Well with the flame totem nerfs, yes you'll likely need a bit of fire/ele dmg to make it super good but FT + Searing Bond has to be pretty reliable no-gear levelling considering you can have both from level 12 and still cast a dps spell if necessary.

Meanwhile has anybody actually looked at the new shadow tree holy shit its SO ASS they ruined the good life nodes (basically you lose 4% life), sniper's behind ev/es nodes, they put 5% life on nullification for some godawful reason, Will of blades is actually a shit node on account of being behind 8% phys dmg nodes (rofl? 8%?)

they nerfed harrier too wtf i'm actually so distraught

ps probably 50+% of characters I make and 70% of ones I theorycraft are shadow so i'm biased

I think Searing Bond will be pretty strong. New support gem for DoT will help, also a new dmg cluster at the top of the tree that is reachable for Templar / Mara. I've never played Searing Bond, but an example tree with some added curse effect (I like that) I guess could be similar to this one: + Show Spoiler +

EDIT: Also, Flametotem gets buffed. Only nerfed while at low level, but I don't think that really counts... all you really need is Fire Trap & Firestorm. Flame Totem is nice addition though. I don't really like leveling dual totems even now, I think Firestorm + 1 totem is faster.

Atleast Blood Drinker is less awkward to travel to for a lot of builds. But yeah this might be in anticipation of Ascendancy, where having shitty starting areas doesn't matter, since the specializations give you enough reason to pick X class.

+3 isn't a mod
you get either the +1 all or the +2 to a specific type mod right? (or any other mods of course)

One neat thing about the Shadow start now is that if you go phys and use Atziri's Promise you get a nice bump in your bonus chaos damage just from the 56% increased chaos damage those phys nodes now give you. Might almost make melee splash Viper Strike bearable...though I have my doubts.

viper strike... we'll have to see what they do to the gem. some of the new supports are batshit insane (stacking more modifiers etc)

but I am guessing he used elemental weakness curse? Since lightning pen gem would be much less effective

so if I wanted to run temp chains and enfeeble aura, I would either need to get a 3rd curse item to put elemental weakness on enemies or I would need to turn off an aura and then turn it back on?

do you think the build would be good without elemental weakness?

If you are running defensive curses on blasphemy, Depending on how the AoE of things works it's probably quite fine to offensively curse, cast arc, then when things get in close range just have your defensive curse(s) automatically overwrite the offensive one. If blasphemy curses are really big then that isn't really viable so I guess it might not work.

Especially if your build is focused on shattering things with cold conversion etc, you can get a lot of offensive curse work done with Herald of Ice/curse on hit as well.

Oh is that how it is going to work? I assumed that if your curse auras were on, you wouldn't be able to cast curses over your limit at all.

I mean i assume the aura curses always override (no idea how player priority works lol) but you can always cast more curses, and there's no reason for them not to affect mobs who aren't inside ur blasphemy

If I get an alpha's howl I can actually add in arctic armor, which would be nice

anyways, does that tree look efficient? I haven't played in quite a while

Well I did have a fun go at an expensive standard build, ended up playing some kinda shatterchuck (Barrage CoC). Build has some cool interactions so I thought I'd share here:

Voll's Protector + Voll's Devotion + Cold Snap CoC - instant refresh on endurance charges for CWDT IC. Cold Snap is a really good skill too, has one of the highest base damages in the game, and increased freeze duration helps against bosses.
EBMOM + Vaal Pact + Shavronne's Revelation - I wanted to replicate the insane leech of 1.3 builds by linking the LL gem and using VP, but of course that turns off the ZO regen that I would have used to sustain my ES. Shavring is actually more regen (4% vs 1.8% in the tree) and now I can leech away!
Dual Void Battery - Huge damage, 95% crit. 50% crit on Cold Snap / Arc. No shield so I use an Empowered Discipline to keep my ES up to a decent level.
Kaom's Roots - Can't be stunned, good life.
Defenses - 4700 HP / 2400 ES, near perma CWDT IC, high leech. Could push more if I upgraded my weak rares (helm / gloves / ring). Need accuracy on helm too.


For the next league I'm working on a budget version of this, using regular wand + shield. The only required unique would be a 5/6L Voll's Protector. EBMOMZO for 100% reserve. Blasphemy Warlord's+Assassin's dual curse to solve the problem of leech and cap crit without insane gear. Other 50% reserve could be Wrath, Anger, HoI+HoT, or Discipline depending on where I'm at with damage vs defense. Definitely still wearing Kaom's Roots because getting stunned sucks. Probably gonna go back to the Surgebinders gloves to keep up the DPS in lieu of Void Battery. The only problem I can see with this as a budget build is it's going to struggle with bosses because of lower DPS, lower curse effectiveness (leech) against bosses, no insta leech, and no perma max endurance charges. The upside is that it'll have more raw HP and ES since I won't be wearing a ton of uniques.

You have EB, ZO & MoM but picked up Vaal Pact which removes your regen. You don't need it on non-crit anyway so drop that. If you are going EB you can reserve 100% of your mana so you can drop a bit of your mana reservation. What are you linking to HoT? Getting Charisma seems really inefficient, you are travelling five nodes to get there if you drop the multiplier on HoT you have 125% reservation (I'm assuming Wrath, HoT double Blasphemy) and can drop that completely. I haven't done a Call of the Brotherhood build but I assume you don't want chance to shock. If you aren't going to charima pick up Quick Recovery instead of Hired Killer one less travel node for the same life and some life regen. The spare points lets you pick up Storm Weaver as well as Celestial Judgement and Punishment. Drop Heart and Soul for Written in Blood same life, less points and ES instead of Mana.

For links I'd say Arc - Echo - Controlled Destruction - Hypothermia - Empower - Added Lightning/Faster Casting try and get a +3 staff. You could even think about going hidden potential but you might not get enough es.

Yeah I noticed the ZO/vaal pact problem after I posted. But are you sure this build won't need vaal pact? With double *more* multipliers, I will be safe from reflect?

The problem with getting a little less reservation, is that I will have literally no mana to use. It would be pretty good to have 1 or 2 casts worth of mana I think, since I am using MoM, it would leave me unable to cast at all if I take a big hit, and having no mana at all to use is going to slow me down if I am casting a lot and use up my battery.

you are right about my auras, but the HoT will be linked to culling strike and innervate, which puts my total reservation at 132(I think).

I do really like getting to celestial judgement and punishment though

I suppose I would be able to use your tree for sure if I got an alpha's howl

and question: how does storm weaver interact with lightning to cold conversion?
