How much did you like DA:O? This game inspired DA:O. Are you sensitive to old graphics? Check trailer first. Do you like rpg systems with more depth then all modern rpgs together? How much do like free exploration? Good storytelling? Challenging combat? Awesome NPCs? Do you know all future bioware games just copied the story from this game and changed it around a bit?

But it's one of those games i just can't play anymore. Maybe it's just me, but i have zero hype about this. I may buy it just to raise up the stats on how well a old school RPG would sell.

Would it be fun to play for someone who'd have no nostalgia value? That really depends how open you are towards games that lack many things that are standard in modern games. Baldur's gate doesn't offer much comfort, but it tells a fine story and has a lot of depth if you're willing to explore beautifully painted regions. I'd say everybody who likes gaming should have tried a Baldur's Gate Style RPG, because these games are legendary for a reason, but they're certainly don't fit everyones taste.

I love the concept of them "enhancing" it, though. More games should do it.

I'm losing interest in most modern games, so I might plop some money for this just for shits and giggles. I would rather play an old system I'm familiar with than waste time with the learning curve of a new game that turns out to be shallower.

Have to first research which mods are essential and absolutely needed, where to get them, how to install, which mods are too advanced, which mods work with each other and all that for a 12 year old game just to get it running. Well, you can get BG1 + TotSC for 9.99 on GOG and run it just fine on W7. In addition, they also provide the links and step-by-step guide to getting BGT-WeiDU up and running with very little hussle. So, all things considered, for $20 you can get BG1->BG2: ToB with bugfixes, improvements, cut content put back into it etc. (or you can just play both original games with all expansions for this price). How is getting just a bit enhanced BG1 for the same price even a good deal (especially if you already own the original)?

It's the same with all games which are rereleased, like the new PC version of FFVII or the DS version of Chrono Trigger. It sells because people buy their old favorite games again.

I want more old school RPGs, but i can't just play BG's again (i replayed it so so so so fucking many many times). DA:O for example was a quite decent new game with RPG values. And that's the kind of games i want to see in the future.

Most people who aren't already BG1 players will look at it and go "huh, a game which looks like it's 15 years old and... it is, with some new added stuff". Their main target is most definitely people who are nostalgic and want to replay the game, and I'm sure it will sell well, but thinking this will be some huge reinvigoration of baldurs gate is probably erring on the optimistic side. It's the same with all games which are rereleased, like the new PC version of FFVII or the DS version of Chrono Trigger. It sells because people buy their old favorite games again. Where the hell am i vastly overestimating? I stated they are gonna put their feelers out to gauge the market. That's quite the opposite. And as i said as well, there are no reasonable improvements that they haven't done that would fit into the budget or let them sell it at a price range of 15-20 Dollars. The amount of stuff they would have to put in to please someone like you or manitou would be a huge misinvestment. You are not their target group. The nostalgic people who want to support the game are gonna be fine and anyone who is interested thru easy accessability and mac/ipad/android compatibility. I think people should know by now that looks isnt half as important as ease of use and accessability. Especially in the pad-era. And btw the infinity engine ages very very well.

What they're doing is basically re-creating the work community put to keep the game alive after they abandoned it. Now that they realized people are still playing it and enjoying it and how some of the mods have improved on the game they decided to get on the cash-cow and release it themselves (for a price). If they really wanted to create BG3, they would, but no, we're getting a rehash of their old title with improvements that aren't really anything new right now. The only real innovation in it is making it compatible with iPad and similar devices. All in all, it reeks of a big "fuck you" towards the community which popularized and kept the game alive and now they're going to make money on this foundation which took years of effort and voluntary hard work for people. All I can say is "fuck you back, Overhaul Games". I won't explain why the rest of the post is wrong because it has been done in details quite a few times before but just to touch on the bold part: as far as I can tell (ie reading the official forums), the modding community is extremely enthusiast about this Enhanced Edition. A lot of the most "famous" modders out there are already at work to port their mods to the new engine. I would not be surprised if some communities become active again tbh. I have no idea where this "fuck you" idea come from...

Everyone is looking forward to stuff like Project Eternity, which has the potential to satisfy nostalgic feelings while bringing a waft of fresh air at the same time. Now this is something I would be willing to pay for. Paying for something I already have, and have re-played to boredom, not so much (unless the new content amounts to something like a fully fledged expansion). Also, I'm not sure why some people are angry about the remake. I view it as a purely positive move for the series. Plus it's clearly a labor of love on the developer's part. It's not like remaking an oldschool hardcore rpg is bound to make you rich beyond belief or anything, they're just updating a classic for the fans. I kinda wish more developers would remake their classics. Cough cough Final Fantasy 6 and 7. (no voice acting though, please)

Assuming you can put up with the dated graphics, of course. The real reason you should play through BGEE though, is to prepare yourself for the inevitable remake of BG2, which is hands down one of the greatest rpgs ever made. Still to this day the main villain of BG2 remains the best I've ever seen in a game. Also, I'm not sure why some people are angry about the remake. I view it as a purely positive move for the series. And I would like to say, for the record, that I'm not mad at all about BGEE, I'm just not impressed by the video and I'm surprised people aren't critical. When this thread started, when BGEE was announced, the main thing people DIDN'T want was a slightly updated version which would be made more so for iPad than PC. It seems to be the case, very much so, yet now, people are suddenly really enthusiastic about it, which I find weird. I guess people just got used to the fact that they won't do anything special, and then turned enthusiastic as release got closer. Personally, I expected extremely little, and I got about as much as I expected. I find it really weird that they still use that outdated crappy inventory, those were the things I were hoping would be vastly improved.
