I'm kinda thinking about using the crab helmet and a rare with the crab aspect. Should be pretty decent that way already for physical mitigation.
Also, what about a Blade Flurry build with Hatred and added cold on stat stick? So far I've been using Hypothermia, but if you think it's no good I'll reconsider. I wish PoB would have something I could rely on. :D

you only have to do 1/333rd of their life tho plus hypothermia grants 20% chill effect so you actually only have to do 0.28% of their hp in a single hit.
That said there are chill immune enemies, plus there's the ailment avoidance map mods, plus it never works on the first hit and some portion of builds prefer the 1-shot. It also doesn't show on your big dick tooltip, but yeah it's pretty good. Not insane, but a 39% more multiplier is a great gem.

Elder, Shaper and Guardians aren't chill immune, are they? Thanks for doing the calc, that seems manageable.

Apparently not, they aren't even freeze immune although they ignore being frozen and keep doing shit lol.
also apparently rigwald is the only freeze immune mob and he isn't even chill immune only freeze? I'm not sure how accurate this but that's all the wiki has documented.

Anyone got recommendations for someone getting back into this game after playing it for the first few months of release? I get the feeling things are a little different now. Looking to play hardcore

Whoops, misplaced a decimal. The 1/333 is slightly more manageable (particularly for dedicated ele builds). That actually tempts me to try out Soul Taker as a mainhand in SST so that phys chills and I get get even more bang for my bleed buck with hypothermia, it probably would work better than Chance to Bleed (the phys damage component doesn't apply to SST) which is what I was aiming to use as a sixth link.
Not sure I can crack 1/333rd of Shaper/Elder/guardian health with what would basically be a 5L shield throw, though...hmm.
Edit: Also, today's (3/29) lab was super easy to 4-5 key, so I ran a bunch of labs. Now I need to figure out if a crab helm with 15% reduced hatred reservation is worth anything...

Do you mean 5 year ago release? The game is much faster now, and most things are easy until endgame, with the exception of a few bosses. I'd recommend to either play through the game once on softcore to get to know 1shotty mechanics, or read up on stuff before you engage, or you'll likely rip to some stuff you didn't know hit really really hard.

He most probably means the 1.0 release, the actual release. Before that was just alpha/beta.
As for builds... there are a ton of different ones, just check the official forum. Especially check out Juggernaut in Marauder forum and Hierophant in templar forum if you don't mind totems. Those two are pretty good for HC.

I'll echo this. Kitava and to a lesser extent Malachi are quite frustrating the first 1-2 times you face them, but ultimately have super telegraphing once you figure out what's going on. Even watching videos didn't really help me there, there's something just kinetic about how you want to respond to each attack.

Yeah, I played once it was released, I think. But definitely before any expansions.

Anyway, one of the biggest things that changed since then is the fact that reflect only appears on map mods anymore. So it's MUCH less of an issue nowadays. Also I don't know since when you can play on lockstep, but it might have been after release so you may not know the old desync issues.

Both Waterways and one of the three Racecourse bosses also apply it to themselves intermittently, I think.

Lockstep definitely only came quite some time after the release.

Yeah, Racecourse fighting bull boss activates it after some seconds and for some seconds (visually noticeable). Waterways boss goes inactive after some damage taken (or also just after a while?) and becomes immune while reflecting your damage.

I thought it was just the golem explosions ripping me apart sometimes on Waterways boss. now I know I guess.

Respecced to windripper from kinetic blast, went full abyss minus the helmet so now I have a stupid amount of abyss jewels. I have 6.2k hp roughly which isn't amazing but it's enough to comfortably do red elder, and when I get a bit better jewels and a dying sun I'll be approaching a million shaper dps, which isn't amazing but it's enough to delete him fast enough.
