Yeah, it's a pretty amusing game mode. I just won my first round carried by Tabula, Ice Shot, Craghead, and Split Arrow.
Ice Shot in particular (okay, Freezing Pulse's innate chance to freeze at close range too) is just bonkers.
I always wonder why this type of Battle Royale game hasn't been tapped yet (obviously better balanced). Farming neutral mobs in particular really adds to the feel of the mode in my opinion.
It's also better than Cutthroat Leagues in basically every way.

If they put some time into this it could be something really awesome without much effort.

BR lured me back into playing. I super suck at this but finally got a win with some Vaal Burning Arrow.
it'd be awesome if they keep it in, but they don't keep descent in, so I dunno what they will do.

This is pretty fun. Balance is wonky (Split Arrow wins all the early fights, cold skills are OP in 1v1s), but I'm enjoying it.

Played like 10-15 times so far, won twice. For me Frost Blades works the best, though you need to find it and other stuff early on for it to work great. Basically, it's great for leveling and pushing towards the mid. The bow chars won't push as far so you'll be pretty lonely most of the times. By the time I was in mid in the games I won, the Split Arrow / Ice Shot chars didn't really hurt me since I had the highest level and went full defense in the passive tree while getting enough dmg from the plently (unique) items that drop.
With bow skills I die more often to the monsters, rather the players, lol.

I hope this mode stays. I don't know how fun it is to play but it is super fun to watch on twitch.

now servers are more full = games are harder. :<
got my 5th win, that's enough for me now... got all wins with frostblades, but a well equipped archer is kinda unbeatable. anyway, early game RNG is pretty frustrating. :D

Like someone said, this could be actually really intriguing with a few small changes. As it is though it's insanely frustrating. Mobs are weird, and bows are insane lol. Cute gimmick. We'll see if they do anything with it. Doubt it, unfortunately.

If you're from Europe and want to win easier, choose Milan. Mostly just 30-40 players per game last I went there. It's also less bullshit early game as you have better chances to actually get gems before PvPing.
|
Maps pretty big, I think you can try to skip beaches and go for loot more towards the center. Also it seems you get xp even if other players kill mobs and other players. That can be used to your advantage.
|
Yeah I'm realizing how much of the initial excitement/enjoyment probably came from the earliest players that got into games with <50 people in them. It's way more fun when you have a bit of breathing room to get at least a decent gem or two. The moments where I get into 1v1 stutterstepping fights with someone are really intense. Yeah everyone knows split arrow and frost blades are OP but if you can at least get onto equal footing with the last group of survivors it gets interesting. It's the clusterfuck in the beginning that sucks. Or maybe it only sucks cuz it's a small pain in the ass to delete the character and restart lol. It'd get stale if they kept it as is for more than a week. But with some adjustments it could be a great mode for fun on the side, especially if it only comes back like once a month or something with goofy changes/ideas.
|
Indeed, would be much better if you could were not forced to delete + make a new char. Ideally you could choose to start new in a new game or quit.
Well, I'm sure it'll be something they might re-use, but I can't see this one staying permanently.
Speaking of shitty interface problems with PoE lately... Instead of showing when you can just catch one more stupid beast of a certain type, why can't they also tell you that captures fail because the menagerie is full? Ideally, after every capture there could be a number that tells you how much space is left (say 34/45 avians).

I had an enourmous rant written up on why I was quitting the league, but I think I'm pretty much done for good now. So see you around maybe idk

So see you around maybe idk Was it just about the league specifically? Or the game as a whole lol. I'm already over how lackluster Bestiary was and I'll just chill til the next rolls around, but I think it might have more foreboding implications for future content.
|
I cannot quit yet, I still got builds I want to try in this league or the next one.
|
It was about the balance of the game, the direction the game has been traveling, and the ranger class specifically. Basically a salt mine, bestiary had nothing to do with it as I've had very little issue with the league over all.

i really enjoyed the April Fool Battle Royale aswell. I won 2x Rounds one Shadow with Freeze Pulse and one Duelist with Frost Blades
|
Managed to get 20 wins. Most with frostblades but... some split arrow couple vaal sparks. freeze pulse, and a satisfying SRS win.
Most fun was easily finding an archer in a tight space and running him down with frostblades.
Fun event.

Split Arrow Royale was fun.
Won 11~ times with ranger split arrow.
General strategy was to get a farming skill (ice arrow, shrapnel shot, split arrow) and some sort of damage on beach.
Go for a two link red-green and add chance to bleed.
Then afk farm getting as much damage as possible (and hopefully find split arrow at some point or kill someone with it) until you are high enough level for Ballistic Mastery, which combined with your glass cannon build, lets you offscreen anyone that gets near. Also gives you a range advantage over other split shots. Don't worry about hunting people, just shoot them if they get near at all and farm until the end.
