Maybe I'll give it a re-install. I've had such good memories with the older games in the series despite having played maybe less than an hour of multiplayer. If I have to, I'm willing to spend money to upgrade my rig JUST for this game (and all other games I already have) but I'd like to avoid it as much as possible. With me its basically the same. Its frustrating that I cant play like I would like to because of low FPS. Add to that the delay because of playing from Europe and I often look like a terrible shot. Still a great game with a lot of potential. And it really made me think about getting a new PC.
Btw, is there a way to show FPS ingame?
edit: Alright I found it, F9 enables FPS display.

This one honestly.
If you really want you can head on over to mektek and try out the mechwarrior 4 free release(legal if you didn't know) here: http://www.mektek.net/projects/mw4/
If you happen to have Crysis Warhead you can mod it by heading on over to http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/ to see what a fully functioning warfare of the future with mechs, tanks, aerospace fighters, and I believe elementals(armored infantry) looks like.
Otherwise Mechwarrior online is your best bet for free, well done giant robot fix.

Open Beta is starting on Monday. There is still a number of issues with the game though. Hope they will work on them fast.

Gotta say that Hawken is looking pretty awesome. Closed Beta is just opening up this weekend: http://www.playhawken.com/

I dunno, I haven't played Hawken but after seeing some videos it just looks like a mech-themed FPS in a way. MechWarrior on the other hand is definitely not an FPS, it's a mech simulator/game in the truest sense.
Also, MWO open beta will now begin on Monday, October 29, according to their website. So anyone who's interested in this game will be able to play it now!

Open beta is live!! I'm Aym over there!

I'm playing as Apanthropy if anyone wants to add me

I just wish that u could see the mech's current loadoat in more detail be4 u bought it....
like i want to check how many slots it has for certain weapon types so i know what weps i can equip and what it has room for slot-wise.
(for instance if a mech says "ballistic:2" it doesnt always mean that you can fit 2 actual worth it ballistic weapons.
|
What you are describing sounds like you want to know how many total open critical slots a mech has.
|
There should be a forum post somewhere on mwomercs.com that details exactly what every single mech variant has in terms of critical slots, though I do agree they should tell you in-game as well.
|
what are critical slots? how they differ from regular slots ?
I bought Ferro Fibrous armor for my gausscat, i could still put ammo and weapons on slots where it said [armor] (which i assume was FF armor). However it says i don't have enough critical slots for Endo steel. I just have no idea how it all works.
If you haven't tried a gaussapult yet, try it. you won't look back. I almost have enough GXP for improved zoom. Any idea if it's any good? what it does exactly?

critical slots ARE the slots on your mech, they're those "inventory" slots that you use to put on guns, heat sinks, ammo, etc in the mechlab. FF armor and endo steel structure each take 14 of those slots to put on, so 28 in total, and you can hardly do that if you have lots of weapons on your mech already. usually you only use BOTH FF and endo steel on light mechs, cause they have fewer modules and its most useful there, and on heavier mechs most of the time you only use one or the other, since weapons take up so much of the inventory. this is the way with current endo steel and FF at least, later in the game they will probably add CLAN endo steel and FF which will take up much less slots (7 in fact) and you will usually be able to use both even on heavies for huge weight savings and hilarious weapon loadouts.

this is one of the many things that keeps me from enjoying the game, its the kind of quality-of-life improvement that the playerbase has been clamoring for ever since the start of the closed beta and the failure to include it, many other small things, and balance the game in any sensible way have pretty much convinced me that piranha games are completely incompetent. not to mention that game performance has taken a turn for the worse with the passage of time, and not for the better
|
It'd be nice to know what weapon slots are on what areas of the mech.
|
If you have to choose between FF and Endo Steel always take Endo Steel. It saves more weight.

I'm JingleHell if anyone wants to add me.

One other complaint i have atm... right now EVERY single game is turning into... 1 team just camping their spawn with nothing but LRM's.
Like literally all 8 people just standing on the big hills near their base... just waiting for some1 to get bored and walk towards their base...gets really old really fast.

Hah I haven't seen this yet. That sounds incredible rofl

For mech loadouts, most info is available on the forums via handy charts:
+ Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler +
The only information you still need after that is on critical slots which are consistent across all mechs with only a handful of exceptions, mostly in the arms (though these exceptions are important and affect the arm's range of motion as well as their slot count):
+ Show Spoiler +Chassis Section Available Crit Slots Head 1 Center Torso 2 L/R Torso 12 each L/R Arm 8-10 each L/R Leg 2 each
I'd assume there's an exception for the number of critical slots available in the head with the Cicada CDA-2B since it's listed as having 2 laser hardpoints there.

I am guessing this is mainly due to low build variety as people dont have much credits to buy different stuff.
The non-founders mainly use the trial Awesome (maybe the best trial mech) which has 2 LRM15. And the founders use the founders Atlas, which has one LRM 20 at the start. On top of that there are very few mechs with AMS at the beginning, making LRMs even more effective than normal. The result is a lot of assault mechs with LRM on the field.
I am playing the trial Awesome myself to farm up, although I normally never play LRM boat. Will switch to Dragon once I have enough money.

I just signed up for this. Name in game is 0ogyboogy.
Would certainly be interested in playing with more than pubs over the long run.
