I was planning a Ngamahu's Cycloner for 3.0 and would love some feedback on my tree/plan.
The first version I came up with is this one: http://poeurl.com/bnNy (not the one I am currently favoring). This nets me about 7.2k life with Belly, Devoto's helm and okay gear otherwise.
This will be a HC build.
I did some softcore testing (on live) with a similar build (no Cloaked in Savagery cause I didn't do uber lab, Hatred with legacy pyre for full conversion + herald of ash, 5 link, lvl 89 with some filler nodes for dex/int). Dps is very satisfying up to tier 15 (didn't attempt guardians yet).
However, already single target reflect is an issue. If I am not on top of my potting I can kill myself on those. In -minus max maps it's pretty much instant death.
Hence, I came up with this vaal pact version: http://poeurl.com/bnNO Pastebin link (mostly mock up gear) https://pastebin.com/eKsaP3st
Currently this tree uses blood magic (so no auras), no blood rage. This nets me about 7.5k life with the same gear which I am much more comfortable with and has instant leech at the expense of no regen. I could probably also just drop blood magic and trade that in for some other life nodes.
Other things I have people seen using:
- Kaom's heart and insanity gloves (%more attack speed) for cyclone: I doubt that this will be a dps upgrade. Reflect should still be a major issue if no vaal pact.
- Raider: I just have not managed to come up with a good raider tree that has ~7k life and even remotely comparable dps.
I'd love to get some feedback on the vaal pact tree or if anybody knows how to make a non-vaal pact version work I'd also be interested.

I started last league as ngamahus and enjoyed it. Issue I had as berserker was it didn't have the evasion that raider version git and so while having more hp and insane life leech I was more vulnerable to 1 shots from thibgs like guardians, at least I think that was the problem. Am curious how strong it will be in 3.0.

The way I see it Berserker without VP is pretty damn awkward. If you wanted to do this without VP then Slayer is the more obvious choice to me just based on instinct without having played such a build myself.
Since a level 100 tree might not be the best idea you'd obviously drop Wrecking Ball. Berserker node is questionable damage wise (ignore if this is crucial to Cyclone), Path of the Warrior is a great node you didn't take. Instead of Wrecking Ball I'd grab the Scion Jewel and Profane Chemistry, I doubt that once you push into 90s that damage will be your issue.
Don't think there is much to criticize about this kind of build since it's pretty straighforward. You *could* consider Kraityn since both attack and movespeed benefit Cyclone.
I'd consider Kaom's & insanity gloves not as an upgrade but as a sidegrade, unless PoB does something weird here it's a strict damage downgrade but the HP is nothing to scoff at since it brings you to 8.7k+. I'd start with the non-Kaom's version and then potentially swap to Kaom's if your damage seems completely fine. Here's the version with Insanity gloves you can play around with them: https://pastebin.com/CPGFVdzu - Essences are added on the top right when you craft an item, "Add modifier" and then grab them from the drop down.
edit: THE QoL DREAM FOR 3.0
e2: Datamined Challenges, nothing final but the endgame grinds would suck if it stays like this. Again. Also 8 mods, unid, twinned. Again.
e3: Actual Challenges are out. And damn, are those rewards ugly. T_T

this has got to be the worst rewards ever
challenges seem really easy though, except 1337 map bosses and the last 2 super long ones

Only realistic criticism I got is that you want two Breach items that were not cheap even in Breach league early. What is your plan to get to lvl 90 without these items (while you farm for chaos to buy them) or how do you plan to farm Fire Breach Lord Domain yourself to get them? Is this your league starter build?

Only xoph's amulet is breach item and isn't required, you can use ngahamu tiki (amulet) or just rare until later
ngamahu's flame (axe) isn't breach item. unless you were talking about xoph amulet + blessing being two items, but the blessing becomes rly cheap later, not a big issue

Lol :D But it arrived with Breach league.. I guess I always assumed it was a Breach item by default. Heh. And he needs the amulet to do full Fire damage or his build is weaker.
Then other problem with the build is that it is a Cyclone build in HC.

