Bad idea? Doable with a totem build where you can focus entirely on avoidance? Maybe if you Cloudinator? Do it in SC unless you want to do at least one run in beta and/or are fine with a couple deaths (which you're usually not =P). The main bosses all in all are well balanced and designed, but that still means you might get into dumb spots if you haven't spoiled yourself about mechanics or what resists you need. There is one exception and there it's not the boss himself but an addphase that can crush hope and dreams if your build didn't consider them. Optional bosses in the new acts are autoskips and do later for the most part, some of those are really damn mean.SRS / Sunder / strong totem builds / trappers/miners are probably the by far best options if you do decide to take things on solo and blind. In terms of "Cloudinator" type builds, both Jugg and Slayer are strong sunder/EQ options but I'd say Slayer wins this in most ways. Overleech, 20% cull, those things are too OPOP. All in all knowing you I think you'd be happier in SC which allows you to complain about dumb stuff happening and moving on instead of HC where you end up complaining and quitting. =D 3.0 definitely is the time to get back into PoE though, so many cool improvements left right and center. Sounds like there will be lots of complaints on teamspeak. Are they more impossible than release lab? I'd say yes. I heard one of these candidates got nerfed in wave 4 but didn't check him out yet. Two more left which are pretty bullshit unless I'm forgetting one but I'll gladly enjoy you finding out about them on your own if you're going for SC. <3

Anyone have a spare beta key? I just now got back home and wanted to try beta out a bit before it goes live. I'm sorry if I shouldn't be asking in here.

Noooo! They killed my non crit PC focused Trickster starter build

Use frenzies? Should work even better.

Aand dual void battery builds went from nicely buffed to nerfed. I know that some people wanted to do that, even if it doesn't have insanely high clear speed due to no good movement skill (yet).

sounds to me like old frenzies were not OP. charge generation remains an issue

Not sure what to do now... maybe go back to the Berserker Firestorm character..

Let's wait for the Patch Notes. If Berserker leech stays the same I would go Berserker for most life based casters, since leeching with spells is a pain. Berserker + MoM seems pretty good if you still manage to do enough damage despite investing in high life and some mana (and reserving not much).

See, the community yelled out in anger and GGG responded.
(In practice I'm fine with it being reverted assuming they had no time left to care about all the affected uniques but the whole process of them announcing a change, the majority going "Ahhhhhhrrggggg noooooo!!!!" and them reverting it doesn't feel too brilliant.)

I hate the change back. Oh well.

hmm so
my CA character would not have good single target with essence drain. it's not really any higher than my CA. *however*, I have good attack speed and I have a lot of those phys/chaos nodes near shadow, so I am wondering would it be feasible to swap to dual 1hands to use viper strike on certain bosses?

Swap to Barrage with Poison support jk.. accuracy is a problem for CA builds, normally you don't worry about it at all.
EDIT: How is your ED bad? Swap to +1 bow (or +3 chaos staff). 6L: ED + Empower+Controlled Destruction + Efficacy + Rapid Decay (or the new name) + Void Manipulation. Get some pierce from the tree and you are set. Link Arcane Surge with your Vulnerability curse and Inc duration + faster casting/inc aoe and you are set.

yeah I mean it's more damage, it's 69k vs 41k in PoB, it's just like not "oh wow this is a great single target" damage. I could use a +3 chaos staff in swap like you say..
goes up to 78k if i corrupt it to a lvl 21
did check out viper strike... with average claws the dps was only 40k so thats obviously horrible i'd only want to do that if it gave me huge dps. it does not. lol
so basically my single target will just be awful in general. so be it

If ed is just for single target don't get pierce on the tree.
If you want ed for a build you could do what I used to back in breach league to farm lab, which was a decay bow with a 6l vortex setup for clearing, and ed for the boss.
It's a decent clearer I guess but it's nothing amazing. For checking out boss dps make sure you enable wither at a reasonable level, cause it seriously makes an enourmous difference. A weapon with decay on it is absurdly powerful by the way.
Should be pretty easy to get it above 100k at the very least, which is admittedly nothing spectacular.

The trick is that they stack. You weapon swap, use ED (lasts for a while), go back to CA.
