Ranked is horribly laggy most of the time, while I've had good connections with people in socal and florida in endless, despite my rather canadian location There is a stark, stark difference though between then and now. At the start, it was well documented that the reason Ranked was so bad was because of the constant query pings basically throttling available bandwidth. For Endless that wasn't a big deal because it's closed, if it's private it's not visible to ping. Now that the netcode changes are in, Ranked will have improved by a lot to put it on par with Endless again.

I also like to condition my opponent like Pavlov's dog, then break out the new tech when he least expects it XD On April 14 2015 07:54 FakeSteve[TPR] wrote: I use a specific loop for practice: On Yun/Yang: [cl.mk xx tatsu, cl.mk xx tatsu, c.fp xx tatsu, c.fp xx tatsu, c.mk xx EX Shou FADC] ->[ cl.mk x tatsu ... etc]. All the tatsu loops links are 1f, really helps you drill this stuff. Thanks for this! Do you also get your students to practice this drill for 1f-links? Might take me some hundreds of hours to get it down consistently (hopefully not over 1000 hours if I'm lucky ![]()

![]() Got two league matches tonight, vs a Gouken that I coach, and a Juri oh, and a ft15 set vs 2P|Shippin (you may remember a Poison player who bopped Mike Ross on stream at Canada Cup - that's Jared, aka 2P|Shippin, one of our better players). this set is because.... reasons

I realllllly need to learn how to deal with focuses better. As Balrog? You don't have a lot of options without charge, but here's some stuff. If people are frequently focusing your dash punches and getting the crumple, you are being too predictable. Deal with that first. If you're consistently sitting on charge and letting it rip when the opponent reaches a certain distance, it's far too easy to read. That's the real issue, not anything to do with Balrog specifically. If people are fishing with focus in front of you, you have options. 1) walk forward The idea behind this is pretty simple - you're threatening a throw. You can throw people out of their released focus attack before it starts up, it's actually pretty easy. Otherwise if they just keep holding it, walk up to them and scoop. This will force a few different actions from the opponent: *****1a) Opponent backdashes away. This is good for you, you get space for free. *****1b) Opponent releases the focus when you're close enough. You can either attempt to throw them out of it, or you can block. lvl1 focus is ALWAYS negative on block and hit (except Chun, her lvl1 focus is negative on hit but +1 on block... go figure). lvl2 focus is ALWAYS +1 or +2 on block. If you block a lvl1 focus and they dash forward, you can challenge with jab for free. If you block a lvl2 focus and they dash forward, you have to hold their button/throw attempt. *****1c) Opponent dashes forward without releasing. This is good for you too. Resist the urge to throw a button into their focus. Most people will hold until lvl2 and then if they haven't released it, and they're too focused on applying pressure, they will dash forward. You'll have to get comfortable with the timing and spacing, but you should be able to react to their forward dash with your sweep. People won't really hold focus til lvl3 so the longer they hold it, there's less risk in putting out a button to challenge a focus. They'll probably dash out of it. 2) react with an armor-breaking move. You're Balrog, you have armor-breaking rush punches. Obviously this requires charge. 3) get the fuck out of the way. Balrog has a great backdash. If people are focusing right up in front of your grill, jab them the fuck out. Nobody's focus is fast enough to absorb Balrog's jab and then hit him with their focus before the second chained jab is active. As with anything else, if you're struggling against a particular move or mechanic, it's always more productive to look at the context surrounding that interaction, not at the interaction itself. The game's been out for a long time, if you play it with any level of seriousness you should know all the options you have. It's very likely more an issue of you being too predictable, or not noticing yourself being conditioned. Bottom line though is that focus is a really strong tool against Balrog in general. You'll have to make better decisions in these situations than your opponent, that's just kinda the way it is. Other characters that rely on long-range slow buttons for space control, or don't have a good bufferable focus breaker, have the same problem.

Probably also means I just need to TAP more, I have a bad habit of not charging it bc I love st mk / hk too much. thinking about it more, the other big instance it happens is people focusing my st hp & sweep, so I probably do just need more TAPs

Last night I played a Juri player for the league and won 7-1, also won the ranbat (currently rocking an 85% winrate in ranbat sets, 24-4 overall lol). I played a ft15 vs one of our good players... Went into it with the plan of running Cammy until I had 5 losses. He picked Elena and I got up 5-4 with Cammy. He won the next game and I switched to Sakura. By that time I had the reads I needed and I went 10-3 vs his Elena, Poison, and Ibuki to win 15-8. I discussed this set at length with him afterwards and I had to reveal some pretty serious stuff about my game to explain why he lost. It's worth it if he levels up, so I hope he figures it out. This set unfortunately wasn't recorded so I can't show you guys ![]() I can try to explain what happened in the set and what I told him about it if you guys dont mind another wall of bullshit post ![]()

Too many other games and not enough sf got me jumping too much and the not enough people I play online punish it properly. edit: omg I just watched the above video. he tells me not to jump so much and jumps three times in the first eight seconds. I see why they call you fakesteve. edit2: that reset on juri in round 3 was cute tho

I think we're all reading your posts to level up our own games as well, and the way you outlined Balrog's options was interesting and makes sense. Also probably best to get your thoughts down in writing right after the tournament ends before you forget, so the rest of us can leech off your knowledge and experience ![]() Obviously we're doing our own R&D as well, but your stuff can help us think about our own matchups from a different perspective and approach problems from a different angle. And I don't think I'm good enough yet to be offering advice at the moment. Your analyses are definitely a worthwhile read.
