They should have clarified ingame what different time units mean for new players. When a spell says 5 turns, they should have changed that to 50 rounds or even better all rounds should have been changed into real time (calculated by taking 30 or X fps into account) in seconds. I don't have a baldur's gate forum account. Can anyone that has post this request there?
It's an AD&D thing. One turn is 10 rounds. I believe the distinction was that spells with a duration in rounds ended just before the intiative count where the spell was originally cast after the duration, where as durations expressed in turns ended at the beginning of the round after the duration expires.

I know it is an ADnD thing, but it should have been made more usable to new players. It is hard to better explain with ingame info how THACO or saves work or armor class, but how rounds and turns work should be easy. Especially since some spells do use hours as their time unit, these rounds and turns should have been converted to seconds or minutes.

THAC0* To Hit Armour Class Zero
Although, if you spell zero as "oh" I guess that O might work in there too

I think they could only add dialogue between each of new NPCs and your character.

Even if they were allowed to, they would probably have a really hard time to get the old voice actors on board, so it would get wierd. I guess they can have new characters talk amongs eachother etc though.

Well at least my money would go to BG2:EE and BG3 so it would be put to good use. Still debating..

I was so used of the old system that I searched for my savegames in the game directory, if anyone is wondering it's in "My documents"
Just wondering what everyone is going for their main character ?

Pretty sure it was explained somewhere in the manuals. Round = 6 seconds, turn = 1 minute. Have you checked the tutors in candlekeep? Maybe they already explain how rounds work for new people. Didn't really talk to them myself.

Firebead trick still works. =P
I hoped they would add some extra content to all those wilderness/forest areas, they drag on so much. But so far until Friendly Arm Inn it's almost 100% the same.

Dual classing Human Fighter into Mage at level 2, although I fucked up by picking up Dagger skill instead of Dart, but there are no Throwing Daggers anywhere early on except in Candlekeep TT

I made a human druid (shapeshifter) called Torin WolfBlood. Werewolf form is more then awesome, better then any lvl 1 fighter and if I need to support with spells I can shift back and use them. Werewolf will let me get few levels easier and then later use spells in combat when I have more of them and they are stronger.

Its a fantastic game, you shouldn't pirate it ever. If you have trouble bringing yourself to give them money, you can always order BG off Amazon That being said, its really not much more then they added in TOTSC which was just an expansion. Personally, I think all of this content could just be modded into the game in the future, I know most the bug fixes and wide screen mods already are.

Personally, cause I play neuteral Evil, I like to take the thief role. You already get Edwin and Veronica for the best mages and clerics if your evil, plus playing a mage SUCKS in bg1... only one spell and you instantly can die to wolves like you were made out of paper,

Nope, pure Mage is super easy in BG1 and it's safer than pretty much any other class when built properly (see spoiler).
+ Show Spoiler + - Max Dexterity, Intelligence and Constitution as third priority if possible. - Pick Find Familiar as first spell. - Pick Darts as weapon skill. - Buy a lot of Darts and Arrows (for Imoen) as you leave Candlekeep. - Summon Dragon familiar and use it to aggro/kite the enemies (they will attack whatever is nearest to them, so you just want to make sure it's always your familiar). - You and Imoen just sit, shoot and kill everything from safe distance while enemies chase the Dragon.
You can do this for a LONG time to clear early wilderness areas, even skipping on Jaheira/Khalid for quicker XP until Bereghost or so. It can get a bit micro intensive at times with a greater number of enemies, but it's fun and payoff in power leveling a Mage is worth it.

Well, that isa fair point. However, I always had an issue where Xan would somehow get ambushed, despite being in the back of the party and instant gibbed... of course back then the pathing was so bad that had to be most of the issue, somehow him walking around a tree took him into a pack of wolves... I would swear hes part dragoon.

Yeah, later on it gets pretty hectic with larger battles (especially interior). But by then you already have a decent arsenal of spells and a player-built Mage will always have more optimized stats than the NPCs. The Familiar alone is worth it, it's got -2 AC and Blur ability, it's like an extra party member that doesn't leech XP. =P
|
I feel stupid as I went again for a kensai or berserker, I just roll some awesome stats (18/00 19 17 10 10 14) and I went from there.
I feel I should try something different for this playthrough but I don't know what, shapeshifter is a good idea for a BG1 char because they stop leveling at lvl 13/14 I think which is definitly not an issue in BG1.
What other classes can be fun to play in order to mix it up and change my experience of the game? I always played a fighter in BG1, a killing machine always...

Yea well. I gave up playing a mage when I realized Edwin was just a superior mage because he had extra spells in addition to having really good stats. Till BG2 and I realized that Sorcerors were BAD ASS.
