ENB challenge (no levelin, only starting equipment, no shield, no covenants, no summons, no healing in bossfights, no elemental upgrade path) 25/26 complete. Playing as a warrior.
+ Show Spoiler + Damn Gwyn is hard for me with these rules, propably will keep trying to do 4 hand-parries in a row.(managed 2 so far, like 25+ tries)
About other bosses
S&O: 1st "hard" bossfight. Went in with 10% hp and red tearstone ring. Couldn´t beat them with +10 sword so came back later and beat them on the first try with a +15 one.
Bed of Chaos: So turn out you can make this bossfight even more horrible than it usually is. Got lucky once and managed to destroy the other side. Took many tries.
4Kings: Fight I feared the most starting this. Easiest fight in the entire playthrough. Made it on the first try. Had enough dps to kill one at a time with red tearstone ring. A bit lucky they didn´t use any spells, though.
Nito: Did not expect to have this much trouble with this guy. The "no healing" rule caused me to lose 50% hp when falling down to the arena and killing those 3 skeletons while managing to remain below 10% for the ring to activate was a challenge.
Kalameet, Artorias, Sanctuary Guardian, Manus: putting these 4 together as they are pretty similar when it comes to overall strategy. Dodge everything perfectly. Did not have the silver pendant for Manus. Took many tries. Many. Tries...
Demon Firesage: Took only 4 tries but gets the douchebag award for fireblasting my face when I entered the room.
Centipide Demon: So turn out this guy has an attack where he shoots fireballs out of his back. Had not seen it before after so many playtroughs.

so, I'm still fairly new to the game. I just killed gaping dragon and got A LOT of souls (for me at least). Around 40k. Question is, what to do with it? I wear all pieces of the elite knight set and was lucky and got the steel armor. current weapon is a +5 club (cause of the A strength scaling). the dmg is pretty good, but the range is kinda limited. any suggestions for a decent follow up weapon or should i stick to the club and bring it to +10? or invest the souls in armor upgrades? or just lvl up (lvl 34 atm) and keep my equip as it is? I'm a bit lost

Upgrading weapons, then armor, then soul level (barring weapon/spell requirements) is best.
Don't worry about your weapon's power, they're all pretty balanced. As long as you upgrade anything will do. Go for the moveset you like.
|
If you are at gaping dragon, you can't get large shards for souls yet, so you don't really have a choice because you can't level your weapon further. Armor upgrades are not that useful, try out a few different weapons to see which you like and get one of those to +5. Generally speaking, always prioritize weapons. After that, soul levels, and then maybe lateron get a few armor upgrades, or get those with shards you find and dont need for weapons.
|
I agree with simberto, armor upgrades arent very useful. Weapon upgrades should always have your priority. Souls levels are pretty good too though, having a bunch of endurance and vitality will make the game a whole lot easier ( in a good way), and having high strengh or dexterity ( you dont really want to go higher than 40) will give you some good extra damage.
And its true the weapons are pretty balanced, if you like a weapons moveset, go for it.
|
Any suggestions on what kind of upgrades are good? Or are they balanced as well?
|
In general you want the normal upgrades, the elemental upgrades are generally for low level builds with a couple minor exceptions. Just don't get raw and it will be fine.
|
Elemental for your first weapons, normals once you got some stats for the weapon.

I have been looking for fanfiction or such on Dark Souls, knowing the depth of DS I thought it would be easy to come by but I was wrong.
Anyone has heard of any fan made lore development or so ?
I mean DS' lore is one of the most incredible I have encountered despite playing tooons of RPGs. I'm very surprised despite the kind of "cult" following there would be no fan fictions out there.
And now that iam at it, Namco/bandai should do some books/manga about Dark Souls. would buy them straight away.

Just played up to smough and ornstein. I've hear terrible terrible things about this boss so I think I'll call it a night lol.

Thankfully though, that bossfight is really easy to get summons for, which you definitely should do.

Disagree. Don't get summons. Learn the fight yourself, and you will feel so much more satisfied once you finally complete it.

I'm so torn on the bossfights. Alone they're incredibly hard (hey, I'm still a noob at the game). But when I get a summon, they're suddenly bloody easy and I tend to make it in the first try. That's some borked up game balance, and I have no idea whether I should hate or love it.

There's no real proper way to balance it really. If you were to add extra moves, then people playing solo would be left out. Adding health and damage is the only way to do it really. I can't think of a game that manages to balance the same game for both multiplayer and solo properly.

i just started playing this, its really fun.
I kinda got stuck right at the start against this black knight guy guarding an item, but then i figured out i just need a better shield so his attacks do 0 damage against my block and then i finally killed him in one of my longer battles. took me 3 deaths to learn about his 4 attack sequence that he can interrupt without recovery after 2 attacks.
Guess im not the fastest progresser, but i am rather diligent about learning everything my enemies can do. Except for the taurus demon boss on the bridge, that jumped too his death in my first fight against him xD

Just a quick tip: Feel free to just ignore some of the harder enemies and come back for them later. The game isn't exactly linear in that regard.

That's usually just the case when the person you summon is well geared and/or experienced. In which case it does become very easy. If you're having trouble on a fight and you summon someone that's at a similar level to your character, it can be a ton of fun. Then again, this is mostly S&O, where there's two guys to worry about and a lot to manage and think about. Against single bosses it's often just easy.

That screenshot made me wonder.. What happen if you bring both Ornstein and Smough to very low life, and then swing on them at the same time ?
