In short, it's XCOM in a western setting. While it is divided into smaller, stand-alone chapters (and not a part of one large campaign), it is still a really fun game with some interesting twists to the XCOM gameplay. I also think that they got risk vs. reward right.

Just play the mainline games and ignore the rest until you've played through the main storyline Half life 1 -> Half life 2 -> Episode 1 -> Episode 2 After that if you want you can play through "Opposing Force" or "Blue Shift" if you want as they're kind of side-stories to half life 1, but not quite as good (imho anyway) If you want you can just buy the "Half life complete" package and get everything above in one package

Just get the base Half life 1 game, its very old but if you like it you can try opposing force also. As for Half life 2, just get the base game and episode 1 & 2. They are all amazing games, probably the best single player fps ever made, but you may be put off with Half life 1's graphics due to its age.

Ik a lot of people say it's one of the best games ever made, but in 2016 I think there are much better games to waste your time with than the half-life series.

I played through Half-life 2 last week since I had it sitting in my library for the past year and by the time I was halfway through it I was just playing it to finish it. There was no depth to killing enemies beyond putting enough bullets into them, which quickly got boring imo, not to mention the godawful vehicle sequences. For a game released in 2004 it was probably spectacular back then, but there are so many better games now. I tried Half-life 1 last year too, and got about halfway through before I realized I wasn't having fun playing it. The graphics on 1 are hopelessly outdated too. Decided to watch a speedrun of it instead. I played Episode 1&2 for the first time last year and really enjoyed them. Especially the parking lot level from Episode 1. Ravenholm is nothing compared to that. The atmosphere, engine, and physics of HL2 is what makes it one of the best games of all time, today still.

I feel you, half through this game, I got really bored of it but I really needed to finish just for the sake of the story. I did and still wasn't really enjoying it. Someone said to me that this game simply wasn't made for me and I believe him. There are some games even though a LOT of ppl enjoy it, it's entirely possible you're on the opposite side. Not saying it's a bad game (far from it actually), but if you're not having fun anymore then it's pointless to continue really (especially if went through almost half of the story just to make sure you're not missing anything, because there are games that take a while before you get a blast).

I didn't play the originals, but still thought it was beautiful, atmospheric and fun. Only thing to bear in mind is that its a much slower, less balanced kind of game than Starcraft - though I suppose everything is. Multiplayer didn't seem super fun to me either.

Now they only count the price of games that you don't already have and still give you the same discount from that. I can finally buy some expansions/dlcs for good price, yay! Thanks to that I could, by already owning Endless Space, Dungeon of the Endless and Endless Legend, get all DLC for Endless Legend for around 10€ ![]()

I checked out Dark Legacy emulated on Dolphin and it was actually really good. Forcing widescreen increases the FOV which is a much needed change, you can overclock the emulated CPU to fix all the slowdowns and fps drops, and of course there's the graphical enhancements. I wonder which would be more fun now though, Dark Legacy on Dolphin, or Gauntlet (2014) on Steam...
