It is pretty exciting although wasn't hugely impressed with any of the EE content from a story perspective...Black Pits and general quality of life improvements were very welcome.
Lol at the guy who seems to be arguing hating feminism is a valid point of view. I have finished a party with SCS on insane recently so I just started SoD with it. The game is much more enjoyable with an imported party.
The only thing is that my party is all custom made and I'm worried to miss good dialogs.
BG1 in insane with SCS is still relatively easy. The first couple of chapter are hard and frustrating because you die instantly when you are hit, but as soon as your party gets to a decent level it becomes really ok. I'm now playing BG2 with SCS and nightmare mode, and it's the same thing. Hard at the beginning and almost easier when you reach the underdark (also NM has a lot more xp, so it's a different thing)
SCS is Sword Coast Stratagems, a mod that improves the AI enormously, and make your opponent smart. It makes the game MUCH more interesting.

After buying Players Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide for fifth edition DND, i am craving for some dnd games. They are good inspiration sources for generating campaigns imo. I will change jobs soon and i will have 30 DAYS of freedom before i start at the new place.
I am currently playing icewind dale slowly but i want to finish iwd2, baldurs gate 1,2 and maybe throw in neverwinter nights series for good measure

Now that the dust is starting to settle a bit... How do you feel about the overall writing in SoD?
I've seen people complain about atrocious writing, but it's very hard to tell how many of them are reacting to the drama and how many are actually able to review the thing as a whole.
So far I haven't been too big of a fan with the Beamdog content I've seen. The extra content and new cutscenes in BG1 definitely seemed pretty clumsy at times and the snippets of SoD I've seen don't exactly embrace the strengths of Infinity engine storytelling either. Does SoD actually manage to stay on par with the original saga content?

Go for it!
There are probably other people around wherever you are that would also enjoy some pen and paper fun. My suggestion though: Be open regarding the system. Way too many people think that pen and paper roleplaying games consist only of DnD. Which is a very sad state of affairs considering how many amazing games are out there.
And if you can't find people around you, there are ways to play online, like roll20.net

Also the encounter design, better AI are a plus. Also some cool stuff like more interesting random encounters help.

I thought almost everything they added in the EE sucked, so I'm quite critical, but for now my opinion is that the drama is as much about bad writing as the GG was about ethic in journalism. The writing is until now, very, very good.
That being said I have just got of ducal palace so I don't know how it will evolve.
I'm still playing with a 6 man team, it's probably a bad idea. Thinking of starting again and enjoy the game as it's supposed to be played.

What do you mean about this last part? I'm new to BG and always thought that it was supposed to be played as a 6man party.
Or are you suggesting to limit that for a greater challenge?

If you play with less than 6 man you will just hit level cap earlier.
|
No, I mean, 6 original characters and no PNJ. Powergamers usually create their whole party and don't recruit anyone.
Looks like the devs have experimented a lot with huge crowds, which didn't exist in the original game. I like the idea of BG city being overflowded with refugees, it resonates with todays situation in an interesting way and exploit the infinity engine with modern computers in a way 1998 computers probably couldn't handle..
Now areas are very small, reminds a bit of ToB. I kind of liked huge "empty" areas of BG1, and that seems to be gone for good. That's a bit of a pity imo.

After having solo'd BG:EE on insane as an assasin, trying the new difficulty makes me wanna cry how hard it is.
I can't kill the weakest of enemies without spending a ton on expensive arrows, and this is after I cheesed my way to lvl 4 by rushing to durlocs tower to get 3 levels and got the +2 THACO +1 dmg bracers by using an oil of speed potion and kiting forever....
