ill second system shock 2, i played it a year or so ago on my laptop and it was f'ing awesome.
torchlight is also excellent if you're into diablo-type games. (its made by some of the main guys that made diablo1 and 2).
if you want a game you can really sink your teeth into try baldur's gate 2. i just started playing it yesterday actually and it was very fun. i dont know anything about Dungeons and dragons rules so i cheated when i made my character, dying in those type of games sucks. my dude is super powerful and pretty much wrecks anything and everything he comes into contact with. i play for the story\writing and this game is excellent in those areas.

Dune2000, One of the best RTS games ever created.

Second BW, Baldur's gate and other Black Isle RPG's, and D2. All great game,s all worth playing. My additions
Jedi Knight 2 and Jedi Academy - 1st/3rd person shooters where you get to be a fucking Jedi. Lightsabers, force powers, and (apart from the Doom Clone first few levels of JK2) excelent level design. Never felt like more of a badass then when I'm playing these games well.
Deus Ex- Classic shooter/RPG. If you can handle the older graphics and terrible enemy AI, you'll appreciate world class level design, a choice filled plot, and a great story.
Civ 4 - IMHO, a superior game to civ 5. Lots of mods available add to it's appeal

Definitely Minecraft!!!! If you want a free multiplayer server to play on too, pm me and I will give you the IP to a build server my friend owns.

the orange box games are not suitable for your computer TF2 and CSS run very well actually. That is bizarre to me, I have no idea how you are playing tf2 with one gig of ram. Did I misunderstand your stats? Nope.. it just uhh.. works. It takes forever to actually open the game but once it's loaded and stuff I get very usable FPS.
Strange~
ps: cave story!

Jagged Alliance 2, seriously one of the very best turn based tactic games ever released. There is a huge Modding Scene as well with some great Mods.
And by the way my favorite game of all time i guess

There's no way you can play Minecraft with 1,8ghz and 1GB ram without major lag.
You could try Rise of Nations for a fun casual single player RTS. The older Total War games could be great fun too. I think Rome and everything before would run smoothly on your computer.

This is sometihng that has been bothering me when ever I go to check the requirements for a game, all it does is list a certain Graphics card and it doesn't tell me anything, how can I see if I my card matches the one that's lsited?

Half life and half life opposing force are amazing games...also if you feel like playing something really old, i couldn't recommend more games like heretic or even Warcraft 2...if you havent played, you will probably love it...esp heretic
It's one of those really good FPSes where you have artifacts that give you abilites, secret hallways, ton of different weapons etc. I love this game
