I've watched some streams of everspace and it looked pretty cool and fun to play.

Defunct for $1 has me really excited, I've had that on my wishlist for a while.

Defunct is a really good game. A good game that takes a simple concept and executes it well.

Hnnn should I buy Nier:Automata, The Evil Within (1&2), Divinity Original Sin 2, Nioh, Hellblade:Senua, Prey and so many others now or wait for potentially bigger sales on Xmas? I don't expect that these games will suddenly be -75% off or anything, but maybe -10% more than they are now.

Some of these new games (came out this year) are already -50% and older ones are even up to -75% (like Mount and Blade) that I've been meaning to get and play for ages now.
Some of the good indies are also -50% hnnnn.

Nier: Automata is awesome. One of the best stories I have ever seen in a videogame with still solid and enjoyable combat.

Hellblade is also excellent, less so because of the story (which is decent) or the combat (which is solid and fun) but because the atmosphere is out of this world, especially because the audio is just so well done. It's a bit short (8h for me) but absolutely worth it. Grab headphones, turn off any potential distractions and go at it. Here is an example from the dev diaries on what exactly I mean with the audio being nothing but stellar. (Note that some of the other dev diaries are pretty spoiler heavy.)

Also on sale in a similar category as both of the above is Bayonetta for PC (10€). Story is alright and combat is absolutely top tier. It's satisfying, pretty, easy to pick up and has a damn high skill ceiling which keeps it fun for ages. Any of the VST videos on youtube are a good way to see what it can look like but here is one to give you an idea.

In a nutshell, if NieR: Automata is Platinum's masterpiece when it comes to storytelling then the first Bayonetta is their masterpiece when it comes to combat. Also the music is great for both of them. :3

e: Oh, you mentioned Nioh as well. It's like a bastard child of Dark Souls & Diablo 2. It's a bit annoying to get into because quite a lot of it is opaque and it just has so damn many things going on but it's super fun in the Dark Souls / Dwarf Fortress sense of the word. At least to me the combat is also quite a bit better than Souls and quite complex. Can recommend, but might as well wait for a sale if you're into any of the above. Note that I'm not very far in with that one but so far it looks like the D2 portion of the progression (aka gear) could mean that it's quite enjoyable for a long time. Definitely the hardest to get into out of all of these by a long shot though.

I've only played Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance by Platinum. How would you say the combat in that compares to nier and bayonetta?

I have not played Metal Gear Rising, but I would say that generally Nier and Bayonetta are quite different games. Bayonetta is a relatively short game with a mostly throw-away story. That said, it contains several action heavy set pieces that are nice to see and play through, particularly the first time around (you have to replay the game to unlock higher difficulties). Nier is a much longer game that has a good story and several difficulty levels to choose from the start. The combat is still interesting and also challening (at least on the higher difficulty levels), but I think that towards the end you become quite strong and the combat a bit repetitive.

From purely a combat perspective, I think Bayonetta is more interesting, due to stronger execution and a stronger action focuse. I liked Nier better as a game overall though. Bayonetta is the quick combat focused experience that I believe is an ideal buy for a lower price tag, whereas Nier is a more of a full-length game with story.

Bayonetta is a much better game when it comes to combat, imo Bayonetta is the better game overall, like being the best action game ever

but Nier Automata is pretty awesome too

nier automata is a real piece of art, more so if you like philosophy stuff.
the music and combat are just so very well blend together.

Bayonetta is like devil may cry series, fun and chaotic.
Nier automata is like MGS3, has a story with depth and a unique gameplay

I didn't get as much into this one as with the others simply because I enjoyed it less - I'd put it below both. Some of the set pieces are good (Bayo does this as well, NieR doesn't) but all in all... it's decent but the other two are in tiers of their own for me, albeit for different reasons.

In general I'd say the main difference is that Bayo is an upbeat, easy to learn but extremely hard to master type thing. It's just a blast to play and can end up as hard as you want it to be with multiple playthroughs which are fun because of the depth of the combat system. Meanwhile NieR has all in all a bit easier combat with a lower ceiling but with an incredibly story to back it up that is told in a rather unique way.

If you're into deep but fun combat (akin to MGR but better) that occasionally will get rough with you with a rather light & fun story on top then Bayo is a great choice.

If you're into solid, enjoyable Platinum-style combat (but not crazy challenging) and are someone who loves a strong emotional ride then NieR is a great choice. The main issue here is that despite both being some of my favorite games of all time I have a hard time linking NieR videos because they'll have spoilers for sure. :3

Anyone here has experience with DB Xenoverse 2? Is it worth it at 20€ (40€ for the deluxe edition)? Or are there several relevant characters missing that will only be available after DLCs?

I really like DB and havent played a proper DB game in a long while. I'm also doubtfull if I should buy this for the PC or wait for the time in the not so near future when I'll get a switch.

I wouldn't recommend anyone getting too seriously into it. Free is free but keep low expectations and don't push too hard if you don't like it.

What i find interesting is how people find nier a top game in terms of story. I'm not saying it's a bad game, i think it's a good game, not great. Are people saying it's a great story as a standalone game or due to the fact you also played the original nier? i'm one of the people who own it for PS4, but quite frankly don't find it my cup of tea. And the ones i do hear that do enjoy the game are the creeps who just play it to see 2BS ass. Now i'm asking this sincerely and not saying it to label everyone a creep lol, but what aspects of the game would make it a great story? that i find eluding.

i found enemies rather bland and repetitive, the robots you fight on a general basis are rather plain looking. The combat is great, extremely fun, which is a given due to it being published with square enix. The music is too melancholy and depressing for me to enjoy. curiosity of exploring the world and digging deeper in the story eluded me, so i find it hard to believe it was this masterpiece everyone is making it out to be. small parts of the lore didn't feel really fleshed out, and it wasn't cleanly written in a way that you would upon glance really get it. like for example the robot king / the baby. one of the main enemies you fought simply looked like a modern day hipster gone mad, so this wasn't a motivating factor either, though the back story to them was interesting, but not enough so.

I haven't played any of the predecessors.
I adore the music. I listen to it while working, just for fun while browsing.
I loved the combat (albeit enemies indeed are somewhat generic, there are many ways of disposing them that look and feel awesome).

After finishing the first playthrough, I had a feeling that comes close to mediocrity and a bit of disappointment that it ended already. But honestly this is where the game picks up pace. It's like changing from a Citroen 2CV to a BMW. And with your third playthrough you'll be changing from said BMW into a Tesla Roadster.

Having said that, what drives me to say this game is the best single player experience I've ever played are three things:
  • The Music, more so the use of music as a part of the narrative
  • The way of storytelling, it feels like an interactive movie at times
  • The story is far from generic although paints a quite depressing picture if you identify yourself with the main protagonists. though I don't mind that and I find the development of the individual characters as well as their relationship and interaction with the world through side quests among others quite compelling.+ Show Spoiler +
Like the androids in the desert just wanting a fix to escape reality and duty

  • The unpredictability of the game.

I think you have spotted the negative aspects of the game succinctly. The lore is confusing and I've watched several youtube videos to help me in understanding characters like Emil or some of the backstory + Show Spoiler [spoiler obviously] +
like why the humans are extinct for millennia already
that has been kinda covered in earlier iterations of the universe.
