Edit: Usain Bolt mech name of the year.
LOL, I was gonna use that for the name of my Fastback once I got enough money to put an XL engine in, but I heard they were nerfing it now

AYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Is it bad I was fuckin' JAMMING while watching your vid? Rofl. Good shit, man
Man this patch borked the look of the game more than any patch I've seen, and I was in the second/third wave of beta invites, ie early june... I love this game but it is rough this week, looking forward to taking the graininess out, hopefully next week.
What's wrong with it? I just played a couple games and the graniness looks the same, lighting effects in general look better. In fact you can even see further on Forest Colony than you could previously. Haven't played the other maps yet though, got Forest Colony 3 times in a row and now have to go for a bit. Then again I'm not playing on highest settings so that could be what you're talking about.
Personally I think founders is worth it. This is coming from someone who loves the game and definitely am getting my money's worth because I'm playing it so much. You get a lot of extra money to spend on mechs/parts, and a founders mech with a custom skin which is cool (if you get the mid-range pack). The open beta may be a ways off still considering what's in the game so far so if you're dying to play then it's definitely worth it. It's a ton of fun imo.
I think the $60 founder's pack is a GREAT buy, tough part is choosing your mech. I love my Atlas and Jenner, and the Catapult is ok, but most people don't love the Hunchback variant option. As for graphics in this patch I think it depends on the rig, some people are noticing just an improvement while a lot of higher end systems are seeing the wicked graininess. I do approve of them clearing up the fog of war effect a bit, but this graininess is killing me.
Why does it seem like so few of your opponents shoot back?
How precise is the shooting/damaging in the game? I.e. if you shoot them in the head can you damage their HUD or something, or if you shoot their guns can you destroy them? If yes, can you reliably do any of this from a distance?
Looking forward to open beta or release. Seems like they've been delaying it for a long time; hope the wait is worth it!
I didn't watch the whole video but generally there's multiple enemy mechs that will be in your line of fire/engaging you at any given time, and some can take awhile to bring down, so depending on what enemy mechs people decide to focus and what not you won't always necessarily have someone you're shooting at shoot back at you. Like for example if you're on a long-range missile mech and there's an Atlas (giant assault mech) on the other team out in the open threatening to move up into a key spot that you don't want him at, you'll still want to be firing at him to pin him down or deal damage when he's exposed even if there's a smaller/lighter mech harassing you who's right up close. Yeah you will take damage but it's a tradeoff that you have to choose to make. That's a super obvious example but there's always a lot of choices that you're forced to make when it comes to what you should be shooting at, and especially since most mechs don't go down in just 1 or 2 shots, those decisions of target selection can be pretty important.
I don't think the HUD can be damaged, but there's many different parts on the mech that if you focus can cause critical damage and kill it more quickly than if you did general overall damage. The head and back of the mech are both not as armored as the front torso, so they take damage more easily and can be incapacitated more quickly if you focus areas like that. You can also blow off arms (they lose any respective weapons, ammo, or heatsinks on their arms if they get blown off), cripple legs, and damage any torso weapon/heatsinks to be non-functional if you focus it enough. Ammunition can also explode, causing a lot of damage, if it's being stored in an area on the mech that has taken heavy damage and taken off armor.
It's harder to do all of that from a distance, because depending on the weapon, its effectiveness can drop off if it's too far out of range, or its flight-time can be hard to aim properly if it's a large caliber auto-cannon, but it's entirely possible and done if you are good enough.
EDIT: after watching more of the video it looks like most of the people not shooting him are either shooting at one of his allies that are off-screen, or are just bad and missing him (like that Atlas earlier in the video on the desert map) :p
Aiming really isn't that hard if you have any fps experience whatsoever. But pretty much everything can be blown up, ammo, weapons, jump jets, heatsinks, the mech itself. HUD can't be damaged though.

Problem is the delay though between firing and the weapon actually going off. Especially with cannons.
Still this is a great game. Having a lot of fun. The different weapons, possibilites to configure your mech etc mean this game has much more variety than comparible games like World of Tanks. Also not as dependent on grinding as WoT. One should be able to play this competetively without having to pay absurd amounts.

Thats only the case if you play from Europe. But yes, that can cause issues if you have high ping. And definitely on the grinding part, a jenner is pretty cheap and is the best mech in the game as far as I'm concerned. The netcode improvements in the last patch have hurt it some, but I still think its the best (not counting the gaussapult of course.)
My PC terribly handles this game. Sub-10 FPS with invisible walls/objects or at the very least saying "shader shader shader" instead of being colored. *Sigh*
Maybe I'll give it a re-install. I've had such good memories with the older games in the series despite having played maybe less than an hour of multiplayer. If I have to, I'm willing to spend money to upgrade my rig JUST for this game (and all other games I already have) but I'd like to avoid it as much as possible.