I believe you can comfortably make a life based wander on day 1 of harbinger, all you need is two obliterations and 2 4 links. Chuck barrage in 5 link as soon as you can. Nice, is there a decent build or guide for what the wand build would be? I don't really follow guides anymore, I'll post the tree though and you can figure it out from there probably. Still deciding on a few things but imo it's looking pretty decent.

I like the look of scion for a few reasons, I'm assuming that raider will be better later on but I'm not entirely sure on that just yet. The tl;dr of it is that for very little expense you can get a few 100k dps from barrage which scales up endlessly while being reflect immune(!!!) and tankier. I never worry about doing dps as a wander, I do worry about instantly killing myself to the wrong mob, or just getting blown up in general.

I did a Ngamahu Slayer last league and pathed to Templar, picking up AoF until I got the neck.
|
Thanks for the feedback all. The plan is to start as vanilla cyclone, work towards Ngamahu's and take Avatar of Fire from the tree once I got it and then eventually respec (since it's a temp league regrets should be pretty cheap).
Cyclone in HC is actually not that much of an issue. I've done plenty of those beyond lvl 90. The fact that you are constantly moving and stunning mobs you are hitting is actually pretty good defense. It's not as safe as a totem or caster build but pretty okay.

yeah with volatile rework stuff like cyclone is a lot more viable

What do you think of the new PoE Currency? Will any orb be equally or more popular than Exalted Orbs or Chaos Orbs? I think the Ancient Orb will be popular, and what about the rest of the poe currency?

For me all currency is for trading. I don't think I ever crafted good items outside sockets, alting jewels or potions.

BTW, seems Lirik might be playing and streaming PoE 3.0 as well. Seems PoE is becoming a real mainstream game now.

But at least they'll bring attention to the game, same for the LoL players/community figures that wanna play some 3.0.
I do worry about the server stability on release day because of that.

I think anulment orb could be very good. Ancient orb I don't think should be worth too much unless there is some abuse case. depends on how it compares to mass chancing for a specific unique

So how hard are the new bosses exactly? Do you think playing hardcore blind is viable to clear all the new content or do I need to roll softcore?
Bad idea? Doable with a totem build where you can focus entirely on avoidance? Maybe if you Cloudinator?

Bad idea? Doable with a totem build where you can focus entirely on avoidance? Maybe if you Cloudinator? Do it in SC unless you want to do at least one run in beta and/or are fine with a couple deaths (which you're usually not =P).
The main bosses all in all are well balanced and designed, but that still means you might get into dumb spots if you haven't spoiled yourself about mechanics or what resists you need. There is one exception and there it's not the boss himself but an addphase that can crush hope and dreams if your build didn't consider them. Optional bosses in the new acts are autoskips and do later for the most part, some of those are really damn mean.
SRS / Sunder / strong totem builds / trappers/miners are probably the by far best options if you do decide to take things on solo and blind. In terms of "Cloudinator" type builds, both Jugg and Slayer are strong sunder/EQ options but I'd say Slayer wins this in most ways. Overleech, 20% cull, those things are too OPOP.
All in all knowing you I think you'd be happier in SC which allows you to complain about dumb stuff happening and moving on instead of HC where you end up complaining and quitting. =D
3.0 definitely is the time to get back into PoE though, so many cool improvements left right and center.

Sounds like there will be lots of complaints on teamspeak. Are they more impossible than release lab?

apparently a lot of league of legends players/ personalities play PoE, fwiw. i think PoE is actually pretty damn big now, but people usually hear of it from word of mouth rather than big advertising on GGG's part.
also this is my noob thought on design, but i really like how GGG is doing overleech/ buffer and hp:es converts as defensive mechanics versus 10 bajillion ES.
