount of thought into what youre doing, youre going to be fine. As has been said a few times earlier in this thread, people have cleared the game with naked characters, so your build isnt going to be what holds you back. For first playthrough just complete the game without looking anything up as that is the most fun imo.

The defenses you got you get with every level no matter what you put the point into. No stat should get above 40-50 due to severely diminishing returns.
Str will give you more weapon options, but you end up able to use most weapons by 16 str, only the really big ones need more(50, 1 weapon is 58 max). For Dex most need 14 or less(25 max on weapons).
Vit and Endurance should be your main focus at first, up to 40 points in them. Never put points into resistance(ever!), and attunement drops off severely after a while, so stopping at 16, 19 or 23 is best. Upgraded str and dex can work, since some big weapons require some amount of dex, but one of them should be the focus.
Basically everyone goes 40-50 vit and 40 end, then one of str/dex/int/faith to 40-50. Just get enough str/dex to use the weapon you want at first, until you decide on your favorite weapons and which way you want to go.
I would recomend against it, the first time I played Demon's Souls I didin't have any idea what I was doing and it made the game alot harder but it was also alot of fun. Looking at your levels up you seem to want to focus on physical damage so when you find a weapon you really like you can look at what stat it scales more with, strength or dexterity and go for that as a main focus.

These ghosts are actually other players currently exploring the same area. Touch bloodstains and you'll see how they die. It's a really cool effect IMO.

holy shit!! that's awesome, thanks for the explanation.

Additionally, the orange wood/chalk writings on the ground are from other players (well, once you get out of the asylum, which you have). If that wasn't already painfully obvious from how trolly some are. Some are amusing, some are random, but some can be very helpful, revealing hidden paths or enemies. Keep an eye out.
What you mentioned about having no idea where to go does indeed happen a few times throughout the game. But honestly the most I was ever lost was after I first landed at Firelink. Once you get into undead burg the game is fairly straightforward if you pay attention to cutscenes/NPCs well enough. Don't be afraid to 'Talk' to anyone you run into.

yes, I realized those are play written after a few troll messages. I did waste about 5-10 minutes searching for the 'hidden ring ahead' ~_~
lol, this game is addicting I want to get off work and play!

Yeah I think youd be better off doing exactly the opposite of what all the messages say. Quite frequently I find messages advising me to use exactly the wrong type of fighting style to use vs a specific boss, dem troll meng dem trolls...

The only "real" usefulness I find out of them anymore is, as I mentioned, a couple laying in front of hidden areas/fade walls on subsequent playthroughs. I still read almost all I happen to pass over though, out of habit. They can be quite funny.

I'm on and lvl 56 if you still need help, though I don't know how to transfer stuff.

If you are playing for story and experience just do whatever. However, you need to read builds as stats points become very important later on. If you have too much points in one category, it gives diminishing return once you pass a certain number.

Iaito R2 is more aesthetic than functionality. The 1H R2 can be easily dodged and you will be wide open for back stab or get crushed by 2H str weapon. The R2 is useful in PVE as long as you aggro a whole bunch of mobs then just draw cut them all.
