If so, if both damage types are applied at the same time, it should be one big ignite.
Should be the same for elementalist and stormfire: one big ignite if it's a single source that deals all damage.
I'm personally leaning towards Earthquake Ignite as a starter now. Looking at 500k Sirus dps with a sub 500 dps staff, almost 600k with Marty of Innocence, no other gear, no quality, no charges etc. at lvl 95. For defenses I already got stun and freeze immunity, 75/60 block (glancing blows, this should be good with 2% rec on block and Infused Flesh), decent armour with Determination, ok life (188% w/o jewels) and lots of slowing. I think this should be ok for my standards. Can't be worse than my Cobra Lash starter last league. :D

99% sure I'll start Firestorm Ignite Elementalist (might switch to Incinerate if the dmg difference is too big). I have no idea if I wanna do the block version or the high life version though... probably the block version, although just having 5k - 5.5k life seems very low, but it would have like 50/50 block non glancing blow without rumi and ~40k armour. Just damage over time and high spell hits would wreck me I guess.
Note: The 2% life block on staff mastery is just for attacks. It's huge for Inquisitor though, honestly Inquisitor with Glorious Vanity and perma RF, maybe with an Battery Staff, can surely make a great build... it'd be a hit spell build though and surely not very league starter friendly.

I just do a streamer build this time for start, and try build of my own later. As it normally end up the other way around.

Yeah life on block for staffs is only for attacks, which is a bummer.
5,5 k life with 50/50 block and 40k armour should be ok against most things on softcore tbh. Especially on an ignite build which enables you to move a lot. I'm still not sure about Firestorm. I put it in PoB a few days ago and it's damage is considerably lower than ArmaBrand... Like, they buffed it so many times now and this patch they it got a buff if compared to ArmaBrand and it's still weaker, both damage-wise and mechanically. I hope it works out for you.

Building upon my mjolnir+squire idea a little bit.
I'm thinking of running coc (or cwc? Which is better?) cyclone on the chest as well
So ill have two damage setups based around lightning damage and everything else can just focus on defence
Are my choices between inquisitor and elementalist? Which would be better to run coc/cwc?

Dunno, I'm managing 1 m dps without much issues, but it caps at like 2,3 m with pretty hard to reach gear. With Incinerate it would be like 4 m tops with the gem nerfs I think, but I hate the idea of channelling & stopping. I can't imagine Arma Brand being higher, but I didn't test it. Also you'd need to adjust for quite massive gem nerfs here too, while Firestorm got a flat 150% ignite buff.
Anyway dmg wise I'm pretty sure it will be fine with either gem, especially if using Flame Surge too. Not super huge damage, but fine.
|
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. The skill gems are not updated yet. Yeah, then Firestorm should have more dps. Do you mind sharing your PoB? I would be interested to have a look.

Probably CoC? They removed the channeling clusters from the tree apparently.

On inquisitor you can ignore elemental resistance of target, so you can ignore curses that lower it and penetrate it. That should work well with CoC, but not with ignite damage.

I'm going for this Poison TS Ballista build. Seems like it might be a bit squishy but if evasion / spell suppresion works out it'll be alright

Won't be able to play until the Monday after though >< got a wedding, same thing stopped me from playing last league too

in this league people will be the poorest they'll ever been both in gear and currency. i don't think people will be able to craft meaningful items for themselves.

You think? I don't think we need a league mechanic that shits loot these days, there are a lot of things in the game that do that already... If Delve gets a meaningful buff, the zone with Delve and Blight looks very hot. And if they truely buff the resonator drop rate, that's all it really takes; delve crafting is one of the best ways to craft too. Also the Expedition + Heist zone looks hot for loot, I'm really torn between these two. And if you really want to craft some decent things quickly, there always is Haewark Hamlet where Essence exists which is just bonkers for crafting... I don't think what you say makes sense. In fact, due to the smaller atlas and faster endgame grind, it should be easier for people to get rich faster.
Also seeing Flame Surge, it looks like a 4L max on a pure ignite build ... it has no duration tag, and it doesn't look like you can scale the ground part. So maybe Culling Strike + AoE + Intensify. Probably more clever to put it into Arcanist Brand though.
edit: The Flame Surge gem begs for another question though... does it take ignite dps or total ignite damage? If it's ignite dps, replica Emberwake seems kinda nutty, although only really useable for Arma Brand, and even with that it's a little problematic since they nerfed the activation time (cast speed).

Hmm you can buy a item or map and upgrade it in scourge mode and sell it for more. Seems easy to turn that into currency.
|
i'm thinking you'll need scourge gear to run scourge level content. i'm also thinking that scourge items/modifiers are a lottery: millions are excited to get in on the action, but very very very few get to come out with something from it. gambling leads to poverty.
thinking some more: in 1-2 weeks players will complain about drop rates of tainted orbs(there won't be enough to craft gear) and GGG will oblige them but by then, the "OMG BUT THOSE 1% WHO HAVE IT ALL" arguments will be in full swing.
best case scenario: people will ignore scourge and maybe enjoy the new additions/changes(because honestly, there is coll stuff in there).
|
I personally don't care about the orbs at all, do people do that? I do wanna use the league mechanic for krangling some items and hope to find some of the cool uniques though. But I don't really expect to find the uniques, either, they're too good. ^^
I'm mostly excited to try out builds, love the passive tree changes even though some things still need work. For example I do think there should be Fire DoT mastery and Fire Mastery as well as Cold DoT Mastery and Cold Mastery.
|
sure, i get that and it's fine, i feel you, but i'm thinking ... for you to krangle, you need to kill scourge mobs, and higher/better krangled mods, will require high lvl scourge mob kills and, just thinking here, hear me out, those mobs will be overtuned as hell.
|
My thoughts on this are pretty much the same as Holydaking's. I also honestly doubt the monster will be overtuned to the point where you need mirror tier gear to beat them in T16 maps. This is not how it has worked in the past leagues. Yes, the league monsters were more challenging but never to the point where I felt like I needed to invest stacks of exalts into a build to get the content done. I don't think this will be much different in Scourge because they added so much uber content to the game this patch that it is completely unnecessary to tune the league itself to the same level.
|
I feel that if you take a standard good item that most builds can use, like high life gloves with good resistance and you use the scourge corruption then you will have high chance to make improvement on it of one build if not yours then somebody else can surely use it and you make even or profit.
|
|
Here what I made up for what I'll start with (Even tough I can only start 1st Dec ). note: I'm not a expert of any sort in build but I think it look good. note2: the items are just random in it expect for the staff. https://pastebin.com/JJ77rP9C
Build is an Occultist Bane/ED/Blight and going CI
and I would really like to do a second build using the new gem "Energy Blade", it look pretty sick.
|
energy blade looks awesome but from gem stats seems kinda weak. I'd love to play it 2nd build too but I dunno if it will pan out without great investment, or guardian support
