Really? I think Boston is much classier than Vancouver. When a Boston player does something super dirty they usually have no problem settling it right then and there... thing is everyone else is too scared to rumble with the biggest and baddest team out there and the rule kind of discourage player retribution.

It is a shame because it lets weasels like Kesler, Burrows, Marchand, and Buttercup run the show.

Its kind of a shame.

If you think Kesler and Burrows are the same type of Marchand, then your a nut.

He gets 5 games xD

You're right, I am a nut to group them together. Marchand atleast has the balls to stand up for himself after he has done something stupid, whereas Burrows and Kesler turtle like little girls.

Both guys have made plays just as if not more suspect than the one Marchand made on Salo, difference is now the league is cracking down and before the league didn't give a fuck. Both Kesler and Burrows are kings of throwing chinzy elbows and knees, and taking runs to hit guys after the play. I know you adore them, but they have a reputation with the rest of the league as weasels for a good reason.

I'm not saying that you have to fight after every big hit you throw, but I am saying that you can't take the sneaky road all the time. Eventually you get a reputation, and your boys have a reputation whether you like it or not.

Examples of Burrows and Kesler constantly throwing dangerous hits?

Winner: Calgary Flames - The struggling franchise continues to draw comparisons to the 2008 Maple Leafs, which is great news since it means they're only a few years away from being able to trade all their worst players to the Calgary Flames.

It's funny but any team in the league would probably love to have Burrows or Kessler, and in the playoffs probably Lapierre.

I would hate it if my team got Burrows or Lapierre. No joke.

I would jump up and down with joy if we got Kesler tho, rofls.

Biting someone's gloved finger is nothing. It was just some stupid incident that got blown out of proportion by the media.

Kesler and especially Burrows are every bit as aggravating and pesky as Marchand. Burrows is a little cheap shotting shit who bites people, takes runs, dives frequently and loves to throw sneaky little spears and elbows. At least the other two have the spine to fight from time to time.

also 5 games is way too much for what Marchand did. Shouldn't have been more than 2 or 3

If Marchand didn't already have a suspension from this year Shanahan would've probably only given him those. The NHL is responding to media pressure with their repeat offenders. I do wish there was more clarity on suspensions, like Marchand got 2 or 3 games for clipping and +3 or +2 games for being a repeat offender within a year. Not that I think that's how it was but it would be nice to see so we can all have a feeling of clarity and consistency.

When talking about the Stanley Cup Finals last year. Both teams did what they thought would help them win the game, they're competitors. Singling out specific examples doesn't change that or really anything. Your not going to convince a Canucks fan that Burrows needs to fight everytime you feel he does something underhanded or a Bruins fan that Marchand needs to clean up his game or someone will "get him".

"Burrows doesn't run and hide behind a 9'2" player after he's "engaged" with someone like Marchand does - that's the ultimate lowdown dirty. Burr dishes it out but he's also prepared to take it, which makes it somewhat different (ever see him being crosschecked in front of the net?). As well, he was a nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, awarded for perseverance, dedication and sportsmanship. "

Debluvscanucks from CDC would like a world with you.

Biting someone who sticks his finger in your face who is wearing a glove big deal.

And maybe you don't know this, but every team have special people coming in teaching them how to dive. It is a bit ridiculous, but everyone does it. Teams practice it. You feel a stick in your feet? you fall, this is a known fact.

Tons of players always throw cheaky spears and elbows, why might you ask? Because they can get away with it, because they do it inconspicuously to draw a penalty.... Ever heard of Ron Hextall? Chris Pronger? 2 very respected people in the NHL.

You wanna go in front of the net with Chris Pronger on the ice, expect to pay the price in front of the net by a spear to the gut or punch to the back of the head, this is hockey a physical sport. ... It's just part of the game.

A soft punch to the back of the head or spear to the mid section is gonna hurt for a day, these players are athletes and can handle it. These are not direct intents to injure... You don't like it? Go watch basketball..

To single out one or two players who do it is stupid when EVERYONE does it if they can get away with it.

There a certain lines smart players know not to cross.. Brad Marchand still thinks he was defending himself. Hope this pre madonna gets dummied one day.

Oh and btw, Mike Milbury is a complete douchebag and left CBC for awhile for beating up a little kid like a month ago. LOL

If only he actually beat up a little kid, LOL

Seriously, he was defending his own son and grabbed the kid, shook him a little and swore at him. Beating him up was just the media throwing things out of preportion.

Last time Marchand missed a game the Bruins only scored nine goals

No big deal, the Bruins rolled the Jets in the 3rd for a final of 5-3 and will probably win atleast 3 out of the next 4. No Marchand? No biggie.

Best 4th line in the NHL, the ability to roll all four lines is why the Bruins are such a dominant team.

The Marchand hit....

He'd not have gotten anything if Salo had popped right back up unhurt.

I'm sick of the NHL punishing for the consequence of an act instead of the act itself.

Where in the rules does it say that hip checks are illegal?

Salo didn't have the puck and Marchand no attempt to play the puck. As much as I don't care for the suspension length, that is a pretty easy interference call.

The Marchand hit....

He'd not have gotten anything if Salo had popped right back up unhurt.

I'm sick of the NHL punishing for the consequence of an act instead of the act itself.

Where in the rules does it say that hip checks are illegal?

They are not. He was suspended for clipping...

Did you actually hear Shanahans reasoning?

Brad Marchand showed signs of frustration prior to that engagement on that shift by punching Salo in the back of the head twice and giving him a wack, thus determining it was a malicious hit, and intent to injure.

Clipping: Clipping is the act of throwing the body from any direction across or below the knees of an opponent. Player's are not allowed to deliver a clipping hit below the knees of a player.

I did hear Shanny's reasoning, and although I do like the overall tougher approach he has taken, I'm not with him on this one.

I don't argue that it's an interference call, but there's room to argue about the clip. Salo is 6'3, marchard is 5'9.

I don't believe that the correct way to police the league is to punish based on severity of injury, or by trying to discern a player's intent. You need clear rules (with min-max levels of punishment) for everyone to see, in black and white, that players can see and adjust to accordingly.

They fit under the same category. -_-

It's funny because the Star just did an article on all of them.

Hitting a person at or just around the knees when he shouldn't be expecting a hit without the puck is most certainly clipping
