Will it be possible to import the character file into a regular version of BG2/ToB? That alone will pretty much determine whether I get this or not.

I was going to replay the entirety of Baldur's Gate for a while anyway, but I don't want to wait for BG2 extended edition to be able to continue with the BG1 character. I'll just stick to the originals then.

It will not. But the game just has a simple launcher (exactly like the SC2 one) for updates and that's it, no third party program. You should buy it anyway

Nah, then I'll just play the original. I want to try and limit myself to Steam, GoG and Blizzard games.

This launcher is more simple then GoG. It is basically a standard game installer that can also check for new version of game. It shuts down once the game is started (unlike Steam).

It will probably if you don't have any new stuff with your party (new classes, NPCs or items).

If someone hasn't ever played BG1 and 2 then I imagine the enhanced edition will be quite a lot of fun. Assuming you can put up with the dated graphics, of course. The real reason you should play through BGEE though, is to prepare yourself for the inevitable remake of BG2, which is hands down one of the greatest rpgs ever made. Still to this day the main villain of BG2 remains the best I've ever seen in a game.

Also, I'm not sure why some people are angry about the remake. I view it as a purely positive move for the series. Plus it's clearly a labor of love on the developer's part. It's not like remaking an oldschool hardcore rpg is bound to make you rich beyond belief or anything, they're just updating a classic for the fans.

I kinda wish more developers would remake their classics. Cough cough Final Fantasy 6 and 7. (no voice acting though, please)

FF7 was remade just a few months ago, where have you been bro?

And I would like to say, for the record, that I'm not mad at all about BGEE, I'm just not impressed by the video and I'm surprised people aren't critical. When this thread started, when BGEE was announced, the main thing people DIDN'T want was a slightly updated version which would be made more so for iPad than PC. It seems to be the case, very much so, yet now, people are suddenly really enthusiastic about it, which I find weird. I guess people just got used to the fact that they won't do anything special, and then turned enthusiastic as release got closer. Personally, I expected extremely little, and I got about as much as I expected. I find it really weird that they still use that outdated crappy inventory, those were the things I were hoping would be vastly improved.

I am critical and have been so recently in this thread. But, if the awesome infinity engine modders get onboard with this then I will too. I have not looked into what this remake offers to modders yet. I will read up on that if I can tonight, and if it offers new modding options then I will buy it and have a go at making a mod or two.

I know earlier in development developers were talking about the game making it easy for players to turn on different mods without going through the previous tedius install routine. I am not sure if that was implemented but that alone would make is so much easier for everyone.

I wish it was on Steam as well but, I'm still going to get it. Mostly just for the new content, looks interesting.

Does anyone know what time the game is suppose to be released? All I can find is the release date of 11/28, but nothing on the actual time.

That's really cool, I didn't expect mods to work at all with this version. If they make it easy enough for modders to move on to BGEE and give them new options, that's honestly the biggest "good thing" about the rehash IMO.

People who don't want to spend money on this, that's fine of course. But I will because:

Messing around with 20 different mods is time and stress I don't want. I'm prepared to pay for a tested updated version of BG that works without me doing anything.

They have ported it to the iPad.

They are charging what I think is a fair price for the product.

The money I spend may encourage them to port other titles like Icewind or Planescape.

This may introduce what are some amazing games to a new audience.

That's just my own feelings.

I'd love a rehash of Arcanum, the interface for that game was terrible.A shame because it was an interesting concept.

Combat was a joke, graphics weren't all that great, but everything else was incredible. My favourite game of all time.

As for BGEE, I just saw that even if you download the game you can't play it. I guess everyone is slowly learning from Blizzard...

A rehashed Planescape would make more sense than both Arcanum and BG1. It is not only superior but it could also use a rehash the most out of all those titles. PT was unfortunately so bugged and clunky that even mods couldn't fix all the issues.
Time is precious. Waste it wisely.
