It's like ALLLLLL spoilers lol. Just wait til you finish. It's worth it. Great series though.
OK. I have just one question for you; is it recommended for me to to know Demon Souls' story? I am quite a bit confused about things right now; like what is the deal with the whole undead / humanity thing, and of course, the whole souls mechanic (whose' souls? what happens to them when they are consumed?).
No you don't need to know anything about Demon Souls.
Semi-related question.. I love Dark Souls, my game of the year, but I need moreeeeee. I don't have an XBOX or PS3 so I can't try Demon Souls, but are there any other PC Games that have the same feel? I like medieval themed RPGs but I don't keep up with general gaming, only SC2 and Dota2. I've played 100+ hours of skyrim and now dark souls and those are the only real games I've played other than my 'competitive' titles in years.
I want to branch out but most games seem shitty. x_x

Demon souls' story is not connected to Dark souls, it's more a spiritual sequel than true sequel. The lore is also really really open to interpretation.
The undead/humanity thing is one of the simpler ideas, those people with the darksign are cursed and will become undead when they die. Eventually they will go insane if they stay hollow, though it's not really clear if humanity is only a temporary fix or not, though I would lean towards temporary. The fuel for the bonfires is humanity and revives those with the darksign, possibly at the cost of some of its fuel though since the firekeepers all keep huge amounts of humanity within themselves.
The whole souls thing isn't clearly explained. Boss souls give a large amount of souls, so it could just be the overall power of their souls, or they could have absorbed souls from all those who have fallen to them. Souls might have/give some sort of inherent power, since they are needed to etch titanite into weapons/armor and such, and some of the larger lord souls have the ability to be divided, and their power conferred to multiple people.

You can try a heavily modded Oblivion or even Morrowind (there are many graphical enhancements that make it look as good as Oblivion). In particular, there are a lot of combat mods for both games that make fighting far more intricate (in the spirit of Dark Souls).
Also, I hear that Chivalry is neat. Also, there was some game called Mortal Online that I heard about a while back.

Demon's Souls is a PS3 exclusive (downloadable on PSN).

If you played and liked Skyrim, and think it's a bit of what you're searching for, definitely check out its predecessors, Morrowind and Oblivion. Both great games in their own right (especially with the graphical overhauls for Morrowind), but the expansive database of mods for both leaves plenty of room for expansion.
A game that gives the same feeling, IF you have a playstation2 and wish to hunt or download the games Onimusha1-4. To me those games gave me the same about of feeling the dark souls game felt. It can be on PSN tho never checked. But I strongly recommend this game to any one even if its a bazillion years old.
Best Onimusha overall would be 2(This is a must played game in your life bro). 1 and 3 have the same main person, while 2 and 4 are different. Onimusha 1 Controls are really different then your normal controller lay out.
Checked PSN looks like they only have Onimusha 3 and 4. And a shit beat m'up, but not worth it.
Monster Hunter series could be good also. I have only played PSP versions, but they all had only few upgrades from PS2 titles. So... I am sure you can grab some PS2 emulator and run Monster Hunter 2 on it. The only minus is outdated graphic
Best thing you could do, is to grab PSP and run Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Anyway, this game have best fighting mechanic I ever saw in "melee games". First you need to lear how to fight with weapons, then you need to learn how to fight different animals. How to find them in areas, how to hit them and where (because they have many different hit boxes - some have less armor on head, some on bellly ect. You even can cut tails and horns by aiming at them). I have around 500h played on my PSP, and still didn't beat all of the bosses/animals/dragons there.
Ps:And I love Dark/Demons Souls also, I have platinums on both of them on my PS3.
Wow I just saw the video guy working on this trailer a couple of days ago, didn't realize it was being released so soon. Pretty cool stuff. Shoutouts to Dark Souls.
Okay beat the game. Fun game, really captivating. I forgot to do the DLC stuff before I beat the game though, oops. Already flew through Asylum in NG+, but will probably take a bit of a break at Firelink.
So I have been playing Dark Souls my guy is level 17. When is the game going to start being fun? Most of the time it's just: wade through loads of easy bad guys (which takes a good few minutes) then find a ridiculously tough guy and die a few times before you work out their weakness. The time wasting is horrific when you have to go all the way back to fight your way up to the difficult guy. Am I doing something wrong? Is everyone here desensitised to the grind? I spent like 30 minutes getting to a hydra who wasted me in 2 shots.
Also the style of the game is a bit too japanesey for me but I'm sure that's something barely anyone on TL sympathises with me on.
Well, the benefit of dying a zillion times is gaining more and more souls unless you lose them, so even if you're not getting anywhere, you're still being rewarded. Although you can beat the game at level one, there's going to be some places and enemies you're only going to know about through getting to them and most likely dying.
If it looks scary as fuck, maybe turn around :[.
I actually started playing again. I'm making a new PvP character, A MOTHER FUCKIN' TRI-MAGE. The build is done at 99 although I might add in some more levels for attunement slots. Right now I have 3 pyro, 1 sorc and 1 faith although in reality those are the only good spells really. Sorcery spells are kinda trash and Wrath of God is only decent offensive faith spells.
