That was pretty annoying. Is there a way to tell whether a to be summoned player has beat a boss or not?

When you someone gets summoned to your world as a phantom, it doesn't matter if the boss is alive or dead in their world, and the boss in your world won't just go away unless you and the phantom kill it. The phantom can't even do it without you, since phantoms can't go through fog gates until the host does. Care to give some details as to what happened? (Side note: the only time having killed a boss matters is for invasions. You can't be invaded in an area once you've killed the boss for that area, but that's it.)

I must honestly say that i have never done any summoning, so i don't know. One weird thing that happened for me was that i got invaded on a new character and afterwards a door which i had never opened before on any of my playthroughs was suddenly open (the bonfire behind the red dragon on the bridge). That was really weird.

On PC? I bought it when it came out and it was terrible, I couldn't play it properly with mouse and keyboard and never touched it again.

That was really weird. Ah, the hellkite drake doesn't count as a boss (only monsters blocked off by fog gates with named health bars are bosses. The hellkite drake flies away once you get to the bonfire (if you can survive through one of his fire blasts, you can just make a run for it and be fine), and there's a lever right next to the bonfire that opens that doorway. Phantoms can use levers; it's pretty common for summoned players to try and be helpful be opening up shortcuts in the host's world (there are shortcuts everywhere; once you know them all it's pretty easy to get to anywhere from anywhere). Edit: also, you're not even really meant to kill that dragon, so you didn't miss out on anything. It's incredibly difficult to straight-up kill, even for much higher level characters. Almost everyone either ignores it or runs by it to make it fly away. On July 19 2013 21:59 HeartOfTheSwarm wrote: And how do you play Darksouls? On PC? I've never owned or even played a console game (PC gamer master race 4 lyfe), but I bought one specifically for Dark Souls. It's 110% worth it. Yeah, it's possible to get used to the PC controls, and some people do, but it's just miserable, as you discovered. Buy a controller and try again; I promise you'll be glad you did.

No idea what caused it. It was in the area after the Undead Burg, that big ass knight guy in the castle (after the armored rhino thing). I tried him a couple of times on my own, then summoned a guy.. and the boss was just gone and the summoned guy ran straight past him. I died there, and went there again and the boss was still gone. I could still collect some item that he guarded, though. I should note that this wasn't a boss boss, so no fog gates were involved.

I didn't even try the mouse/keyboard controls as this seemed to be the kind of game that works best with a controller, like pretty much any third person melee game. I see no reason not to have a controller nowadays, a lot of games are just a lot better with one. There is no reason why everything should be best played with keyboard + mouse. I don't know a thing about controllers. I see there is Xbox 360 controller and PS3 360 controller for PC. Both seems the same to me, which one do you recommend and why? Is there maybe some other controller I should consider?

Is there maybe some other controller I should consider? Note that my experience with that is pretty limited, i got exactly one noname controller. Basically, they should all work with every game, as long as they have the same buttons, which is usually 2 thumbsticks, a dpad, 4 buttons, 2 back buttons + 2 back triggers and back + start. Go with whichever layout you like most. I think most people prefer the xbox layout due to the depressions in the thumb sticks. You also don't necessarily need to go with a MS or Sony thing, there are usually no compatibility problems with noname controllers, at least i have not yet had one in any game i played.

I'm using a PS3 controller with motioninjoy in the xbox controller emulation mode, and it works just fine. The in-game hints are all for the xbox controller, though, so that's a minor inconvenience.

There are some larger enemies which also don't respawn, but they are not bosses. Don't worry, there are enemies like that one lateron, some of which also respawn. So there is always a risk of not-respawning enemies disappearing (even though I haven't beaten them) when I do a summoning?

That knight is just a normal enemy (though that one doesn't respawn). The guy you summoned must have killed it or something, the state of his game has no impact on yours if you summon him.

Most likely your summon either killed it really quickly or the knight was chasing you and got in the way of other enemies attacks and died offscreen. If there is such a risk, it's so little chance that no one knows about it. The only random glitch like that I know of is the "phantom is summoned as wrong type" glitch, which has only happened to me once in 800+ hrs of play (guy was trying to invade people as red phantom, got summoned as white phantom to help me kill Ornstein and Smough instead).

Hmm, alright. I would say that the guy couldn't have killed the knight that quickly. I summoned him, and he ran straight past where the knight should be. So either he killed him in a matter of seconds, or there was some glitch. Oh well, better luck next time.
