Can you guys check this starter build out and give me the cons :D https://pastebin.com/NZiRzWvB
Berserker self cast Vortex, for SC of course. I was much more realistic with equipment here and with gems. I didn't take Cloaked in Savagery as I don't have Vaal Pact anyways so I don't get as much from it. With Warcry I can get more damage or more defense depending on which one I put into the slot.
|
The main con I can think of that is just that the AoE on Vortex is pretty bad now. Might still be fine, just maybe not the most fun/fast to play.
|
Without changes to the AoE I would never consider playing it. I'd rather go Blade Vortex, similar radius but more damage.

But I took a lot of AoE, AoE should be 2x base spell AoE. Also Blade Vortex does not allow me to shield charge to one pack, cast one spell and shield charge away. Vortex leaves behind a DoT that last 4.5s and kills most enemies (including rare ones) that are not high on cold res.
From what I seen of Blade Vortex you need to keep recasting often to upkeep blade numbers, also often I seen people need to stand there for a short while until everyone dies. Also Blade Vortex does not allow me to cast it from afar with Frostbolt :D

Well, you probably have some char on standard with similar AoE to test how it looks. I don't like Blade Vortex for the reasons you mentioned.

I know how it looks, I played Vortex before (trap Vortex). AoE is good especially when you are melee and they come towards you and enter the DoT.

re: breach stuff - I don't think they need a buff but I would be happy with one because I love breach. tbh many people stopped picking up splinters since they ended up less than 10:1c (less than an alt), so maybe they will be actually worth to pick up.
I invited your friend covetousrat
@archangel seems wasteful to go blood magic when you have zerker warcry and mana leech. I would probably go MoM and then get more witch nodes. trap vortex is different from self cast. most notably self cast vortex has terrible 0.9 second cast time, so GL with that

Edit: Fuck, you were right. https://pastebin.com/txxPtzEf This character does more damage and has more overall EHP. Only his life leech is worse due to lower max Life. Also I know the life to mana ratio now is not OK but that is because I didn't bother to modify all gear as well, I just redid the tree. Edit2: also more AoE now. Cast speed with this tree is kind of OK around 0.6

What is the increased duration for? Vortex DoT doesn't stack, and so the duration is plenty without any nodes.

Vortex DoT doesn't stack, and so the duration is plenty without any nodes. #1 So I am sure one cast will kill white enemies, blue enemies and most yellow enemies and I can be shield charging to next pack (especially useful when I am using a 5L with not that high level gems and not with so much quality) in that time #2 So when fighting bosses (especially tough ones) I have enough time to cast another Curse/Frost Bomb/OoS/Rally Cry before I go in again and Vortex him again.
It is a QoL thing to make things a bit easier. If I notice I don't need it during playing, I will respec it. Also it will make curses, Frost Bomb, Rally Cry and maybe Arcane Surge last longer.
|
I'd be surprised of the white enemies won't fall during the first Vortex even without the duration. That would be terrible.
I can see it as small QoL, but probably not enough for it to matter.
But hey, it's indeed 3 points so you can respec easily (into for example 5% life from Scion Wheel and the Mana next to it if necessary).

for your newest tree, instead of spending 2 int nodes from EO to reach Cruel Preparation, go from the Blast Radius wheel (1 AoE node + 1 int node). Same passive point cost but you get some AoE and access to another jewel

God, the last few comments and actions to come out of GGG have been realllly offputting. I'll do a little writeup in the next two days but this behavior is really bizarre.

Like claiming they got experts doing testing for them then announcing Shock needs to hit 50% of enemy HP for full effect and then changing it to 10% of enemy HP few days later? :D :D
Or this from Chris:
They showed me the millions of DPS build. It did do millions of DPS against target dummies with low resistances. It didn't have any survivability problems. We decided not to post it because it just seemed so defensive and wrong to have to justify ourselves in this way, especially because the build has been fixed now to not be so OP. The details of the build itself were never going to be given out (as we don't want to spoil the hunt for players), and the screenshots/other evidence would have not been sufficient to make you guys happy. Also, you'd have then wanted target dummies. I need to get back to work on 3.0.0 now.

edit: nvm
Bleed seems gutted now like Mathil showed, not that I ever thought it's strong enough to build around.

It was possible to build around in 2.6
Interesting puncture trap bleed: https://pastebin.com/WqK99Mcq

A bit torn between SRS and wander. Wander looks more fun, but all my friends that I asked say it's bad for starting out and that I should go SRS to farm gear first.
|
IMO, you should pick builds that you will have fun with even if they can be suboptimal in some ways. For example I will probably play an EQ slayer later, even though I am quite sure Sunder is superior. this is because I find EQ way more fun and am more likely to actually play to lvl 80+
I remember I had one league where I really wanted to play BV pathfinder, which has lots of expensive flasks. So I did caustic arrow MF first to farm for it, but died twice before lvl 75. Finally I just rolled the PF with no currency and just slowly farmed everything up, but it worked because I wasn't trying to push ladder like a madman or anything.
basically what I'm saying is you should play whatver build that will be fun (and strong enough) and you'll be able to get the gear you need as long as you put in some time. it might not be the most efficient way to play, but if you not a super serious player then it doesnt matter
|
yep echelon i agree, I find it more fun to play that way, it gives me goals and i get a better feeling of progression and accomplishments
