Don't use hyperbole to make a point in a thread that's about giving advice to other people. It defeats the purpose of the thread. It's hard to call a games production value and polish good if the voice actors are terrible, since that's generally a pretty good pointer that a game has shit production value.
Personally I agree that it's a hyperbole to call Dust trash... but I can't really bring myself to call it mediocre. I love metroidvania games, especially 2D ones, so I would consider myself a player Dust would target, but I found it very boring, the combat was simply far too easy and simplistic and the map felt.... plain.
It honestly felt like the game targeted kids, and I mean beyond the obvious tells with the graphics and art style.

Bad voice acting can be more than mildly irritating, but I can't imagine that voice acting takes precedence over visuals, music, and execution of the mechanics.
I didn't get hooked by it either, but the game works and looks quite well on a fundamental level. If it is not broken in some way and has flaws that render it pointless or unplayable, there's a decent likelihood that things like the setting and combat might appeal to people with slightly different priorities/preferences.
Your criticism of it is fair and informative, it's randomly calling decently executed games trash that really isn't.

I was gifted Dust and played a fair bit of it--I'm beginning Chapter 2 now. It's a fairly casual game, even on Hardcore difficulty. I think the combat is pretty fun, though I think it'd definitely be better when playing with a controller rather than keyboard. Then again, I'm a pretty big fan of hack and slash.
The environments are really pretty, and the dialogue/story is OK thusfar, though the voice acting is bad.
In terms of overall quality, I feel that (so far), it's a good game. Pretty gripping, but I can see how some people wouldn't like it. For a more unanimously quality game--play Bastion!

i make no apologies for dust being a piece of shit. if you care if I praise your preferences play better games.
the combat system looks fucking beast at first and then goes nowhere. you're doing the same thing hours in as you're doing in the first 20 minutes and it won't sustain any intelligent person's interest because there are only a handful of easily executed combos with obvious applications.
the backgrounds and dust's animations are appealing but everything else is some sort of horrible furry nightmare. there's no thematic tie-in between the visual, creative and gameplay elements. the childlike feel comes from the sense that a teen of mediocre talent had all this shit in his notebook. This teen likes anime and furries, which are both fine, i guess, but do nothing for the game.
The dialogue isn't literally the worst I've ever experienced but it's up there. I learned new ways to write badly from this game, like having characters chide each other every few lines over their allegedly excited but actually tepid reactions to uninteresting circumstances, as if the slightest shred of human emotion were a fucking crime. That shows them bonding, or something.
Only dust's voice over is acceptable. Everyone else, without exception, is fucking obnoxious. Your floating assistant will piss you off. I hate her and her stupid shitty jokes.
The game is full of sidequests you don't care about because the rewards have no relevance to how combat actually plays out and you have to talk to these miserable characters. the dialogue goes on absolutely forever, I can't stress how annoying it is to even see it flash by as you skip it. They're not exactly inspired, either, like there's one quest where you have to get five imp's nuts or something, let the imps keep their nuts, I don't give a fuck. Theoretically the experience is stuffed but you're never given anything to care about about mechanically or in terms of story so in practice there's nothing to do. The game is a test of how long you're willing to do the same thing over and over without thinking about whether you actually want to.

Have Skyrim been the exclusive daily deal yet? I want to buy the DLC, but it will probably be cheaper when it's the daily deal.

The legendary one was chosen for flash sale and had a daily too I believe.

It was a community choice yesterday and day1 daily deal idd. So you might have to wait till the last day for it to return. The DLC's all get a bigger discount as well(not sure about Dragonborn though)

Was thinking about picking up some random puzzle games while sale is going on to waste some time after foot surgery, so far found puzzle quest 2 and super puzzle platformer delux, any comments on either?

Maybe I've played too much Ocarina of Time but I love the "stupid jokes" Fidget brings to the table. On a plain emotional level this game is one of the few that present you with a "try as hard as you can but still fail" scenario here and there.
It's beautiful, it's cute, it has its emotional moments, the gameplay just as the flow of the game is incredibly smooth and, while maybe repetitive, still fun as hell. Some of the references you can unlock are SO OUT OF PLACE that they're fun as fuck again. Hell, I even liked the voice acting.
One of my favorite games this year. =)

I don't understand how people can think Dust is a game aimed at kids when there is basically a genocide going on in the story. Just because the characters are cartoon animals doesn't make the game for kids. Its like everyone completely forgot the existence of all the PS1/PS2 era platformers.

It feels like many nowadays, including me, are a bit spoiled, or rather have way too high a standard as to what is a good game.
Remember this game where you had four buttons: forward, jump, crouch and run faster. It was called Super Mario. You do the same thing, over and over and over and over again and the game was the best game anybody had played at that time. Thus, I don't feel like the argument "you do the same thing hours in as you did the first 20 minutes" is a good argument. Rather point out the flaws in terms of challenge. Super Mario was challenging as hell, yet simple in mechanics.

if mario was nothing but the same level over and over you'd feel retarded if you went all the way through it. in fact, you probably would be retarded stand stomping the same two goombas across eight identical worlds. Do you think you'd be telling your friends "people say this new 'mario' game doesn't develop it's mechanics enough, but back in the day we played pong and you only had two buttons: up and down. and that satisfied us, because pong is hard as hell."
dust has combos, that's supposed to be the interesting part. mario has platforming, that's supposed to be the interesting part. one of these games is a waste of time, the other is still fun because it explores it's specialty well and introduces variations on the basic pattern.

puzzle quest is very fun. you have to be into the random element though because the RNG can be quite punishing.

Of course, raising your standards is great. It puts preassure on the devs and results in better games. But raise it too high and a perfectly decent game for €6.99 becomes utter garbage in the eyes of the spoiled.
