I dont think he misses much, the journey to 50s is the most needed experience and probably most fun (as in all ARPG imho), when i started i died few times in 20-40 area and rerolled every time.

Im going to play the duelist almost exclusivly from now on.
But for a kinda complex system like in PoE I want to try out as many classes as possible to know what is possible and what might be optimal.
So don't be afraid, you will most likly see only lv25+ streamed at my channel from now on

I'm currently reading into this.....looks quite intense and cool. Watched the Templar video (looks very gothic, and scary) reminds me of Diablo 1, which is great. Wish I had more time to play this.

My point is no build is finished at lvl 25. By lvl 50+ you can finish builds and continue to play them to test them on maps or start a new one. At lvl 25 is like stopping half way to try something new.

I haven't played this game since my first beta invite which was over a year ago and I must say they've come a long way! I can totally see this game replacing torchlight/diablo3 as the premiere action RPG. I have been very impressed. My only gripe right now is that melee seems quite sluggish and unresponsive. I have a marauder and a witch both only like lv20 and the game play on the witch is mostly seamless where it seems on my marauder I'm swinging at air quite a bit or just not really doing anything.

If they can work on the melee game play this game would be a 10/10.

There are some desynch issues but unless you have resolute technique those air swings are you missing.

you can tell when you're missing and when your character is just standing there doing nothing. It actually reminds me a lot of d2 at times, swingswingswing, looks like nothing is happening then all the sudden monster dies after you have stopped swinging.

I totally agree with you. But you need to at least know the brought concepts of each class/mainstat
And then its overall nice to have played each class to finally decide which you like most.

And as i said I will keep leveling the Duelist for now.

The thing is you cannot know until you come to Merciless. My last char is a double claw shadow and while playing up to merciless act 2 was fairly fun and now my build is almost complete currently I am not happy with him. Only by coming to merciless act 2 I can see the problems. He is neither tanky or dps. Fellshrine ruins I feel he kills too slow. And there is nothing I can do about it except spec out of claws and into daggers. My plan was to combine life and ES with Ghost Reaver and leech of claws so I can leech ES while still have potions to use when my life starts dropping. Idea was to make a true hybrid. But my damage is low, claws have bad base damage, you don't get much strength for bonus damage and you need to go physical damage to leech it for ES. My critical chance is only around 23% and my dual strike DPS around 1400 (that says on tooltip, not sure if it shows only from one weapon or both). Although the idea was to have a char capable to fighting and leeching to stay alive he cannot do that, with any group of decent speed (non zombie or skeletons) or rares I need to use eldritch chain and decoy totem so survive (being able to use decoy totem is only good part of this build).

This was longer then I expected but the point is I would not be able to know this before I got to Act 2 Merciless and my current lvl 54.

Couple of years of gaming have thought that a lot
I it is not that i neglact that fact, but as I just started to play it I want to decide which one I will grind up to a decent level with some basis as well as get a feeling for the game.
With a slight feeling (which you have playing enough ARPG/MMO) you will be able to pan out your first build better than just starting "blindly".
With that said, if you have some knwoledge to spread be sure to join the chat :D
Will be streaming some hours now.

edit: so don't forget, im just getting into the game

Tried my hand at the solo turbo race today...
I gave up before Brutus after ~1h with no rare, no portal scroll, only two magic items, a 2h axe when I'm supposed to go 1h, and no medium flask. My practice character that I played only 45 mins had twice the dps, more life, more defense and 4 medium flasks at that point. RNG crushed my soul.

But it was fun. Playing HC longterm gets tedious, but rushing through the content for a 3h race is intense.

Was playing around a bit today after about a month of not having my desktop set up due to moving and overall the game felt much smoother and crisper on response times making kiting look and feel much cleaner on my ranger. Also Act 3 is very sexy.

Unless you have access to the Alpha, you weren't playing Act 3 today.

Hook me up with an Alpha key, receive hugs and kisses. Limited time offer, ends on the 28th. *wink wink*.

Yeah so...kind of surprised that this flew under my radar for so long. To reflect on 2012 and 2011 I was so focused on SC2. Diablo 3 was an utter bust for me, Torchlight 2 meh....was good. Stopped at 35-40 on elite as an embermage. Sort of got bored.

They don't hand out Alpha keys are far as I know, I was just chatting with Chris after winning one of the CT events about what I thought of balance wise and he set me up with an account. Yea the game is still amazingly under-hyped for just how good it is. I'm currently trying to not play too much cause I don't want to get burnt out or anything before putting in massive hours after release on the 23rd, however I can't seem to force myself to log out atm.

For me what makes Path of Exile enjoying in gameplay despite not having "superduper" fluidity is pot system. Its way better than D2/Tl2/D3, its actually dynamic, with no need to wait out or go to town to replenish, it was one of 3 things that PoE truly brought to the genre and i feel like any other alternative is simply inferior.

I can't wait for quicksilver flasks that are coming in Open Beta, it feels the idea pretty awesome for speeding up, as Phase Run is kind of restricting, but when you have good killing speed you can basically have quicksilver all the time (theoretically, as i don't have Alpha content so i never played with it).

Ive been playing non stop for 2 weeks now, and i foresee myself logging in many many hours, there just something that this game has that keeps me going. The build diversity, the character progression, the skill tree, the complex interlocking systems and game play mechanics. Not to mention how involved the devs are with the community. This is a great game, and im glad to throw them some money, they truly deserve it!
