When I play new characters I always stack 2 life rings and only exchange them with cold resistance rings for bosses. it was the HC race dude. when i was there, some guy was already going to Oak in A2. Deep Dweller was killed <15 mins into the race starting, and the Flame was turned in not long after that. i got an unlucky affix on a mob, when i did brutus he barely was doing any dmg to me. i was in like 60th place when i died...it was just an unlucky affix for me really. no one else farmed up health gear since i was ~6-7 lvls behind the #1 guy lol here are some +hp i had from gear: 14hp from gloves 24hp from helm 22hp from chest 22hp from ring
You can buy health rings from vendors dirt cheap. Then use transmutation orb on both of them. Also buy strength or health belt if it doesn't drop and you are set.

My Templar died in HC! damn it -.- but it was incredibly more fun than Softcore :D

Anyone else played in the cutthroat event? I did quite decent despite being solo, didn't die a single time and managed to rack up some kills. I was really lucky with the loot I got from bosses that I rushed, had 300hp and 90 energy shield at like lvl 5-6 + a weapon with +1 frost spell skill (I was frost witch)

Solo is not really a huge disadvantage. The only true advantage of grouping is at the start of act 2 normal and you can probably make a deal about that with some other players (It is all about getting the waypoints and thus it can be an advantage for anyone).

how do i get in the beta? i thought it was f2p so i signed up at Pathofexile.com and activated my account, but cant download and play the game anywhere that i know of. anyone know if i can play or do i have to be randomly selected by the people at PoE?

either you get selected (1 gets selected every 5 secs) or you get a Beta-Key from somewhere (you can buy one @ www.pathofexile.com/purchase )

im really bad at these action rpg games so im just playing softcore atm... i dont evne know whhere im going with my characters @_@... What is the downside of leveling up gem? i saw kripp the other night was quite considerate when his gem level up?

I believe he was referring to a gem that req Int. Being a Marauder he didn't wanna level it past how much Int he had avail.

Glad to see this game gaining popularity again. I will start updating the OP again in the next couple days. Downloading patches takes forever here so its going to be forever till I can play again.

the skill makes you immune to chaos dmg

Yup like Enderbantoo said Chaos Innoculation makes you immune to chaos damage while giving you 50% more Energy Shield and removing your HP making it 1.
No idea what's the purpose of two weapon sets I haven't had a use for it yet.

Every five minutes and this isn't an efficient way to get a key. If you want to play you'll have to buy one.

Leveling gems increases the mana cost. Sometimes you want to be able to spam more spells rather than them doing slightly more damage.

with 2 weapon sets, you can put more skills into the gem slots and then switch back to the main weapon and keep the skills. you can also have a certain set up to make certain fights easier, say switching to a shield and 1h when running around vaal when hes dropping rocks etc

It also lets you use Blood Rage without penalty.
As for weapon sets, put auras in weapon and shield that are alternate. Then keep shortcuts for auras when you switch to that set. When you switch back to normal those slots are empty and you can put active skills there. But you can only put skills that you have in your normal weapon/shield. If you try to put skills that are not on switched equipment it gets remembered when weapon switching.

Just hit 50 on my Marauder today. Here are some of my stats:
1276 HP, Life Regen 57 HP / sec
278 Str, 87 Int, 63 Dex
1187 Armor 30% Reduction
75% Fire Resist
64% Frost Resist
40% Lightning Resist
Single Target (Dual Strike) 687 DPS
AoE (Cleave) 251 DPS, 25 Life on Hit.
Right now my DPS feels fine, but my armor is seriously lacking. Overall I'm very beefy and just facetank everything I fight.
