Im in the same boat as many, not played since the PS2 game and when i was like 12 when i got my first YuGiOh deck from Epcot <3 gotta love the japanese area there! Ahaha
But yeah ill join the IRC and just continue to learn myself, i know most the rules but its hard when its all manual i forget, id like some help of course though :D
Any news if theres an automatic version anywhere though? Even though MAN that would be alot of programming t.t for all trap/magic cards and monster effects, but is there no automatic version anywhere?

If we do this i call either rex raptor (dinorabbit) or kaiba (new chaos dragons) It would be by lottery, or some other system, And im thinking you can't include cards they would not have had in their decks (no stardust for kaiba) it needs to be as close to their actual deck the last time they were seen, or any point before that.
I call bakura!!!!
Edit: Ill set some rules and see if you agree to them and ill list all the avaliable characters, When you are assigned your character you have to build a deck with cards they used in the show including any banned cards they used, your allowed to use support cards for their theme of deck but not any that another character is famous for using e.g. Atem ( Yami Yugi) is famous for using mirror force so noone else can use that.
List of characters and usable banned cards:
Every Character: Pot of greed, Graceful Charity. Atem ( Yami Yugi) : Dark magician of chaos, brain control (only person able to use obelisk the tormentor). Yugi : Witch of the black forest, magician of faith. Seto kaiba : Chaos emporer Dragon, Dimension Fusion, Crush Card Virus, Ring of Destruction. Joey: Fiber Jar, Giant Trunade, Sixth Sense. Bakura: Change of Heart, Premature Burial ( only person able to use destiny board) Pegasus: Thousand Eyes restrict, Metamorphisis. Weevil Underwood: None but able to use any Insect cards + support Rex Raptor: None but able to use any dinosaur cards + support Mai Valentine: Harpies feather duster. Mako Tsunami: None but able to use any Water cards + support. Bandit Keith: None but able to use any Machine cards + support. Marik Ishtar: Makyura the Destructor (only person able to use winged dragon of ra). Isis Ishtar: Exchange of the Spirit. Odion Ishtar: Temple of the kings. Big 5 as Tristan: Imperial Order (Only person able to use five headed dragon) Noah Kiaba: Cyber Jar, Tsukuyomi, Yata-Garasu. Gozaburo Kiaba: Painful Choice (only person able to use exodia necros) Rebecca Hawkins: Imperial Order
I think thats basically everyone apart from the paradius duelists and some one off ones.

k. got the hang of it now. and lightsworn/twilight is really starting to grow on me <3 haven't really ran into any of the top tier decks though so we'll see how long that lasts.

So I've played a few games vs randoms to get used to it and xyz monsters honestly seem so imbalanced

It's too bad that the rules aren't enforced in this, I do realize it'd take a lot of work to code something like that, but as it is now, people cheat. Like, a lot.
I was just told that tributing a monster for a synchro summon doesn't count as an actual tribute. What? And having people just ignore certain parts of some cards is pretty common too.

There is a button to call a moderator if someone is cheating. By the way, the person who told you that is right. You don't tribute monsters for synchro summons, you just send them to the graveyard.
The monsters used in Synchro Summoning are treated as neither Tributed nor Destroyed.

Question. There is a card with the text. If this card is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon...
Does that count if its sent from the hand (is it destroyed?) or does it have to be on the field.

Are we talking TV show decks, or the card packs they sold with each of the people on them?

By the way is there rule where you can only attack face up attack cards before you can attack any defensive placed cards?

I was just told that tributing a monster for a synchro summon doesn't count as an actual tribute. What? And having people just ignore certain parts of some cards is pretty common too. Sending synchro materials to the graveyard to synchro summon a synchro monster doesn't count as tributing the monsters. So in that case, your opponent was correct. You can still synchro summon with a monster under the influence of "Mind Control" or with "Mask of Restrict" face up on the field.

cards cannot be destroyed without being on the field, so no you can not special summon it.

And people have stated that rulings are pretty much law but still contest it. It's very confusing. It says it can be comboed with chain destruction to search your deck, which makes no sense if the card has to be on the field.

You're right, you got me there I am completely wrong. I was unfamiliar with that, but I can't find any card besides chain destruction where it destroys cards in the deck and hand though. You know any others? To be clear though, cards should only be destroyed if it specifically says destroy on the effect (or by battle).
EDIT: Found one, Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin, but that is your opponent's hand x.x
