You can join the guild for guild chat. =) You can still ping your findings to guild chat. Asking/answering questions or discussing mechanics etc. is also nice. I personally started in trade but my playthrough has been SSF so far, also slow, listening to dialogues, full clearing areas etc. Having guild chat has still been a nice addition. =)

Got ya, keep going, you can do it! =) Unfortunately I cannot give any advice what helped me because I haven't played a caster yet.
If it helps, I am running a lightning sorc. I went Chronomancer which has helped with survivability (via having essentially an additional dodge/flask) so if you went with the other one I have no idea.
I ran spark/firewall/orb for most of Act 1, but by the time I unlocked Arc I ended up converting to just Arc. I believe most of Act 2-3 I just used Conductivity and then spammed Arc nonstop. Chronomancer time rift let me restock mana after casting curse and was essentially a "whoops I got hit hard lemme rewind that" button. The only two upgrades I really got damage-wise was finding a +3 spells staff in the store at some point, and then getting a rare version of a +3 spells staff from drop that has 90% spell damage (basically doubled my DPS).
Sorcs are squishy as usual which is why I've been finding Time Rift hella clutch. If you went the other ascendancy and are not seeing a notable damage bump you might have to just gitgud for survivability heh.
I'm in A2C now and have been rolling smoothly with Arc only getting upgrade via gem level - most of my gear upgrades have been to resists on other pieces. I think damage scaling sucks but it is what it is. I eventually also got Lightning Warp for map clear and I've eventually added Cast on Shock Conduit for a little bit more damage, but most of the damage comes from Arc. I also have Comet slotted just for shits and giggles but... it's almost all just Arc.
Been trying different chars on standard, but playing as ssf. Have been using the currency while leveling, but it\s not as good as advertised (one of the bigger gripes so far). Anyway, look forward to getting carried through the tougher content ^^
Tbh, I'm really glad I don't feel the need for a loot filter at all atm. and this is how it should be. The only area where I would find a loot filter helpful would just be to highlight certain drops (e.g. items with sockets, quality) by increasing the font a bit or giving them an outline.
the neversink filter is pretty light and you can edit manually (notepad) if you want. I reduced the font size and sounds a decent amount - having sockets and off screen highlighted is nice

I would have to look at it, to see how "easy" it is. I had to spend hours to get the neversink filter in poe anywhere near to where I didn't find it too intrusive. I friend sent me some pictures of the PoE2 one and it was definitively too much for me. And because right now I don't feel like needing one, even a fairly minimal amount of work wouldn't be worth it for me for the small benefits it would provide to me. But that's just my opinion atm. and it comes from someone who even played PoE without filter until like 2 years ago or so.
The current one is only 2 pages long in notepad. I use it because it better highlights drops (and has some drop sounds/map effects) and then edited it to hide most of the white and blue item types (there's a stub at the bottom for that).
I'm in maps now on my 2nd char, but I'm pretty close to just stopping for awhile. I'm still finding the game really sluggish and boring and the progression close to nonexistent. Loot is noticeably better in maps than the campaign, but actual paths forward feel very limited. The overall defensive options in the game right now feel abysmal relative to incoming damage and it feels like we're mostly just going to have to wait for future updates.
Still having fun with my Merc. Just got my Witchhunter Ascendancy. Is it worth it to run Ascendancy multiple times for the loot? Or is it time wasted. I got a bunch of Trial coins lying around. Hardest fights so far were the huuuuuuuuge Automatonstatue (almost made me quit right then and there) and end boss act 2 which got doable after some upgrades.
Meh this game wasn't for me at all. Feels very slow, clunky and frankly not much fun. The atmosphere, music and overall feel was amazing, unfortunately the gameplay falls short for me.

I honestly don't think it's worth it to run multiple times. The difficulty just seems too high for the rewards. But I might be wrong...
What Automaton Statue are you talking about? The one in the Titan's Cave?
It's always fascinating to me how different people enjoy different playstyles. I started a Merc the other day and had a horrible time with it. The downtime where you and the enemy are just staring at each other because they are staggered and you are reloading was annoying me to no end. The handling also felt weird, both with WASD (not a fan at all) and mouse + keyboard (even worse for merc). I quit at level 11 and started a sorc, which reached lvl 11 in half the time...

Hey, I'm very sorry to hear that. Also because I kinda baited you into buying the game.
Mercenary has a few different playstyles depending on how you build it. The slowest is probably going heavy into grenades, which plays a lot more like traps/mines with the delayed damage. For crossbow ammos, you can get a lot of reload speed from the passive tree, gems, and attack speed (though I've heard local attack speed is bugged) to the point where there's a pretty minimal delay. I've mostly seen this used effectively with the big clip ammo. There's also the more shotgun type of build where you have to reload every couple shots that's somewhere in between those.
One of my big gripes with crossbow ammo is the lack of a UI indicating the currently equipped ammo and the remaining bolts. This is sorely needed because there are ways to get % chance to not consume a bolt. With low bolt ammos your movement is more fluid pressing the button the right number of times compared to holding down the button, but you can't know if you've shot every bolt without either looking at the skill bar or trying to identify the slight reload animation.
Between that and all the linked issues (like ammos failing to switch and dry firing) crossbows can end up pretty clunky in practice. I found trying to combo the different ammos very unsatisfying because of how often it'd fail to switch properly. More importantly, there is no auto-reload for ammo that isn't active. If you do switch between ammo to make use of 'pre-loading' then you have to manually switch back through each ammo type to reload it. That needs a much better system.
It's also worth mentioning that crossbows are especially bad with weapon swaps. Normally all your ammo is used with a single crossbow shot ability (so the actual firing is always done with the same button). Each crossbow has a separate crossbow shot ability, so you can't just tie your ammo to a certain weapon loadout and have it be fluid to play (since you need to then start using a separate hotkey for firing with the other weapon).
I do think if they address all the problems then they'll play smoothly with enough investment in things like reload, but right now there are a lot of areas needing work.

This is exactly why i like it. Everything feels very deliberate. In D4 on the other hand everything explodes level clear in 25 sec rushing through... I hate that.

Guess tastes are different
You are bias as shit, arent you?
I'm not talking about PoE1. I didn't play a lot of PoE1. Never got me hooked. Also I'm stating my opinion. Of course my opinion is biased. It's an opinion... duh. Weak bait...

Why would you devalue your opinion so badly? By the way, you stated your "opinion" as a fact
Sorry my friend but on this forum if you have less than 100 posts and you are talking to someone with more than 5000 posts you should refer to them as 'sir'. So your post should read:
