Yeah JJ Watt is completely insane. Of course he won't get a whiff of the award. I think they'll give it to Adrian Peterson or some QB. Offensive numbers for QBs are becoming more and more meaningless, though, because the rules and style of the game favors offense and protects quarterbacks. That's why Drew Brees still got another 5,000 yards passing on a sub-par team.

That makes it even more amazing a defensive player can do so much with how easy it is to pad yards as an offense.

And I agree completely. But you must acknowledge that just as the game favors offenses, so do voters and fans, on average. At this rate, I'm sure in five years, sacks will start warranting 15 yard penalties, so JJ Watt will probably be forced to retire.
You fools. I live in Atlanta. Do you know what it's like to make the playoffs every year and lose? Atlanta sports are the ultimate tease Braves, Falcons... expecting to get bounced after the bye week

Yeah, should be interesting to watch two rookie QBs duke it out in the playoffs. It may turn out to be influential in deciding rookie of the year.
I thought things like Rookie of the Year and MVP and the likes were based off of the regular season?
Oh, I didn't know that. But, depending on when they cast their vote, how well they do in the playoffs still may inadvertently affect their impression of the players.

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure ROY is based on the regular season only. Playoff performances aren't weighed into the decision.

JJ Watt deserves MVP. The MVP is a QB/RB award, as we all know, but he definitely deserves that title. He lead that defense, and definitively is the reason that defense was so dominant this year. 65 tackles, 12 assisted tackles, 20.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles (two recovered). That is unbelievable numbers. That's 4-5 tackles a game, and more than a sack a game. I'm tired of seeing the same old shit every year. The seasons flavor running back or quarterback winning the award for getting a lot of yards or something. Not to understate the importance of great quarterbacks or running backs, but it's hard to argue that anyone is playing their position to the level that Watt is playing his.
With that said, if Adrian Peterson wins I'll be content because he is, in truth, the most valuable player on that team and the only reason that team is doing as well as they are. However, I think Watt has done more for his team.
But I'm only the most casual football fan, so I may be overstating his importance here a bit -- I just secretly want a defensive player to win MVP for once lol.
I think he belongs in the conversation, but I think they're still a playoff team without him. Also, the most impressive stat is his batted passes/defensed passes, which was like 12-15 or something last time I saw it (a couple games back), and those are almost as valuable as sacks. Watt was a total beast this year, and what he did is probably the most defensive performance I've personally witnessed parts of, but I think the let downs at the end of the season (losing the #1 seed when it was all but guaranteed if they didn't choke away two of the last three or four games) will cause him to lose that vote.

I feel like I have a different issue living in San Francisco. Our teams don't always get into the playoffs, but they always do damage when they do.

Yea three rookie QB playing in the playoff this year. Luck,Wilson and RG3. That's truly surprising. When was the last time that happened? Or even two rookie QB. On a side note. I just found out Cincinnati is in the playoff also. Another shocker.

God damnit.
You should be more thankful you weren't born in Cleveland
Pretty sure Miami would be the worst. Can't even enjoy baseball or hockey.
Well, nowadays hockey is looking up for them but nonetheless
I'm a Miami fan, and I'm going to say even the 1-15 season was bearable considering they lost 8ish of those games by 3 points or less. The Marlins have won 2 World Series, Lightning a Stanley Cup and are getting better. For Basketball I love Chicago because of Jordan but I didn't mind the Heat until LeBron and Co.

I thought they won something before that.
Yeah, see? That's what I mean. Most dismal sports town in America, maybe on the planet (of towns that actually have professional sports), given that they have several shitty teams.

Lol I agreed with you man, I live here and it's sad how delusional they are when they actually expect to win games every year. Every year Super Bowl and World Series talk, then they're somewhat content with 4-12 or 6-10 because it's the norm here.

You have no idea what its like to be in a state where the teams are a tease. Wild came back 3-1 in the hockey playoffs twice to win the series and then got swept out a round before the stanley cup, They have never been to the hockey playoffs sense. The timber wolves had gone to the playoffs numerous times (7 straight years) and never were able to do anything of note. This is the same state that had the lakers for decades, how well have they done in LA? The twins have gone to the playoffs more often then not from the last time this city even had a title in the town and then more often then not we get bounced in the first round to the yankees. The vikings have had super bowl winning teams twice in the past decade (2001 where we had the best offence ever till moss went to the pats and then farves first year) and we got screwed in the worst feeling way you've ever seen in your life so hard that the team went into decline and had to be completely rebuilt. the vikings have been to 4 super bowls and have never come even close to winning. we've been a game away again from the super bowl twice in the past deacde.
All this and we have to deal with the worst winters in the country.
