As a hardcore BG fan, i really want this but $20 is price of expansion set. One new adventure(arena sounds like its mostly mindless fighting), 3 new npcs, widescreen mod, and bug fixes seems like they just did the least amount of work possible to
milk a classic series. I almost want to pirate this game out of spite.

Good thing I decided against getting this ages ago. This is just a pathetic attempt at milking a beloved franchise.

The 30 Fps cap is KILLING me. I actually just played BG2 at 60 FPS in anticipation for this game (wanted the BG experience, but didn't want to play BG1 since I was going to play it again anyway).

Starting at low level and playing at half speed makes me feel like im playing at a snail's pace. It's hard to stomach. I know starting a low level can't (and shouldn't) be avoided since it's the beginning of the series, but man, that is already hard enough, but now I have to deal with rounds taking twice as long and I get 1/2 to 1/3rd as many attacks and no spells to really cast (your mages have about 1 spell to cast per day at the beginning)... it's rough. However, there are a few forum posts on people stating that the devs are aware people want over 30, so hopefully it will be added eventually.

The full screen resolution is very very nice I will admit.

The game is pretty buggy so far though. Nearly every time I try to put notes on my map I hard crash. I also crashed a few times just leaving a room.

If they fix the FPS cap, and fix the weird bugs, I would say it's a solid release. Regardless, I can't be mad at throwing money at anything regarding the computer Baldur's gate games. However, I am a little disappointed, and I may very well buy the GoG (good old games) version of Baldur's gate 1 just cause I can play it at higher FPS and it's not nearly as buggy.

I'm liking it. The widescreen looks really good. Character sheets, inventory and interface are streamlined and look very smooth. Tooltips and info has been updated/improved. No bugs so far for me.

Dunno what hotkeys previous poster needs. Everything has a hotkey in this game and you can assign hotkeys as you like.

@blackout: Yes you can but then you need to research mods you want and mod it yourself. Also you will not get additional goodies.

Why the heck did they cap FPS at 30?

Does this edition of BG1 have all the fixes that are in Baldur's Gate Tutu and all those fix packs that were released for it?

If I remember correctly, it's because Infinity Engine time is based on frames. In the original games, you could increase the FPS, but it would also increase the overall speed of the game. You could go up to 60, but then your characters would just blitz around, making it difficult to do anything in real-time mode.

You might be able to change it in config/options, or they might have locked it to 30 to avoid the issue altogether.

Seems to be quite a mess according to the official forums, a ridiculous amount of threads about the game not starting, crashing constantly or stuttering badly. Which is wierd because one of the beta testers on the forums claims he only ever experienced a single crash during beta, which was fixed.

Beamdog is playing a pretty dangerous game. I realize they want to release it since it has already been delayed a lot and people are on their asses, but if people buy it only to find a buggy version of BG1 with few enhancements, there will be a ton of complaints and they will lose their shot.

Also, you can apparently change framerate in Baldur.ini.

Well I didn't have any problems with the game so I guess I am lucky :D
Also it is hard to tell how many people actually have problems. Only devs can know that. I looked at forums and there are complaints but not overly so. Also many complaints were about not being able to download (I downloaded 2.5h later then release and barely got to play before needing to sleep).

Have you ever looked at any forum for any game? There is a technical issues forum for every game out there.
There is always threads from people who have issues. People who don't have issues don't post there obviously.

I find it funny how the same people here try to keep finding reasons for not buying it every other page. Just don't buy it and move on...

Seems to be some of the crashing is due to missing microsoft runtimes, which is quite classic. Beamdog can at least fix that very easily by including those in its installer.

I'm not trying to find reasons not to buy it (and I'm not going to, don't worry, I already bought BG1 twice). Just looking at what people have posted here and on the forums, don't see the problem in helping people getting it to run better (especially since everyone on the last page whined about 30 FPS limit, when it can actually be changed in an .ini file).

As for your comment about any forum for any game, no. Look at the PC forum for BGEE and tell me any forum for any game has as many bug reports. Seems that most problems are quite easy to fix and will be solved by beamdog more or less immediately, but there's no question that the release was kind of rushed.

Just bought it 3 hours ago and been playing since, very much enjoying the feel of it, there are just enough new additions to keep things interesting, and I like how they have kept the look of the weapon and armor sprites from BG1 but on BG2 character sprites. Just had my first crash though but the 3 hours gameplay before that was fantastic

I don't find the 30fps thing annoying at all either, it's relaxing to play a game at this old fashioned pace I feel.

Those games have been out for a while and still daily bug reports and issues. Multiply that by a thousand on release day. Don't tell me you have never seen a technical support forum before. That's no indicator for anything.

If you have a bug and want help or know how to fix it sure, go ahead and share. But you are actually judging the functionality of a game based on posts in a technical support forum??

Everyone who doesn't have a problem doesn't bother going into forums saying it's all fine. As I stated myself I haven't encountered any bugs so far with loading, launching and playing 5 hours into the game.

There is one thing that irritates me with BGEE but it can be fixed for future. They should have clarified ingame what different time units mean for new players. When a spell says 5 turns, they should have changed that to 50 rounds or even better all rounds should have been changed into real time (calculated by taking 30 or X fps into account) in seconds. I don't have a baldur's gate forum account. Can anyone that has post this request there?

Just on the main menu screen now - clicked on 'store' and it seems you have to buy the new characters in order to play as them? Neera and another character? I thought they were included in the package! very disappointing!

They are included on PC version. On iPad and android tablets you get the game without them for 10$ and can buy extra content like NPCs and Black pits for 10$ more.

Do the new npcs interact with old ones? By interacting i mean dialogue , banter, love/hate and stuff like that.
