That said, I do think that a high second rounder is a fairly steep price to pay for someone like Smith, who will never be a franchise quarterback. You can also argue that with players like Tom Brady and Russell Wilson, not every franchise QB is found on day one (and I guess round two, in this case) of the draft. | ||

Without a doubt, a majority have been taken outside of the top 5 or 10 picks. | ||

I think that the largest takeaway though is that quarterback is one of the most mis-evaluated positions as well as one of the toughest to develop. | ||

But I believe as of several years ago it appeared to be the case that the vast, vast majority of QBs came from the first round, and that later-round QBs were not nearly as successful with very few exceptions, at least as long-term franchise-calibur starting QBs. | ||

Plus he's labeled as a high character kind of guy which is something the KC can use. That being said he's doing nothing to amp up any form of interest in that market. Smith is a decent QB but not a sexy one to the media. | ||

I wouldn't say that. QB is still one of the positions that is more dominated by first rounders. Think of the current elite quarterbacks and only Tom Brady is a huge outlier. The ones that are not first rounders are usually second rounders. Now compare that with running backs and wide receivers, where it's almost pointless to draft one in the first round unless they are insanely freaking good. | ||
