If it looks scary as fuck, maybe turn around :[.
I actually started playing again. I'm making a new PvP character, A MOTHER FUCKIN' TRI-MAGE. The build is done at 99 although I might add in some more levels for attunement slots. Right now I have 3 pyro, 1 sorc and 1 faith although in reality those are the only good spells really. Sorcery spells are kinda trash and Wrath of God is only decent offensive faith spells. The dark magic spells are pretty good IMO

Most of the time it's just: wade through loads of easy bad guys (which takes a good few minutes) then find a ridiculously tough guy and die a few times before you work out their weakness. The time wasting is horrific when you have to go all the way back to fight your way up to the difficult guy. Am I doing something wrong? Is everyone here desensitised to the grind? I spent like 30 minutes getting to a hydra who wasted me in 2 shots.
Also the style of the game is a bit too japanesey for me but I'm sure that's something barely anyone on TL sympathises with me on. Hmm... I haven't grinded at all in my 2 playthroughs, or at least it doesn't feel like I'm grinding . And yes, this game is a lot more about patience than about action itself. My first Capra demon kill took me around 30 tries, while with my second character I did it on my first try without any problems. The game just rewards experience and learning a lot, and it's really cool to feel how you progress as a player.
Also, a good way to get more fun from the game is to try and understand the lore behind it. It's really incredibly deep and to figure it out you gotta work with stuff like where corpses with items are placed or the item descriptions and stuff. It's cool, but it takes some extra effort.

Well that sucks, the DLC is really stellar and you owe it to yourself to do it if you managed to get through complete shit areas like new Izalith

Yeah, too good. Dark Bead is totally op so I don't use it. Dark Orb isn't as ridiculous so I use that. Pretty sweet for 16 int.

It was up for 50% off as a flash sale, likely 33% the rest of the holiday sale

Been trying to make a pvp video of my new pure tri-mage
too many baddies though, rarely get a decent fight :[

Anyone know if there is a way to run it in 1680 x 1050 resolution with no letterboxing (black bars on top and bottom of screen instead of just seamless fullscreen) ?

Amazon is prob still the best place to buy it.Got mine the other day for 14.99.That deal ended but its still 55% off

Finally got into buying this and went in with some experience from Demons Souls.
Lets just say that during my last days off from work hours passed quickly and it was often 5am without me realising when playing this.
Been making steady progress and tried to avoid PvP. The one PvP encounter I've accidently had was when I had to summon NPC for Smough/Ornstein fight and someone invaded me. I was effectively hitting the guy for 13ish damage and he wasn't even blocking until he one shotted me with a backstab from a weird angle, wasn't a fun experience that.
Feels like to make the game actually hard one should totally avoid any spoilers and help from friends/internet, but that would also lead into missing out on a lot of stuff.
I hope western major studios man up one day and start putting out games like this.

Easily the best game i've played since some time. There was a lot of grief and teeth grinding, first the port itself is terrible but you can fix it, then my gamepad was not really up to par at the beginning but after few days i managed to get accustomed to it (also using xbox controller emulator). It was a long time since i've died so many times in game But from middle it gets much easier (gear, stats comes into role).
And one of my favorite moments so far was Priscilla fight (i havent finished the playthrough yet).

Hmm, dumb question maybe. I accidentally killed that fat miracle-selling guy, Petrus. When Rhea showed up, her little dudes were aggrod on me, so I went and got an absolution but they didn't stop attacking me. Anything I can do?

you doomed them from completing their quest in the catacombs....I don't think they're going to be to happy with you

Hey!
I have implemented the new DSfix (2.0.1 i believe) but my hud and all the tiny details are very pixelated.
My former fix version use to work properly (1.4) so could anyone help me to fix this or send me a wiki or anything ? Most of the settings are on 0 right now.

The game is really unforgiving to people who use absolutely no outside reference. I had Demon's Souls experience, which means I'm already way ahead of those who had no experience coming in. I accidentally used my Fire Keeper Soul instead of upgrading it, and didn't understand the importance of humanity until I had used way too many for health (instead of lighting bonfires). There are some truly, truly frustrating moments for the unprepared (those stupid frogs that curse you in the Depths), and I quit the game halfway through Blighttown because of how annoyed I was with the swamp.
I loaded up the game again after a year, and I read up on a few starter tips (e.g. Drake Sword, fire souls, Master Key for Valley of the Drakes, etc). I had actually not realized I can kick down the ladder in Undead Burg (wow...) I still don't know any zones beyond Blightown, so I will still explore the rest of the game, but I imagine even there would be extremely difficult for a new player without any outside help.
|
Yeah, thing is, the Drake Sword doesn't really help you get better at the game. Also, the Master Key will just get you in trouble unless you really know what you are doing. Explore at your own pace without a strategy guide; it's a dangerous, darkly beautiful world!
|
Yeah I imagine if you don't know anything the master key is gonna screw you over. Blight town can be hard enough as is but then being dropped in the middle of some sniper death trap?
|
Not knowing but figuring things out for yourself and having that experience is the best part of Dark Souls and outweighs anything you might miss out on.
I wish I could go back and play dark souls for the first time again and again and again.

See, I don't feel like those are starter "tips", so to speak. Those are things you can take advantage of, whether to shorten the game or try something interesting if you're experienced, but all they do is spoil you and teach you the "easier" ways of getting through everything. People who know that kind of stuff (and more, since that's only a short list out of many tricks and tips) on their first playthrough have a totally different experience, and will probably have a hard time not doing that stuff for every subsequent playthrough unless they force themselves not to.
Also more importantly from my point of view, I feel like it would have totally killed the immersion for me.
